A difference between generic retinoids?

Hi Skin Friends,
I am going to my derm appointment on Tuesday, and after reviewing my insurance, it looks like the only choice in my budget is generic Tretinoin. After reading all the posts and links here, it seems there may be a difference in generics of Tretinoin. Are there different generics of tretinoin gel in the same strength? Is there just one "generic "if I buy from my pharmacy here in the US? Adapalene and Tazarotene are off the list, it just says generic tretinoin.

Re: A difference between generic retinoids?

Generics can all have different base ingredients. It really depends on the pharmaceutical manufacturer and what they choose to put in it.

You could ask the pharmacist for a list of ingredients, before committing to purchase.

Otherwise, you are left just trying out the generic, in question, and seeing how the overall formulation reacts with your skin.

Re: A difference between generic retinoids?

i work in a pharmacy and we have never had complaints about the generic of retinoids. they are made by fda approved labs and all seem to have the same consistancy of the brands. they have to be approved as a generic and have to have the same active ingredients. they are all tested before release to the public. don't be afraid to try the generic. i promise you it is as strong and as potent as the brand name.
