Another Acne Myth

There are many myths out there about acne. But this one i am about to share, i heard it for the first time. My co-worker said acne in some women is cause by pregnancy. I have never heard this myth before that day.
She said some women would start having acne problem during pregnancy and after child birth, it sticks around.

Re: Another Acne Myth

Actually that is possible. Pregnancy causes your hormones to go out of whack and anytime that happens, acne can be triggered. It's the same thing with going through puberty.

Acne is caused by hormonal changes within the body And pregnancy and post pregnancy period are times when your body hormones are highly active this causes the skin to erupt and cause acne and blemishes.

Re: Another Acne Myth

Definately not a myth for most. Some women respond to the heightened levels of hormones well and find that their skin becomes beautiful. Some women on the other hand, wake up with mild to severe adult acne. Every woman reacts in her own special way, but thats because we're humans and we're weird that way. More often than not, the acne begins fading a few weeks after birth, for a smaller percentage of women, the acne lasts until they stop breastfeeding, and rarely, for some women it lasts for a few years. Don't worry though, it will eventually go away if you have a skin care regimen in place that works with your skin.

That's probably why the pill causes the reverse and actually helps with acne

Re: Another Acne Myth

Actually, eating chocolate will cause acne. The caffeine and high sugar level in chocolate will cause acne.

But chocolate, on it's own, does not directly implicate to acne. Nonetheless, chocolate is still one of the "food to avoid".

Re: Another Acne Myth

No, you don't need to avoid chocolate. Study after study has disproven that theory. The whole chocolate is bad for your skin came from a time period when people thought that chocolate was bad for you and, just like masturbation, moms told you bad stuff would happen if you ate (or in the case of JO- Did) it.

Re: Another Acne Myth

Nope, also a myth. Almost every college student would have horrible acne if that were the case, lol.

Re: Another Acne Myth

The reason why I say chocolate can "eventually" cause acne is because it's part of the diet. High sugar level food like chocolate with high caffeine would eventually increase your stress hormones.

Chocolate itself is not directly implicated to acne. But the high sugar level and caffeine could cause hormonal imbalance.

Re: Another Acne Myth

It would take a LOT of chocolate to change your body that significantly. Some of the main studies involved eating the equivalent of 10 bars of chocolate or more per day. If someone is eating this much chocolate, or worse more, then they are going to have issues bigger than acne.
