I would recommend seeing a dermatologist and not just your regular physician. They can give you better advice and find out exactly what is going on with your skin. You should check if the visit will be covered by your insurance.

Definitely consult a dermatologist for a professional opinion. Some cleansers and toners can be really abrasive and may cause more harm than good. There's also an oral medication for acne you should ask about.

My dermatologist actually tells her patients not to use any toners. Saying they do more bad than good.

i dont think toners are bad if you use a good one. i have bad acne and went to my derm and he gave me Retin A. i found it a bit irritating and it made my skin peel at first but eventually it was ok and it worked some what. what really worked well was murad acne line. i didnt like the face wash for oily skin caused it dried me out. and the exfoliating gel was to expensive for what was really it in it ( glycolic acid 3%, Salicylic acid 2%, Hydrogen peroxide 3%. all of which i can buy in my local drug store for less) so i just use a regular 10% glycolic acid toner which cost much less and does a better job of exfoliating. but what i love the most murad's acne line is the acne point treatment and its got no BP. its full of actives that actually help to stop inflammation which is what causes the red bumps and white puss. as for black heads on the nose, you can try those biore strips or even try making your own (i will find the homemade recipe). my skin is pretty clear now. i switched up the cleanser with Olay Facial cloths which i love to death. and i use a Blue and Red Light therapy with tea tree oil to fight the bacteria that causes acne instead of BP. all this really helps me but you should talk to your doctor first. the acne solution for you doesnt always have to be a prescripition drug. but i dont believe toners are bad for acne. maybe its not for everyone and there are some toners that are just bad period but a good toner can do do wonders. a while back all i had was just my glycolic toner and just a regular body soap to wash my face.i thought i was doomed cause as soon as i start washing with regular soaps my skin gets dry and irriated and i just break out. my glycolic acid toner, alone(not even a moisturizer), kept me from breaking out which was a meracle and my face was also soft and smooth. I think you're right about toners - if you find the right one, they're great. I personally love my toner. I use (and sell) Mary Kay products...and I became a consultant because I loved their stuff so much. When my clients with oily skin get "too dried out" from products made-for-oily-skin, I tell them to mix-and-match: use a cleanser made for oily skin and then the moisturizer for normal skin...or vice-versa...instead of the entire line of oily skin products...which will FOR SURE dry out your skin. Good luck!!! |

My teeneager has had the same problem for years. I found that what has helped is Glycolic Acid. But you have to be very very careful with that. He uses a glycolic wash and a glycolic toner only at night. Although, he's had trouble clearing it up it does seem to lessen the breakouts and tone down the redness. |

HONEB-- what is that you mentioned about red and blue light therapy? i have had that before but it was only temporary, an experiment to compare the red with the blue, and only in the derms office since it is a large machine. could you elaborate on that?

there are some, i guess you can call it, cheap at home lamp that have a combination of red and blue lights. i cant remember the sight where i bought my lamp but this is what i kinda looks like.Acne Treatment - BeautySkin Blue Light Therapy - Electronic Healing UK the blue light kills the bacteria that calls acne. i live in calgary and our water teatment process uses lights to kill bateria as well. its just so cool. the red helps with circulation, is anti-infammitory and helps with skin renewal. i bought my lamp from a canadian supplier but i cant find the sight and i dont remember the name. i also bought my oxygen therapy generator and my sun light simulating lamp from these guys. so maybe someone can google and see if they find the sight. i dont use the lamp very often. frankly its kinda boring to sit infront of it for 15 minutes. If your acne persists, then ask your dermatologist about Accutane. Although that stuff is hardcore, it WILL remove your acne.

Have you ever tried Spironolatone? I take a very low dose and it keeps my skin pretty clear...

I've never heard of it used for that - hmmm... I know it is used for various other things but also has been very effective in treating acne in women. Maybe do some research on the Internet first if you're interested in talking to your determotologist about it... I've definitely found it effective.

The Benzoyl Peroxide could be making your problem worst. I wrote an article about it in my blog below.

I don't understand why Accutane didn't work for you; it has worked for most people I know with really bad acne. Maybe your problem is that you don't actually have acne--it could be rosacea, allergic reaction, or a similiar skin condition. Ask a dermatologist about using Murad for your problem--that could work. |

From my point of view and the others, seeing a dermatologist is very good but it may be costly and we're talking about hormonal imbalance here! Hormonal Imbalance is not lacking but too much of hormones.. Drinking lots of water cleanse your system, pimples are caused because of, heat and oil. Try drinking lots of water, going to the toilet and sleep well, make-up can also cause much pimples..
