Anything compare to Proactive?

I just wanted to know if anyone has tried the brands in the stores that compare
themselves to Proactiv? I've thought of ordering Proactiv, but I'd rather avoid the hassle if I can buy something just as good in the store. I see there is a 3 step acne skin care regimen made by Neutragena that says it's better than Proactiv, just wondering if anyone's had any luck with these?
Thanks!

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

compare the ingredients. Proactiv isnt really anything special... it uses benzoyl peroxide just like most acne products. They just market the hell out of their brand so everyone thinks its the greatest.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I agree that Proactiv is not that great. I got suckered into signing up for their monthly package :-( when all I wanted was to try their facial scrub. Plus the products are so strong-they make your skin more sensitive to ultra violet rays. It even says to have you wear sunscreen. That freaked me out. Anyway, Proactiv didn't work for my acute acne. I went back to the over the counter stuff. I am currently using this new product line called Be Fine Food Skin Care and so far my face cleared up a lot. Not 100%, but it gets the job done. No harsh synthetic chemicals, all made from food. It is allergen free, paraben free and not tested on animals. The only thing I liked from Proactiv is their Toner and I am using Be Fine's Toner with ginger as their active ingredient and that is the closest to Proactiv.

Hi there, I have had wonderful results with a product line called BioStrat. I tell my clients that it is the Spa quality version of ProActive.
Glycolic Acid is derived from Sugar Cane. It is the best penetrating acid by far. I hope you have not purchased PA. If you have, finish it up and search out BioStrat. You could call the comapny to find a distrinutor near you. Visit my website for more details. I am a liscenced estetician and host a site called professionalskincaretips.com. There you can find the answers to all of your skin care questions.

Good Luck!

pimple prevention

use products that contain tea tree oil and hydrocortisone. Tea Tree oil kills the bacteria and hydrocortisone is a small percentage of a steriod that reduces the inflammation.

Proactiv is a bad choice, i'd choose acnezine as it seems to clear acne the fastest

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I've tried a lot of acne product lines from drug store brands to name brands. Here's the list: lancomb, shiseido, murad, proactiv, juice beauty, philosophy, clearasil, clean and clear, natural advantage, neutrogena, oil of olay, noxema, etc.
The ones that I've had good results from were juice beauty(organic) and philosophy. It's all trial and error, some products work for some people and doesn't work for others. gotta keep trying until you find something that works for you. good luck!

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

My girlfriend bought me an adult acne kit - that actually has anti-aging properties to boot. I have been using it for a month now and have to say I have noticed a reduction in the redness and even the markings that I developed as a teen seem to be fading.

According to her she heard about the acne treatment in a fashion magazine, it is by Clear Clinical, the only hitch is it's only available in Toronto at Dr. Kellett's clinic...DLK on Avenue.

Proactive sucks - try Clenziderm

Obagi Clenziderm is waaaay better, my skin is clear after having trouble since I was 13!. I have been using it for a while it usually costs $118.00 dollars, last for 3 months ( 4 if you use it sparingly).

Proactiv does not work for everyone. Experimentation is the key in finding something that works well for you.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I definitely advise you to stay away from Proactiv. It seems to work well for a month or so, but it's too harsh and ends up stripping the acid barrier and that invites bacteria into your skin. I've heard Obagi is an excellent product; however, I think it's too aggressive to use for an extended period. In my opinion, two of the best acne care systems are SkinCeuticals Acne Care System and NeoStrata's as well. Both will keep the skin vibrant and healthy and exfoliated without peeling and redness.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I know of a product that has worked great for me. I have tried many other kidns but they all seemed to be harsh to my skin and dry it out. This product is all natural and i like it a lot. It is called the three step acne care system.

Hope this helps!

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I am not a fan of ProActive. I gave it a few months but it just wasn't for me, but that is not to say that it won't work for someone else.

I know this is going to sound crazy but my acne miracle was organic Tea Tree oil and organic Jojoba oil. I would use a glycolic cleanser then apply the tea tree followed by the jojoba. If I needed a little extra moisturizer I would use Cetaphil oil-free. Also one of the most helpful things I did was have an esti teach me how to do extractions safely on myself at home.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

hey everyone!! Im new to this blog. anyway, i used proactiv a long time ago when it 1st came out and it way more expensive, it worked 4 abt a month, then all downhill from there. it dried the heck out of my skin.. ooh and it burned!! if i were you, i'd try sensiclear. for me, so far it helping to clear up my face pretty good. no benzoyl peroxidde means no dry, burned skin. Does neone know of a good moisturizer though? Im looking for sumthin thats not oily or heavy since my skin is majorly oily.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

Look for the same active ingredients:

The cleanser just washes your face.

The toner's active ingredient is salicylic acid (that's aspirin, believe it or not).

The mask's active ingredient is sulphur.

The repairing lotion's active ingredient is a 2.5% concentration of benzoyl peroxide.

Every one of these is available at your average discount department store. You just have to read the labels.

Re: Anything compare to Proactive?

I was not pleased with Proactive either. I now use L'Bri Pure n' Natural and it is wonderful. I stumbled upon it online and tried the free samples and was very pleased. I have been using the products for a little over a month and my skin is improving every day. They are a Direct Selling company and I joined just for the discount. My daughter who is 17 and has oily acne prone skin has been seeing good results too. Her skin is taking longer to clear up but I think her skin will take longer then mine. L'Bri has a great moisturizer for oily skin and just love it.
