Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Thanks mony for the info on rosehips! I always wondered where the rose hips were at on roses. I used to order rose hips scented in essential oils for my shop. (just for decorating and scent)

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Rosehips are very common here, especially rosa canina are full of them in autumn and it grows wild. Along roads there's are mass plantings of rosa rugosa which forms an abundance of hips. The thought never occurred to me that hip forming roses might not be that common everywhere, most hybrids grown in the garden don't form hips.

Rose hip seed oil on the other hand is not that common, and what I buy seems to be made in south America.

You are welcome,I find it really easy to make my own and have found that it does seem to help my skin my skin seems a little more elastic if that makes sense, but that could be because of the combinations of things that I do.

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Although I can"t prepare rosehip oil I can buy a rose and use its petal, cut into strips and soak them into any of my base oil ( virgin coconut oil or olive oil). Usually before I use my spf cream, i will layer my face with mixture of hyaluronic acid and base oil. I tell u your face look fresh and glowing too. As a carrier, hyaluronic acid shall assist the best virgin coconut oil deeper into your skin and produce such an effect. First time when I use them I received many compliments from my colleques. They were surprised with such a dramatic change. I use Xtend day, night, and eye cream only at night. In the day , I prefer using mixture of VIT C and hyaluronic acid , and mixture of oil. I cannot forgo them. I love my change ! Hopefully when u introduce xtend life cream , never let go your rosehip oil . That is my sincere advise. Best of luck to u in striving for a better skin.

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

I love using rosehip seed oil too. It is non-greasy for my oily skin and help lessen the appearance of my facial redness. I can definitely notice the difference when not using rosehip seed oil. It is an absolutely must-have for me!

What more to buy in bulk and prepare rosehip seed oil.
I would give up roses to live in a tropical climate that has some humidity. The air in California is so dry it sucks the life right out of your skin.

Rose hip seed oil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Rosehip seed oil)
Rose hip seed oil is a pressed seed oil, extracted from the seeds of a rose bush (Rosa moschata or Rosa rubiginosa) which grows wild in the southern Andes. It is unique among vegetable oils in containing retinol (Vitamin A), and is also high in vitamin C. Rose hip seed oil is high in the essential fatty acids - linoleic acid or omega-6, and linolenic acid or omega-3. It is commonly used in skin care products.[1] It is used for a variety of skin conditions, including dermatitis, acne and eczema, for mature and sun burnt skin as well as brittle nails and wrinkles.[2] Rose hip oil is also frequently used to heal scarring and diminish photo-aging.[3]
Most rose hip seed oil is produced in Chile and Argentina.

I was under the impression that by using rosehip seed oil I was benefiting both from the retinol and the vitamin c it contains, but after reading the threads here I am wondering if it would be better for me to switch to some other retin a and c serum products?

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks,

I guess it depends on your age. I've been using rosehip oil for the last few years too and I really like it! It's a great oil with natural vitamin A & C. I also take rosehips internally for the vitamin C. I really believe natural products are more beneficial than the synthetic alternatives.
I just turned 30 in Jan. and i've decided to add retin-a to my skincare regimen in addition to the rosehip oil. I know I'm not that old yet but I feel 30 is a good age to start retin-a to prevent wrinkles from forming..or at least stalling them for awhile.
I wouldn't recommend giving up rosehip oil but adding retin-a is a great idea!

Smile Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Mony have just found this post and am seriously interested in making my own rosehip oil. I only have a few roses but they produce loads of hips every year that I just cut off and discard. Can any type of rosehip be used from any type of rose, and how long will it keep when made? Should I keep it in the fridge or is it ok in the bathroom cabinet?

Thanks everyone for such a great sight, you all seem sooo clever!!

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

According to everything I've read yes, any rose that produces a big hip can be used. I made some last fall, I keep it in a dark cool place, along with my home made vanilla.

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

instead of warming it on the stove, which may harm some of the natural actives, you might try placing your rosehips in your oil, then putting it in a sunny windowsill or even outside for several weeks. this does take more time, but for me works well, and i know i haven't damaged the beneficial oil.

I am so sorry for you. Living near the equator is hot throughout the year round with the sun directly under your head but the air is humid. We have moisture skin due to that but the temperature is uncomfortable to live with. I yearn to live in a country with a mediterranean type of climate ....cool with gentle sun. Despite that , our daily activities are smooth without hindrance. So most of us would love window shopping with the unnatural cool air of air-conditioner.

Don't get me wrong, I do love LA, and I really wouldn't consider moving, but I've also loved all the tropical places I've been (Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Honduras, Mexico). Unfortunately, in the summer here it can get up to 110 degrees and <20% humidity, and we continually have a problem with drought.

more than 20% humidity? You'd drown in the air! I guess you wouldn't be able to dry clothes on a line. At least you can get to the beach quickly.

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Rose Hip Oil
Facts:
Extracted from the seeds of the rosa aff. rubiginosa, also known as the rosehip/wildrose (Rosa Aff. Rubiginosa)
Contains sufficient amounts of essential fatty acids which helps maintain good health of skin and body
* Highly unsaturated, drying oil
* Helps heal surgical scars, burns and eczema
* Helps to reduce wrinkles and slow aging skin

there are many benefits of rosehip seed oil... dont give up on those simple yet powerful stuff.... if you want anti aging products, you might want to use BASQNYC Cucumber Tea EYe Gel and LifeCell Skin cream, these are my special buddies and cant really live without them...found them at eye cream reviews

You can also make tea from the actual rose hips. It is very high in vitamin c.

I meant less than, > is more than, < is less than. I just checked the weather on the web, and it's 16% right now, and 79 degrees. Beautiful day though.

I actually wasn't sure weather you meant less or more. I picked That's probably why I've never won the lottery because I can't pick.

Re: Rosehip Seed Oil

Sorry I am completely lost are we talking about rosehip seed carrier oil or Rosehip EO? I'm considering to use this oil under my moisturiser and SS or maybe I might skip the moisturiser out completely and just use SS is this advisable? Thanks
