| | Rosehip Seed Oil
Hi Everyone.
I've been using rosehip seed oil for a few years now and found it to be very beneficial. However I am not nearly as well informed as many, if not all, of you on this forum are and I am hoping you can help clarify something for me.
I was under the impression that by using rosehip seed oil I was benefiting both from the retinol and the vitamin c it contains, but after reading the threads here I am wondering if it would be better for me to switch to some other retin a and c serum products?
Any thoughts much appreciated.
Thanks,
Flynn

Yes, rosehip seed oil has some natural retinol and C properties, but you would get a more dramatic result from the real thing, if you can tolerate it. Some can't or want to use only organic products so rosehip seed oil is just the thing for them.

Thank you Fawnie. Much appreciate it.
I noticed that there is a "Thanks Given" counter on under our account profile box on the right. I haven't come across how do I do this, or have missed it.
Just want to express my gratitude. |

thanks for this info!!!!!!!
i finally have scrounged enough extra cash together to buy myself some some luxurious grape-seed oil and rose hip seed oil and i love them both!
i hear rose hip seed oil is great for fading acne scars. grape seed oil is great for ones with oily skin, and i agree with that. Grape seed oil absorbs into the skin very fast, its an extremely light oil also. its feels really nurturing without anything extra. i found that i have replaced all my face moisturizers with a rosehip seed oil/grape seed mixter =D
so what brings me to this..
can i had aha or bha to this oil as an active ingredient?
the thanks button is on the posters bottom left interface :P

Flynn,
Like you, I used rosehip seed oil and it is a lovely oil - it is good for scars as well. But since joining this forum, I have switched to the 'real' thing - RAM and Vit C serum, and my skin loves the change. Sometimes, I will still use my rosehip oil if I feel I need the nourishment.

Rosehip oil has many properties retin A and acorbic acid don't have, and is well worth adding to a cream almost whatever other ingredients you want to use. It can make a big difference together with other ingredients like, hyaluronic acid, anti oxidants and other plant extracts.
Pomegranate oil is great to, like rosehip oil has some promising research behind it, but horribly expensive.

I love my rose hip seed oil and wouldn't switch it for the world! I made my own for pennies. It really feels great not oily and it does penetrate the skin failry quickly.

mony - can you tell us how you "made your own" rosehip oil? Am considering using this myself. Does it help fade sun-damage induced hyperpigmentation? I DON'T want to use hydroquinone. Thanks!

Hi guys,
I am about to start using xtend-life whitening day cream, eye cream and night cream, but i'm an avid user of rosehip oil and sunscreen. i was wondering if i could still use the rose oil under day and night cream and use my sunscreen ontop of the day cream?!?!? I am always wary of putting on layers of cream as my skin is quite prone to breakouts.
Please help!

The rosehip oil under the cream is fine. Sometimes I will use a moisturizer then layer my sunscreen over that. Sometimes I will just use my sunscreen and omit my moisturizer. Just depends on how dry my skin is feeling.
Try it and see how you do with it. If it is too much then cut back on one or the other.

| | Re: Rosehip Seed Oil To make Rosehip Oil
You start with extra virgin olive oil, then add a cup of clean ( non sprayed roses- no pesticides plse) cutting off both ends of the rose hip and disregard them. Split the rose hips add them to the about 1/2 a cup of the olive oil. Now you have to have that on the lowest setting possible for aprox 8 hrs on the stove, stirring it around occasionally. your Rose hip oil needs to be strained, disregard the rose hips and voila you have bonafied Rosehip oil with no additives!

It's very interesting to read about your rose hip oil infusion Mony. I would rather call it that, rather than rose hip oil. It's very easily confused with the oil pressed of rose hip seeds, which is the oil referred to in research done on healing of scars, skin burns, reversal of sun damage, wrinkles etc. I wonder if there is an extract of rose hip available as a skin care ingredient? I have some rose hip powder I perhaps could try in your recipe in stead of self picked rose hips.

| | Re: Rosehip Seed Oil Rose hip the fruit of the rose; has red to orangey edible outer skin containing seeds. It's from the seeds rose oil is pressed. Colour and shape of the hip varies within species of roses from round to oval and even pear shaped.
Mony makes an oil infusion seeping the entire hip in olive oil, and it's very different from rose hip seed oil.

The rose hip is the frit that appears after the rose blooms, looks like a little fruit and so full of Vitamine C and antioxdants, it's not funny! The trick to the "infusion" as I was corrected is to make sure the oil is kept warm, DO NOT LET IT BOIL or GET TOO HOT, you do not want to deep fry the rosehips, you may squish them down with a potato masher or whatever to help release the antioxadants as the solution is warming on the stove.
Hey I think this stuff is great... Try it- see what you think, at least it's all natural!

| Wow! a cup of rose hips will cost a bom here! Lucky you! It is easier to source organic /wild planted roses there! I rather buy directly from Ebay . It is much cheaper. Roses in Malaysia are planted only on Cameron Highlands and they are commercialised roses for function only. It is luxury to purchase roses for functions. What more to buy in bulk and prepare rosehip seed oil.

That is a shame, I Love my rosebushes, I have a tendency to collect them. My mother does as well, she has a " rose bush fence" tons of varied rugosa's, smells great all summer, then we pick the rose hips in the fall.
