Hi rayoflight! Thanks for the tip, but I already tried just using water only, no glycerin, and same deal. In my case, the serum just messed up whatever else I put on top, even with waiting a whole half-hour after application. Not worth it unless there's something I really don't know.

Thats weird. For me it was glycerin that messed up everything.
I assume you used L-ascorbic acid? Or something else?

Cara4skin
I agree, glycerin is not a nice thing in a C serum.
This recipe will be a lot better for you, I promise: http://www.skincaretalk.com/diy-skin...t-sources.html
It made my skin *feel and look* smooth and glowy right away - it keeps getting better too.

Thanks - that sounds like an awesome recipe, but I don't have confidence in doing anything that complicated, and having to special-order stuff. I did use just L-ascorbic acid powder that I got at a local natural foods store. Are these other ingredients very expensive? If I did get into this I'd like to try just a sample first that's already made to see if it even agrees with my skin. How long does that batch last, and about how much does it cost to make it?
Elsewhere, I HAVE seen recipes that included the glycerin and raves for it, that's why I did it. But as you see, it was a definite no-go for me. And yes, it WAS pure L-ascorbic acid powder, nothing else that went into my plain C+water serum.

I've only been using RA and Vit. C serum (home made) for just about 3 1/2 months, but I've only seen improvements in my skin. Between the peels and the RA afterwards, my fine lines have diminished markedly. It's only getting better. Some days I'm flaky from .05% RA, but it only lasts a day or so. I use my microfiber cloth to exfoliate. I don't get any redness on my face from RA so far. Vit C serum makes my skin glowing and fresh and tight!

Hi sandia! Are you in New Mexico by any chance! I lived there for 12 years(my skin did get damaged from the high altitude sun, despite wearing sunblock) Sandia mountains...
However, it sounds like you are doing a LOT for your skin, so it's likely that the combo rather than the Vit. C alone(although I'm sure it's somewhat beneficial)that's doing it for you. Sounds like you've got a good thing going on. In about a week and half, I'm going to a skin spa for some guidance and maybe a light facial or peel, since I have a discount coupon, and some guidance.
You see, I'm just tiptoeing an eensy bit into skincare, as I got massively scared off by a chemical burn a year and a half ago and had to go extremely simple not even any sunblock as my skin was so sensitized. Before that incident, I didn't have trouble with sunblocks. Recently I tried one, and it irritated my face after only one application - sigh. I'm going to really appreciate some professional guidance by one who can see and assess my temperatmental skin. It wasn't like this until I was about 40, well before menopause. I'm 62 now.
