Retin A initial purge...

I don't have acne...so Im really scared of whats going to happen after I start my retin a....though I know it'll get better. Is there anything you can do to help lessen an inital breakout period when first starting retin a?

Lizard, if you don't have acne you may not have a breakout period. I didn't. Just expect a lot of peeling and probably some redness at first. There are ways to minimize this so that you don't have to face the world with flakes.

I've used the Retin-A .05% cream for only one night and my skin is peeling and my pores are purging. Trying to resist helping them out. Is there anything I can use besides my micro fiber cloth to clean them out?
This is night #3 and I am going to apply the Retin-A for the 2nd time.

Sounds like I should have purchased the 0.025% .. Are you on gel or cream?

Also what masks can we use while on Retin-A?

Thanks!

Yes I am acne prone. My makeup covers it well. However- I usually have a new breakout every day or other day.

My clogged pores appear to be purging.. cleaning themselves out-

My forehead is broken out from imflammed pores I presume.
The Retin-A is helping dry out the exsisting breakouts on my forehead but a couple more have appeared. *sigh*

Re: Retin A initial purge...

oh bummer...its sure to get better though. I have never seen a product before with so so so so so many people saying the same thing. it gets worse before it gets better...but when its better its Really better. Some of the few bad reviews I saw were from people who sounded like they couldn't push through the first 3 months of crappiness. I hope I don't end up one of those people. Crossing my fingers for no purge.

I have been using retin a for several months now and never purged. I was expecting it after reading about it but never really happened for me. I guess it all depends your skin type and/or if you are prone to acne.

I didn't have any purging when I started retin A. Flaking and redness, but no pimples. Good luck.

Re: Retin A initial purge...

I used to have a lot of acne, but skin has been clear for a few years until..... retinA!!! grrr.....

Hehe, I have been using it a few weeks and yes I do have a tremendous case of purging on my chin. It's very depressing, but I trust this will eventually go away!!!
