Oily skin suggestions

I work as an IT person so I am always touching other peoples dirty keyboards & mouses. I have very oily skin on my face. I always seem to touch my face. Anyone have any suggestions for some good face washes & body washes for oily skin? I diet fairly well, I drink nothing but water.

Oily Skin Suggestion

Hi damadhatter

Myself and my partner have just launched our new skin care & cosmetics web site The Soap Store UK

Before this I worked as a postman and had lots of problems problems with my skin especially on my face even though I was concious about not rubbing my eyes and things like that all shift.

I soon realised that diet is extremely important for a good skin condition. Foods rich in vitamins C, E and A are essential.

I too have a problem with oily skin and found that a light moisturiser that was quite watery helped me as my skin already had a lot of moisture in it.

We don't sell moisturisers though just handmade soap

I find superdrug quite cheap

Cheers

Perhaps, the natural ways to keep you free from oily skin are ; drink lot of water, wash your face atleast 10 times a day, avoid eating oily food, eat green vegetables as much as possible etc. After using the keyboard, wash your hands nicely. These are the best ways to prevent yourself from it.

Wash your face at least 10 times a day? You have to be kidding, washing your face that much is simply stupid. You're strip your skin of the essential oils after the third wash and your body will try to make up for it with even more oil. Imagine how raw and red your face would be after washing it even the fourth time in a day.

Goes to show, don't believe everything you read on internet forums.

This might sound weird but I got this off of these boards. Milk of Magnesia. I have oily skin and this worked wonders for me. Sometimes I used it as a mask, rinsed it off, then applied makeup. Usually, I applied a THIN layer, let it dry, then applied makeup over it. I've used a few other products-some expensive(PTR max anti-shine--worked great for a while) and cheap(Monistat Chafing Gel-didn't absorb oil) and the Milk of Magnesia was the cheapest and it worked the best. I believe M.O.M is recommended in one of the Paula Begoun books.
Stay away from any kind of skin cleansers or moisturizers that offer extra moisturizer. Use oil-free products. You do not need to be adding extra moisture to your already oily face.
Blotting your face regularly during the day with blotting paper will keep the oil from your T zone down to a minimum. While blotting does not prevent the oil, it lessens the shine.
Avoid greasy foods like burgers, fried foods and chocolate as they will tend to affect your complexion. Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water a day to keep yourself hydrated.
Toners applied after washing the face are great ways to control the production of oil. However, you will want to be certain that the toner does not contain alcohol, as that will only serve to dry out the skin, which, in turn, causes an increase in oil production. Look for a toner that has something more natural like witch hazel as its main ingredient.

Wash your face as many times as you can in a day... That might help...

You should carry anti-bacterial gel for your hands so that you can clean them and prevent that transfer of germs and bacteria to your face.

Re: Oily skin suggestions

If you have very oily skin, you need to get on a routine. Not just a cleanser. Your skin produces sebum (oil) for a variety of reasons. You can't really control the hormone aspect of it, but if you get on a system that uses a gentle cleanser, a NON alcohol based toner, and a light moisturizer (the moisturizer is extremely important) you can control all of the environmental issues and your skin will be a lot clearer. Also, exfoliate every other day with a gentle exfoliator (not something with walnut powder or apricot kernals). As far as the touching your face part goes, try working on your awareness. Everytime you notice yourself touching your face, pointedly take your hands away and congratulate yourself on catching it. Positive reinforcement will help you control your actions. Plus, they make antibacterial sprays that are safe to use for things like keyboards. Good luck! If you have any questions, feel free to private message me.
