I am a 42 yr old non smoker, non drinker, eat well and have no skin problems. The only problem I have is with clogged pores behind my ears. They do not get infected and are never a white head but they do excrete white material when squeezed. Any help on alleviating this problem would be great!...

hi mysterman. Is the skin behind your ears really dry?

You might want to try an alochol-free toner. Also keep the skin hydrated using some oil-free moisturizer.

I am a little confused when you say its not a whitehead but it does excrete white pus. Why do you believe they are not whiteheads?

wow how did you even see that? i cant even squeeze the skin behind my ears because its like on the back of my head!

I don't get whiteheads or anything but my ears do get oily...

I don't think anyone can unless they're really flexible or something. I use the reverse mirror technique. (2 mirrors)

multiple mirrors!...come on that is not that difficult! it is obviously impossible without mirrors.....and I can also feel them...
......Yes no white head...this is in the crease where the ear meets the skull....

I think applying some retin-A would help greatly. I used to get a few pimples on the back of my neck and retin-a helped to clear them up.

You might be able to find a website that sells it without a prescription.

I would treat the skin like any other part of the body with a breakout. Hair products can really be reaking havoc (forgive spelling). Also after you shampoo and/or condition...then wash body, cuz shampoos and conditioners can tend to clog pores and cause body acne.

You may want to include GENTLY washing behind ears twice a day, with regular facial washing routine. Then and alcohol free toner, you could use a spot treatment too...like a gentle bp (careful it will bleach....so make sure it dried before you let hair or clothing touch it) or salicylic acid spot treatments...OR tea tree oil as a spot treatment...is great for breakouts! This will/may take some time....

Oh and be sure to wash or change your pillow cases every 2-7 days...yes it's a pain, but is very important (think about hair products on your pillow, bacteria everyday, and we place our faces down on our pillows every night....heck even oils from our skin....sounds gross, but it's the unflattering truth).
