Recipes for Skin (continued)!

Fruit Masks

Avocado-Honey Moisturising Mask
Mash up 2 tablespoons avocado, mix with 2 tablespoons honey and 1 egg yolk. A very rich mask.

Prune Mask
This mask sounds and looks disgusting but is very soothing and good for a face tormented by sore underground pimples. Pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 2 dried prunes in a bowl and leave until soft. Mash prunes. Use any leftover prune water in cooking about 1/2 cup oatmeal. Mix oatmeal with mashed prunes and enough honey to make a sticky mash that will adhere to the face. Apply while still warm (but not hot), leave 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

Yogurt Mask
Use natural, unflavoured yogurt; you can add honey and/or oatmeal if you like. The gentle acids in the yogurt are very good to help restore the natural acid balance of the skin.

You can also make masks from mashed fruit pulp, alone or mixed with oatmeal and/or honey till you get the right consistency. Good fruits to try:
Tomato: astringent and a good blackhead remover. Pulp it up and mix with oatmeal, or slice and lay on the face on its own.
Apple: grate an apple and mix with honey to make a mask that soothes and heals acne, and makes your skin look great.
Strawberry: a good oily skin mask. Pulp it up, smear it on the face, wash off. Makes the skin look soft and fine. A good use for over-ripe or bruised berries.
Avocado: Moisturizing. I find it's too oily for my skin, but I've heard good reports from others.
Banana: Also a moisturizer.
Carrot: Grate a carrot, add honey, use as a facial for oily skin. Or you can mash up a cooked one.
Papaya: Natural enzymes in it make it a great for removing dead skin ?like a face peel.
Peach: A nice, good-smelling mask for dry or normal skin.
Cucumber: On its own, is cleansing, astringent and cooling during hot weather. Juice a cucumber and wipe the juice over the face. It will reduce shine and the appearance of wrinkles.

Creamy Green Mask
Mash 1 tablespoon ripe avocado, add 1/2 tsp honey and mix. Stir in a little almond meal until the whole thing is of a pleasant creamy consistency. Apply to clean skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water, massaging gently as you remove to exfoliate the skin.

Scrubs/Salts:
Take some dead sea salt or sugar ..about 2 cups and add some Olive Oil to it (or you could use other oils like Safflower, Macadamia, Almond, Jojoba), enough to make it like wet sand. You can add some essential oils for fragrance ?mix together and keep in dark container. Rub vigorously into skin and rinse off! (you can get dead sea salt on ebay cheap)

Gentle fruit peel

Ingredients: 1 cup fresh pineapple; half-a-cup fresh papaya; 2 tablespoons honey.

This gentle peel is based on active substances found in two tropical fruits, pineapple and papaya. Pineapple contains bromelain and papaya contains papain. Both are proteases, natural enzymes that can break up proteins. When applied to the skin in small amounts (i.e. the amounts naturally found in pineapple and papaya), these enzymes help gently remove dead cells from skin surface producing mild peeling effect. Pineapple and papaya also contain modest amounts of alpha-hydroxy acids that provide additional benefits. Honey is added to increase moisturizing effect of the treatment.

Preparation: Puree pineapple and papaya in a blender or otherwise. Add honey and mix thoroughly.

Usage: Wash your face, then apply the mixture to your skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for no more than 5 minutes (less if you have sensitive skin), then rinse with cool water. When done, apply a moisturizer. Don't use more than once a week. Note: when using this peel for the first time, keep for only 1-2 minutes to make sure there is no skin irritation.

Yogurt-oatmeal masque

Ingredients: 2 tbsp. plain yogurt; 1 tbsp. oatmeal; 1 tbsp honey

Yogurt contains lactic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) and a number of nutrients that may mildly stimulate collagen production in the skin. Oatmeal and honey act as moisturizers

Preparation: Simply mix ingredients together to form a paste. To avoid clumps, you may grind oatmeal into a powder (using a coffee grinder, for instance) before mixing it with other ingredients.

Usage: Wash your face. Massage face with the paste in a circular motion. Keep on for a minute or two then rinse off

Yogurt-aloe healing masque
Ingredients: 1/2 cup plain yogurt; 2 tbsp aloe gel (or a fresh aloe leaf)

Yogurt contains lactic acid (an alpha-hydroxy acid) and a number of nutrients that may mildly stimulate collagen production in the skin. Aloe is a good moisturizer, and contains anti-inflammatory substances. This masque is good for irritated, sensitive skin.

Preparation: Simply mix ingredients together to form a paste. (Aloe gel can be purchased in a health food store. Alternatively, you can take a fresh aloe leaf, remove the skin and mash the pulp. Usage: Wash your face. Massage face with the paste in a circular motion. Keep on for a minute or two then rinse off

You can try using lemon juice on your fingers/hands - soaking them in it and then after rinsing make sure you use a good sunblock/moisturizer.
