Tread mill

how many minutes a day should you walk on the tread mill or how many times a week should you workout on it as well.

Re: Tread mill

I think it varies based on your current level of physical activity. Some people run once or twice a week, others do it every day. I would suggest starting slow and build up the time and sessions to where you feel like you've had a good workout but are not overly exhausted.

Re: Tread mill

I love my treadmill...it's one of the best exercises you can do.

The best way to burn fat using a treadmill is to do "intervals" which basically means to mix it up a bit. Start off at a warm up pace and then really push hard for a minute or two. Then slow down to a medium speed to recover a bit and then go back to full speed for another minute or two. Repeat this pattern a few times. You'll see better results than just going for a steady 30 minutes or so.

And, if you want to burn even more fat, do some strenth training first and then do your treadmill routine...highly recommended.

Treadmill

I agree with the interval workout on the treadmill, you need to mix it up and ramp it up off and on, and you will benefit more, and not have to stay on there so long!

Re: Tread mill

I run four times a week- five miles each time.

Two times I do intervals based on my anaerobic threshold:
Five minutes warm up @3.5 mph
Eight minutes Low intensity @5 mph
Five minutes at med intensity @6 mph
Two and half minutes at high intensity @ 8mph

And repeat the last four in a cycle three times.

Then two other days a week I just run five miles straight out- so much controversy about what the best runs are- I figure Ill be equal opp on it.

Re: Tread mill

Hey,

Start out slow. Thirty minutes at 3.5, three times a week. It may hurt initally, but stick with it,don't quit if you get muscle soreness, because once you get through that you'll NEVER have to do that again. You should add some very light weight lifting for your legs to build strength as well as endurance. It will help you increase your speed over time. Schedule out the next four months in your work out routine.

For example, every month, after my cycle is over, I increase the intensity of my exercise by a little bit. Thats the time that your body is at its most agile and best time for changes in exercise.

Hope that helped!

Re: Tread mill

You shouldn't have to do more than 20 minutes a day-3 to 4 times a week. I also would suggest intervals. It keeps your metabolism confused. This way your body thinks that everytime you walk and your heart beat slows down, that your going to start running again, so it keeps the metabolism running high all day. The benefits of intervals last considerably longer.
