Re: Eczema - What works

azulene is a great ingredient for eczema - but the cream I use in facials also feeds the skin and keeps it soft.

the one I use is Docteur Renaud Paris

Try hyaluronic serum! It works almost instantaneously for my eczema. It's the only thing that actually gets rids of it. Apricot moisturizer is good but nothing compared to hyaluronic serum. You can find it for less then 20 bucks on ebay. I hope this helps!

I think one of the best things for eczema is to start taking fish oil supplements. I started taking them and I suffer from acne anymore or dry skin. I take 2-3 fish oil supplements every day along with vitamin c. If you are looking for a topical method, try raw shea butter or Egyptian Magic Cream.

Re: Eczema - What works

Supplements for eczema: Enteric-coated fish oil, flax seed oil and vitamin E capsules.

Drink half your weight (in ounces) of water. Dehydration makes you more vulnerable.

Avoid fragrances! I mean soap, cleansers, lotions, sunblocks, detergent and fabric softeners.

Avoid all dairy (stuff from cows), all citrus and tomatoes. Google inflammatory food lists with and avoid those foods. (I'm sorry, but no cheese!)

Sunblocks should be only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

Cleansers must be sulfate-free, fragrance-free. Look for betaine.

Moisturize 3-4 times a day with Vanicream or Aquaphor Lotion.

What stopped the Eczema that plagued my twins was bathing them in Avon Skin so soft and Lotion in the Light Blue Bottle Curel? You can also get the spray of Skin so soft

Re: Eczema - What works

I have had an eczema patch on my right leg for years now. Over the years I had another small patch on the same leg, with breakouts on my arms. It's all pretty minor, so I've never been too bothered by it, although there it looks patchy and discolored. The hydrocortisone cream I was prescribed didn't help at all, whereas another cream I got here in the EU helped more. What's funny is that the Skin Soho Colada White Hand & Body Milk I used a couple years ago in hopes to rid of my tan/lighten smoothed down my eczema patch and prevented it from breaking out. While it didn't help me lighten at all, I was pleasantly surprised at the effect it had on my eczema. It must be all the plant extracts it has. xD

Re: Eczema - What works

I don't think it's that. I've used perfume/dye free detergent (no fabric softner) before, but it didn't make a difference. The doctor had told me that eczema is genetically wired in my DNA and that there is no cure, only control, and my immune system is being hyperactive. She also asked if someone in the family had asthma, which my brother did.

Re: Eczema - What works

Totally true that your immune system is hyperactive. Some of the most common things that can trigger and/or worsen flare-ups are fragrances, detergents, dyes, latex, sulfates, cobalt, nickel, rough fabrics, chemicals, dust mites, animal dander, overly dry skin, stress, certain foods and food additives.

While the exact cause of eczema (atopic dermatitis) is not fully understood, resesrch indicates there are genetic influences coupled with several external environmental factors.

The hereditary "defect" in the outer layer of your skin messes up the skin's protective "barrier function" so that environmental irritants, microbes and allergens (fragrances, etc.) can penetrate and incite inflammatory responses.

There's no harm in avoiding fragrances and known irritants completely, using sulfate- and fragrance-free cleansing products, and applying unscented lotions and chemical-free sunscreens. You will be more confortable.

Hope this helps you. Cheers!

Re: Eczema - What works

Eczema runs in families and has no cure. Often family history (like mine) includes sensitive skin, asthma, sinu issues and nasal allergies. Also, an intolerance for inhaled perfumes and smoke.

Re: Eczema - What works

@UrbanSkin Yes, overly dry weather seems to induce flare ups. And I do have nasal allergies, but it's not bad; I sneeze when there's too much dust, the flowers are blooming, and sometimes when there's a cat around, or around cigarette smoke. I do use mostly sulfate/fragrance free products, esp. on my skin. Thanks for the responses!

I'm really glad I'm not allergic to everything, like the list you gave, it must be hard for people who have to take extreme measures to avoid so many things!

Re: Eczema - What works

Sometimes folks can be allergic to things like dairy and fragrances, and it shows up like eczema, not like common allergies.
Stress is a common trigger, so get a lot of sleep and reduce stress.
Another one is dry cold weather, as you said. Drink tons of water, get a water filter if you live in a hard water area, keep heat lower in winter and stay away from heaters. Moisturize 4 x day with Vanicream Lotion. No long hot showers!

Re: Eczema - What works

@Tyrifflik: Yes, I sure have. Where is it? Your legs? Describe it. What do you use now, including cleansing?

Supplements for dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, icthyosis, and dermatitis: Flax seed oil, enteric-coated fish oil and vitamin E.
