Dry Hair Tips

My hair drives me crazy. I try to eat well now. I use a good shampoo on it(Garnier fructis), I moisturize, condition, and am gentle. However, it is always dry. Does anyone have any tips as to what I should do?

Re: Dry Hair Tips

Here is something I read on another site:

# Placing 1 or 2 drops of safflower oil in your palms and rub them together.
# There should only be enough to make your hands "shine" in the light.
# Carefully take your hair (while dry) and "scrunch" the small amount of oil to the ENDS first and work toward the scalp.
# Leave this in your hair.
# 1-2 drops of safflower oil on dry hair is so small, you won’t notice it is there. By doing the above as often as necessary, will ensure your dry hair will have the proper amount of humectants to attract and retain moisture. The key is a small amount will go a long way.

Uh... vtoodler, Garnier fructis, as much as they might advertise on tv and stuff, is not a good product for your hair. Trust me when I say it isn't, though it smells good. Try using products that will work well on your hair. I think, in stores, something like Motions is pretty good for black hair. Stuff like Garnier Fructis, Pantene Pro-v, Pantene Pro-v for relaxed hair, Suave, V05, Head and Shoulders aren't moisterizing enough for black hair. They may make your hair "feel" soft but that doesn't mean its actually moisterizing your hair, just making it feel slick. Try going into a section where you see a lot of products made for black hair and look for one that is moisterizing. That's why you're hair is so dry.

I mean tcb. Basically, you're recommending using ethnic products on my hair.

Re: Dry Hair Tips

Yea, I am... Tcb products are kinda cheap that's why I was recommending Motions if you are going to get your products from a store rather than a salon.

What type of hair do you have? Is it naturally really kinky or does it grow in waves or curls? What type of relaxer do you use, mild, normal, or super? How often do you have to get them. If you could show me a picture that would be great.

It's kinky, and I use Just for Me Relaxer. It's pretty nornmal in intensity. I get perms every 6 weeks during the summer, and every 7 weeks during the rest of the year. I can send you my myspace for a photo.

I used this stuff (the Revitalizer) years ago, I just recently found it on line. AND AM SO EXCIETED. The local store stopped carrying this brand about 15yrs ago.

From my past and present experience it's good on Permed and Natural hair. I use it heavily on wet natural hair. It helps "my" hair maintain Moisture and the naturally curly texture, or texture of the braids.
When I permed years a go, it was great at maintaining the moisture and elasticity of my hair.

I got it in a week ago, and even if I do go back to perming, I'll keep a stock of this on hand!!!

HAIRLOX hair products discounted at Irbys Beauty Supply

If any of you try this let me know your results.

Hey vtoodler,

It?s a very common problem. I think your hair is getting dry due to your scalp problem. You should go for a proper scalp treatment. But remember; don?t go for any chemical treatment as it may cause any harmful side effect. Before going for any treatment you can try out Neem shampoo. It?s completely natural without having any side effects. Neem is an excellent herbal product that helps to moisturize scalps. I may give you a link http://ayucareonline.com/productdetails.jsp?PID=75

Re: Dry Hair Tips

Update,

After almost 18 months, chemical free, I've given up my twisted&natural ways, and have gone for the convience of chemicals.

YEP! I got myself a perm, (and I'm very pleased with the length).

As I said in my earlier post, I'm still going use the HairLox stuff, as my ends are very dry.

Back to chemicals again, me too! I tried to grow out my natural color but everyone I know including myself has gotten used to seeing me with my hair light so therefore its back to highlighting my hair!

Re: Dry Hair Tips

Friend, I really recommend the natural products and treatments over promising yet chemically enhanced products . . . .though results are most likely to be positive ones, results may still vary because of the hair reaction you may have. Thanks

Re: Dry Hair Tips

You should try everything that's natural! Like eggs, mayonnaise, coconut oil and bi-products! That is what my friend does and her hair looks great! I'm not sure about hair spas and if their effective but I always hear people try it out..

Re: Dry Hair Tips

Vtoodler, if your hair is dry and relaxed I also recommend a more gentle shampoo. Try the natural food stores for shampoo that is SULFATE FREE. Store bought brands tend to have unnecessary chemicals and detergents. Deep conditioning treatment once/week (every time you shampoo) and using a light oil on your hair when needed should make things better. Good luck!
