Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

I've tried Bare Minerals and I like it for how light it is and also that I don't seem to get as oily (I have a terribly oily T-Zone, and I mean BAD) as when I use a liquid foundation (even oil-free ones). I recently saw an infomercial for Sheer Cover and am interested to try it because it seems pretty similar to Bare Minerals but has a better price point. Has anyone tried both and if so, which is better?

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

I haven't tried both, but I did finally buy bareMinerals on yesterday and I am just THRILLED to pieces. When that lady at Sephora put it on me and I looked at the mirror I wanted to hug her! I couldn't believe that for ONCE an infomercial was honest. It did just want Leslie said it would. I'm sorry for sounding like a fanatic, but I am so happy with it. It covers my ugly scars and breakouts without being yucky and heavy and although it's sheer it really does cover well.

I am such a bareMinerals girl now. I bought the lip gloss and lip stick as well. I'm not a big make up kind of girl...quite the novice, but I can manage to get this on without looking like a clown. lol And the best thing is that it lets my skin breath while I attempt to heal it.

I'd be interested to hear what others think about the other product you mention, but I've gotta tell you...I'm a bareMinerals customer for LIFE!

Bare Escentuals Toxic Ingredients

I had been using Bare Escentuals for over a year until I found out the ingredients. Bare escentuals face creams etc contain alumium, the methyl group etc. The main ingredient bismuth oxychloride contains lead and is to
make things stick...and so clogs your pores....

Since recently finding out I have an abundant amount of lead and mercury in my body I have to be very careful what I put on my skin, therefore, I found Miessence. Miessence is a product line from Australia. Miessence is the world's first certified and only skin care range, certified organic to food standards.

Since switching to Miessence my skin just glows. I feel I am putting something good on my skin and it shows.

You will be glad you did!

I have been using Bare Minerals for 2 years

I absolutely love Bare Minerals but did not realize it had toxic ingredients. That seems so strange because it is advertised as makeup that is good for your skin. Maybe it is good for your skin but not so good for other things?

Thanks for an informative (but scary) post.

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

Has anyone ever heard of Everyday Minerals? They are completely natural unlike bare minerals and alot of other mineral makeups. I just ordered their free sample kit. I think it is worth checking out.

I'm glad you posted that because I have combination skin also a bit oily in the T-Zone area.

I've read that Bare Minerals contained an ingredient called Mica,
which I guess can make the skin look shiny and that is the last thing
I want is my face to look shiny!!!
Especially my forehead and the tip of my nose.

I've seen this make-up that is suppose to give you that moist and dewy look. But most and dewy on others looks just flat out greasy on me.

Not cute!!!

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

I don't believe she meant the mineral makeup had the toxic ingredient but the skin care product. Mineral makeup as I know has all natural ingredients and has a tendency to heal the skin as well as give the skin an air brushed look. I have tried (and sold) several brands and found them to be all the same with a few shade exceptions. I don't find the expensive versions to be any better than the moderate price ranges.

What Are The Benefits to Mineral Makeup?

The latest hype right now in cosmetics is mineral makeup. Producers of mineral makeups claim that mineral makeup is more than just a beauty trend - mineral makeup can actually be good for your skin. They claim that because mineral makeup is made from "all natural" minerals, it is better than traditional makeup. But what are the benefits to mineral makeup?"Mineral makeup" as its name suggests is composed of all natural, finely grounded minerals from the earth. Ideally, no chemicals, dyes, or preservatives are added (unlike traditional makeup). Dr. Kathyrn Frew, a dermatologist at Juva Skin and Laser Center and Medispa (NYC) claims that mineral makeup is "something that a lot of my patients use and love, and I use it myself."

The most popular form is the loose powder and the blush. These light powders are buffed into the skin using a wide, fluffy brush. Advocates of mineral makeup swear by the light, long-lasting glow that does not exist in traditional makeup. Did I mentioned its light-weight?

Critics complain about dryness and irritations. However, most dermatologists report that mineral makeup is less likely to cause irritation than traditional makeup because mineral makeups do not have the classical irritants such as binders, synthetic dyes, preservatives, and fragrances. "Makeup sensitivity is often the result of synthetic dyes, fragrances, and preservatives, so any makeup that eliminates these is going to eliminate some of the related problems," says Dr. Frew. The main ingredients of most mineral makeup are mica, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide. Dr. Frew explains that because titanium dioxide and zinc oxid have anti-inflammatory properties, mineral makeup can have a claming effect on the skin. This is especially beneficial for patients suffering from rosacea and acne. Dermatologist Francesca Fusco, MD (Mt. Sinai Medical Center), agrees. "It's non-comedongenic, so it won't clog pores, and it's not going to aggravate an acne condition or cause a flare-up as easily as some traditional makeups can," says Fusco.

Beware:
The current trend in mineral makeup is to produce even finer powder. Manufacturers advertise their "fluffy," light product. The finer the powder, the lighter the makeup. Manufacturers of mineral makeup invest in making their particles smaller, so small in fact that it can clog pores and may cause side effects that are not yet reported. So what are the benefits to mineral makeup? Other than having anti-inflammatory properties that may help relieve the effects of acne and rosacea, mineral makeups have no beneficial effects that are medically related.

Mineral Makeup and the Sun:

The addition of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in mineral makeup, two ingredients also commonly found in sunscreen, can serve as a sun protector. However, experts advise their patients to apply regular sunscreen under their makeup and to use the mineral foundation for an extra boost.

Makeup so pure you can sleep in it?

NOT TRUE! Whatever the producer says, DO NOT SLEEP IN YOUR MAKEUP, no matter how pure.

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

i am all for bare minerals! well their foundation and mineral veil powder has done a great job. nothing else i;ve tried has helped me keep my skin shine-free throughout the day yet provides a nice coverage for scars/breakouts/redness whatever. however, im not a huge fan of their eye shadows, bornzers and skin creams. I found a FANTASTIC eye shadow compact called triad shadows from a line called chiiki munki.......(yup thats the way its spelled)! The colors are so much nicer, much more MODERN and true. With names like, venice...metropolis...bistro......you knows its for those cheeky, modern gals who appreciate creativity! Everyone of my friends who sees my chiiki munki makeup in my purse wants to keep it! Must be the name or cute packaging.
Either way i recommend checking them out.

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

I've tried both Bare Minerals and Sheer Cover, Bare Minerals is not all natural if you look at the list of ingredients. I think Bare Minerals is overpriced and I never could find a match plus it made my pores look huge. Sheer Cover was better but I bought a kit in Ulta then thought I would like to try a different shade but when I went to order the CS was very rude and said that I could only order if I originally ordered from them and was on their automatic purchase list.

Re: Bare Minerals vs. Sheer Cover?

Mica is a natural ingredient...basically a form of clay. I use mineral makeup with the following ingredients:

~Titanium Dioxide also has waterproof and SPF properties while providing a Matte look.
~Mica has some transparent properties and allows the makeup to go on smoothly.
~Iron Oxides give the makeup its pigment.
~Zinc Oxide is known for its healing properties in problem skin such as rosacea and acne, it has the ability to stay on even while sweating and swimming, as well as offers protection from the sun's harmful UV rays.
