Hi Seema,
I also tried laser treatments, BIG MISTAKE! I'll never do that again. My melasma became worse.
The Meladerm is ok...sometimes I think I'm seeing some results but it may be wishful thinking on my part. I need more time..., however, now I've combined the Meladerm treatment with HQ 4%. I'm using the HQ at night and the Meladerm during the day. I'll let you know if that works. It is a very slow process...thank goodness I'm a patient person. I'll keep you posted.

Just a quick update on the meladerm. I would say that it's improved my skin by about 85%. The regimen is very tedious, but worth it. I stopped using the meladerm after 4 months (recommended for 3) and immediately I noticed the spots from the laser treatment were more noticeable again. I think I am just tired of constantly dealing with it. So this week I am going to look into the Melanage Peel. I will post what it is and do my research on that as well. I've been using the 4% HQ at night again and it's helping of course, but my concern is using HQ at all. It makes me nervous and I fear the long term effects.
I read online that grapefruit seed extract (in liquid form) is supposed to work wonders for Melasma. It tastes terrible, but if you mix it with orange juice, not as bad. I just bought it at Whole Foods last week, have not tried it yet. I will let you know if I see any improvements. The problem is, it just takes a lot of time, you won't see improvements over night. But I am also patient, but you do get tired of it. I understand, as I feel very frustrated too. I just want it gone and to add insult to injury, mine was made much much worse by IPL. It's frustrating, but I will keep trying and I know I am tenacious, I will find it. LOL
Good Luck & hang in there!

Hi Eternally Beutiful,
I am sure i was at the courthouse clinic and they did the AHA treatment. I am trying to remember which doctor it is that I seen. I did 6 peel (2 aha and 4 Ideobenone). I am not sure if i have seen an emprovement.... i was put off by another doctor in Harley street who told me that peeling is not very good for asian skin.
Can you suggest somehting as I dont mind going back to the courhouse clinic.
thx.

Melasma is a condition which is internal and is very hard to get rid of. Possible drugs/ anti biotics can help and using a combination of topical products which co inside with the oral intake can help. The problem with melasma is that you have to tread very carefully no to stimulate that area or areas. I would definitely not ever recommending IPL for this condition as you're stimulating the melanocyte cell and then that has a knock on effect to the melanin which 30:1 from each individual cell. This in turn switches on and it kinda goes crazy over producing melanin. Less is definitely more and if you use powerful products it can have the opposite effect which you're trying to achieve.
I use Coffeeberry and also idebenone even tones and smooth lines for and on my clients and they have seen a difference. Albeit it is slow but its much better than having adverse effects. Coffeeberry works on pigmentation and can help to control the melanocyte cells going crazy and you would really require a SPF and EPF on 30 and 95 idebenone Radical Defence. Coffeeberry is 99.2% natural and is one and the only one on the market today that is nearly all natural. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me I run my business in Glasgow Scotland and I'm connected to the Courthouse clinics in Harley Street London so skin treatments are my speciality. I deal with all kinds of problems on a daily basis but ultimately it's the clients choice to either take my advice or do to the Doctor / GP for further advices. The problem in society now is that we live in the right now part where people just want to walk in get something to take their concern away and that's in kinda like people wanting to look young so they think instead of working for it just go to a botox clinic and then wham. Instant results (almost). It's not always the answer and this is the MOST difficult to get this point across to clients.
My business website is eternally-beautiful.co.uk any other info email me.

| Seema,
I am not sure who to beleive. It could be that the doctor was just trying to sell his own product as i purchase a obagi product from him and that did peel my skin and he also suggested laser which a lot of people say it is not good. I have not heard of thie melanage peel but will find out from my beautician. I live in UK so there are a lot of product for asian skin. I am seing my dermatologist in the next 3 wks and will ask what i can do now as I have stop using all the cream etc for about 3 months and my skin is not getting any worse.
keep in touch and good luck.

Okay, it's been a month or so and I have been using the citron treatment from the kibbutz in Israel. My melasma has disappeared in parts of my face only, and the more aggressive stains have remained albeit they are much lighter! I don't have it around my cheek area any longer, but my forehead which has the darkest stain on it has become lighter, and my chin area, usually dark grey is definitely very light. The nose area still has some staining on top of bridge but around nostrils, where I had a couple of nasty stains those are surprisingly gone! Overall my skin looks and feels very silky, very nice. There is definitely something magical in the treatment but there is no breakdown of ingredients used for making it. My friend who deals with cosmetics told me that if certain ingredients are used at a certain low quantity, there is never an obligation to even include them on labels, so sometimes we think that a product is 100% natural but it's not and because nothing has been listed on my products, well who knows whether they are all natural. They have been approved by the Ministry of Health which is the equivalent of the FDA in America but who really knows...The bottom line is the citron does work to a certain point, I'm sure that those of you out there who have less severe melasma with brighter stains will get better results. I am planning on getting myself another shipment of this stuff as soon as I get another relative coming out here because my skin does look good for a change. The kit that I received was a vitamin C oil that I have been placing under my tongue everyday after I brush my teeth, and this is the oil that usually dermatologists sell for over 100 bucks. Then I used the cream made out of citron every morning, and at night I used the cream again and put a layer of citron oil on top. The only complaint that I have is that the amount of cream that they gave was terribly small - it hardly lasted the month. Now I only have the oil, and vitamin C left and will continue using those until finished. If anyone can find citron based products then I think it's worth the try. Sorry I couldn't report a cure all for once and for all, but I for one am looking much better and people have already commented on it so it's not my imagination etc..

Hi Karen,
What is the name of the citron based products? I have tried meladerm, and other products w/some success but then seemed to re-darken. I am so frustrated yet I don't want to give up.

| Seema,
Karen seem to have the solution although i am not sure if it is suitable for asian skin. I have just fed up of looking... i think i have sort of given up!. I have bad melasma on my neck and recently have just started wearing normal clothes rather than polo neck stuff. My face also has pathcy melasma but i am just fed up of it all. I go to a speacialist every 4 months and they don't seem to be encouraging. I will only try something now if it is natural...
having said that I might just be having one of those days!

Hi Seema,
Just an update on the results on the Meladerm I've been using for the last 6 months...It has not worked for me at all. I then combined a treatment of HQ 4% at night and Meladerm during the day and again nothing, although I did notice the areas getting darker not lighter. So, there you have it...I'm still searching for a treatment that works.

Yasmin,
For all it's worth...you are not alone. I've been battling this skin problem just a short while but it does get me down too. Doctors really haven't been any help either. All we can do is support each other and continue to share our stories and treatment results whether successful or not. Hang in there, with all this great technology there is bound to be a treatment for melasma in the not so distant future.

Hi, I'm not so sure about solutions but one thing that I find helps with covering it up a fair bit is to use fake tan on my face, apply at night and in the morning exfoliating in the melasma area only before putting makeup on, this seems to even it out considerably. Sorry not to offer actual solution but hpoefully it works for some other people too

Hi LPB,
I also use this method and I've found that it does help a bit for me. I've only tried it a few times and still experimenting with the amount of tanning lotion so as not to appear too fake. I'm glad someone else has found it to be a useful managing tool.

Hi everyone,
My melasma is not getting better but i am still not sure if it is melasma or due to some medication as the doctor cannotfigure it out. Last year I could not walk around wearing a low neck top but i can do that this year. Not sure if it has gone down or i don't really care about it anymore.
I am just fed up of getting up in the morning and looking at someone else. Someone told me that it could not be melasma as whole of my face is dark and it is not in patches. The dark pathes is more distintive around the neck and mouth. I am still not sure what the condition i have but recently i have though about restarting my hair laser treatment again? I have been treading my facial hair but this is really annoying. I don't have a lot of facial hair but i am really concious of it. I am really scare that it will make it worst. Please advise if anyone has any experience in this. I will probably start the treatment in the winter.

I have said this many times, I had it bad on both cheeks and my derma gave me tri-Luma which is harsh but in less than a tube it was gone and has not come back.
