I have come across 2 of the strongest sunscreens avaliable. . I would like to know which one of these is better? and if there is a better one that can prevent darkening of the skin. Ussually these are rated in PPD (Pigment Darkening UVA blocker) than SPF.

1. ANTHELIOS XL SPF 60 MEXORYL

2. SHISEDO SPF 55 PA+++

what do you guys think? also anthelios is a chemical sunscreen and Shisedo is physical. . or does it not matter?

Thanks

Hey guys!
one question: how do you re apply during the day when you are wearing make up? :/ I mean if you use Retin A e.g. and you really need to protect yourself from the sun but are wearing make up what would you do?
Apply your sunscreen before you apply your makeup.......that is what I would do.

Hi @Bkoboy, well is says 99.99% white gold, whatever that means..........never in my life have I see that listed as an ingredient lol. Let me do some research and get back to you on this. I will see if I can find more info that this. Because if it contains 99% white gold, ............its not a sunblock

@FabSilhouette I've never used California Baby, looks like they only have one version that contains zinc, and its a very small amount 5%. Not sure where you are located, but be careful if you are in a really warm climate.......this SS isn't going to hold up well. What other option do you have? Look for something with at least 10% zinc if you can.

Oh dear:( I bought it immediately after I posted that comment but didn't like it cos I think it develops a nasty smell after a couple hours.

Anywhoo I'm in North America atm (Summer officially starts tomorrow!). I'm currently using a CVS brand (name is 50 Clear Zinc Sun Lotion Broad spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen). It is also 5% zinc. Can you give me a list of affordable good ss? Please? Something that won't leave me looking like a ghost.

For a long time I've enjoyed
BurnOut KIDS BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 35 No chemical sunscreen -for sensitive skin
&
BurnOut BROAD SPECTRUM SPF 35 Clean & Clear Zinc sunscreen -ECO SENSITIVE

They both have 18.9% NN zinc oxide

lately I have not been rebuying it as much after wanting to find something I can run out to the closest drug store and pick up and not have to buy online

So in recent times I've been using Neutrogena SheerZinc DRY-TOUCH SUNSCREEN Broad Spectrum spf 50 -purescreen
This one has 21.6% zinc oxide protection

I have used dozens of sunscreens in my life and I will stand strong with the opinion that this one is the best I ever used in terms of strong protection and long lasting protection. It even protected me great on a hot/humid day where I never reapplied it because I accidentally left it at home so I was stuck reapplying my friend's crappy spraycan sunscreen on top of it.
It's strength is better than burnout's that does need to be reapplied after 4-5ish hours but ofcourse it depends if your inside or outside, whether your dry, sweaty or wet and your individual skin.

Two Cons

1. It takes longer to apply than burnout since you have to rub more to make the cast look decent, but it's cast still better than most Zinc Sunscreens imo

2.You will miss Burnouts creamier texture if you used it before Neutrogenas- which can leave your skin feeling dehydated by comparison. Burnout works great as a primer under liquid makeup for this reason.

With this said I still use both brands. Most often I put BO on my face, jaw, neck, & ears. NG I put everywhere else, I like how this lets me save my BO usage time.

BO Wins in (viscocity)texture, ease, & cast. NG wins in (efficiency)strength, lasting time, sweat resistence,
and ease of access.

I also feel confident on non scorching non humid days not reapplying it when I hold my arm up to the nearest light and seeing the full amount of product I initially put on is still there. Because of this I can stipple on makeup or sallyhasen over it and hide it perfectly if I desir to.

I haven't tried it on myself but applied it on my niece just a few weeks ago actually. Its pastie......open the cap and try it on at the store, rub it on the back of your hand, thats the best way to see how it will apply.

Master sunscreen thread? Post what has worked for you in preventing a tan

I think this would help a lot of people because of weather and when I tend to lose the most progress
Everybody can post what has worked for them and prevented tanning. Also if you can post your sun conditions and sunscreens that work well for water sports /activities.

here is my list

Shiseido Babies n children SPF 50+ the most effective ever, but has an intense white cast. brightens your skin.Good if you are NC 20 or lighter

Avene very high protection from europe .. great layered with zinc at the beach , waterproof some white cast

La Roche posey XL anthelios with meroxyl SPF 50+ from Europe not the US one It is amazing. Prevented tanning while I was under the sun on a horse for 45 mins straight no hat very little white cast

Neutrogena for face SPF 70 or so : useless in preventing a tan. US sunscreens don't seem to cut it

I have not tried burnout yet.

The sucky thing about finding a great physical mineral sunscreen is that when I read or hear someone hyping up about it, I get super excited only to find out it's a measly tiny bottle or package. In which I can use it on my face, neck and maybe exposed chest areas.. but I also need a much bigger bottle for the rest of my body. So I don't know what to do. Is there any really good sunblock out there that has:

1. No (or very minimal) white cast
2. Superior protection against burning AND tanning (that last part is super important!)
3. Is mineral based (no chemicals)
4. Lasts relatively longish
5. Comes in an economical size from my head to my toes

?????

Regarding Burnout; it has Sorbitan Stearate and Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil that can cause issues for skin with fungal acne.
Also Avocado Oil is comedogenic for some skin. I don't have acne so not an issue for me, but the avo oil?

What're your thoughts on Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen

Also, thoughts on Baby Zinc (the Walmart baby physical sunscreen)

The versions I use don't contain either ingredients you mention. I use Face/Body version and Eco version. I've also used the Kids version, but still my favorite is Face/Body and nothing has changed in it, I have a new tube I recently purchased, all is the same. @Fortunecookie

@gymrat I know like me you have a whole store of sunscreen in your room lol. Which one do you think works the absolute best in preventing a tan burnout, bioderma, euro la rode posay, avenue or any other Thanka !
Hi @lillyjill how are things? Sunscreen......well I am just now getting into sunscreen mode, we've had SO much rain this year, its been nice not having to lather up so much! I like/prefer Burnout, it works well for me. When I travel and or it gets really hot where I am I will turn to Purple Prairie. But if white cast is an issue for you, then you may not like it. For myself, I don't care about the white cast when I am trying to protect myself. PP holds up really well in heat/humidity. Bioderma I love, its an old fav of mine, and always keep it in my collection because its great for cooler months.

I know Neutrogena has a Pure/Free Baby, and Banana Boat has a Simply Protect Baby, but I'm not a fan of either brand. I've used Coppertones Water Babies but I'm not a fan of it either. Not sure which one your referring too that contains 21% zinc. I'm a hard sell when it comes to SS. So many are greasy and those type I refuse to wear.
