When is it necessary to add a chelator?

Are chelators necessary to prevent the release of metal ions from botanicals which may cause pro oxidation? I know some actives like green tea are known to be an issue but how about something very simple. For example, a simple toner formula containing distilled water, calendula extract, glycerine and a preservative system at pH 5.5? Kind thanks!

I have disodium EDTA and have never found a reason or need to use it. I like to keep my DIY projects simple, the more complicated they are the less I am interested.

I would email John at Bulkactives, he's awesome and always more than helpful with my questions/concerns.

He also has info on chelating agents here
