Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

ive been wondering the same thing. so far i hear stuff about methyl arbutin, mequinol, and benzoquin.but the they seem to be whitening ( it completely depigs the skin) and most poeple dont look good with colorless skin. im waiting to see what info i get on mequinol. it seems to be a good lightening agent but i dont know if the results are perminant.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

I tried mequinol for about 4 months and it actually made my skin darker at first. It then got maybe a shade lighter if that. After I stopped using it, my color returned. I dont think its permanent at all.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

I think monobenzone is the only permanent solution. But I have read that it can depigment unevenly and make it look like you actually have vitiligo.

Monobenzone depigs the skin completely.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

mono is permanent but it also will cause white patches on your skin. some people say it can take years before the entire skin becomes depigmented.

with mono, is it a gradual process, slowly getting lighter. or does it just totally start to depigment your skin? I would like to know. I already have patches on my skin that are nearly white.

its really unpredictable. For some people it is gradual, for others it completely depigments the skin in spots.

THe trick is to dilute it with a lotion or a cream so as to avoid the white patches.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

mono just messes up your skin. no pigment on your skin is really dangerouse. your skin ages faster and you increase your risk of skin cancer. plus it really doesnt look good on most people. mono really doesnt gradually lighten. you pretty much go from dark, to zebra, to white. i dont think mono is permanent at first. it takes several years to completely damage your melanocites. if you want to look like michale Jackson then thats the way to do it.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

4 months doesnt seem like a long enought time to expect permanent results form mequinol. i dont know. i just whish someone would come forward with some kind of experience greater then 9 months and at least 4 months without maintainance. i know that is alot to ask but hopefully somone will come along soon.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

I wish there was a product out there that was permanent. Like I wouldn't care about the price, just if it could last forever without having to constanly keep buying to keep up the color. Sounds impossible, but nothing's really impossible nowadays. I'm just prayign for that day to come. I would never do something as drastic as that monobenzone thing you all are talking about, I don't want to be white, just a lighter shade. Mono also looks unnatural and it totally ruins your skin.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

I agree with lovemelots. You know I heard that laser skin lighening may be permanent, but I'd be so hesitant to do that for various reasons.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

See, I don't know much about it. All I know is that I went to do a physical with my doctor. I have this really black birthmark on my arm, and my doctor told me that laser surgery could fix my birthmark. She didn't go ino specifics about the laser surgery, though. But, I'd be hesitant to do that on my face cuz facial skin is like 10 times more delicate than body skin. But if you're still interested, then you can consult a dermatologist/medical internalist.

Re: is any skin lightener permanent?

I've heard of this stuff called methyl arbutin. It's supposed to be permanent but I'm not sure about the safety. Regular Arbutin is a less powerful form of methyl arbutin, it's the stuff they use in Fair & flawless, which is why F&F is not permanent. This site I went on had stuff about how "Arbutin inhibits the formation of melanin pigment by inhibiting Tyrosinase activity which makes it a permanent lightener but doesn't have the nasty side effect of Hydroquine". I can't tell wheter or not that statement is based on Arbutin or Methyl Arbutin. One thing's for sure I am not going to use ANYTHING until I am 100% sure that it's safe. I wouldn't want to use something only to end up with cancer or something a few years later. I also don't want to buy mutliple products. So I'm going to keep researching this methyl arbutin and see what I come up with.
