its not good to put bleaching creams on developing children because their melanocytes are still forming, so by bleaching it, she is setting her kids up for an uneven very patchy almost mild vitiligo-like skin in the future.

That's why there's a minimum age for using these creams. Dr's prescribe them only to children with severe Vitiligo.

Even though tyra seems like a well-intentioned woman, I think she is often misguided from all the time she spends with the superifcial starts/media in both Cali and New York, even if she tries to block it out, it can subconsciously seep into her mind. The producers of the show also has about 80% say in the course of the topics presented. Same thing for Oprah, her show is a little mellowed out but most of her topics are kind of biased with moderate stereotypes.

I was a little put off by Oprah's near messianic fervour regarding The Secret & that online 'school' she set up that time focussing on Eckart Tolle's A New Earth. I'm all for learning about & discussing new & alternative spiritualities, but whenever one emerges she seems to blindly hop onto the bandwagon & become almost a prophet. Then, along comes the next one & she hops right on again. While a person ought to be free to believe as they wish, once you use yr access to tens of millions of people as a platform for every new movement that chances by, it is problematic. As a journalist first & foremost, Oprah ought to value professional objectivity & critical thinking. In Rhonda Byrne's book, for ex, she claims that 'manifesting' or 'attracting' things is a matter of magnetism wherein like attracts like. Well....with magnetism opposites attract & likes repel. She claims that if you think negatively, only negative things will manifest in yr life. I'm a believer in positive thinking & keeping the chin up & all that, BUT a word or two must be added to differentiate between unflagging positivity & denial or insensitivity. In the beginning of the book, she mentions that her life & body had fallen apart. She'd become overweight & was in a near suicidal depression. What sis she manifest? More depressed people? A bridge to leap from? NO! When she was at her lowest point, she 'manifested the gift of Wallace Wattle's book about the Law of Attraction & manifesting wealth etc. In her own case, opposites attracted.

TV & the powerful personality cults around talk show hosts can blind members of the public to the critical thinking needed in processing the messages we get from these shows. I try to step bakc & assess what I'm seeing & hearing & NOT just go along because 'I saw it on the ___ show'.

what you see and read is never what is happening behind the scenes ESPECIALLY on TV where you have some producer whipping researchers to create content whilst station ed is riding them to boost ratings.

for example that is why i have a natural scepticism about things i read about the beauty industry, PRs peddle clients and products to you like free drugs and a sense of guilt often makes many journos/editors succumb to false or exaggerated reports on the benefits of said items. thats why sites like this are so invaluable because there are no ulterior motives and views are unbiassed.

as for tyra im not sure how well intentioned she is, brings me back to my first point, but its just crappy sensationalist fodder for the masses. it serves it purpose like bad junk food ditto oprah but i agree sold her journalistic integrity way down the river years ago.

as for the rest of the lightening issue, people need to do whatever makes them happy as individuals but the kids. hmmm not so sure - im big on being able to choose! but some really good points raised by you guys.

I just watched the video and it doesn't seem to appear that the bleaching creams they use are working, if at all. they all are still dark by most standards.

Yes, the bleaching creams are not working for them because they are not using sunblock and if they are then the sunblock is not very good, they are not exfoliatiing with RA or anything, well they use St Ives Scrub but thats as good as rubbing with your finger (you need dermal exfoliation like acids and retinoids) and they do go out in the sun after applying MORE HQ than needed onto the skin without again, protection. Applying more HQ doesnt lighten, it just clogs up, a quarter sized thin layer is more than enough since it is an ACTIVE ingredients and it communicates with skin cells.

The scrub just lifts loose stuff from the surface, The RA not only exfoliates but penetrates; taking the HQ along with it.

Why is she taking her show off air? I thought it was like popular among certain demographics. Anyways, I never liked her show on the days that I was home. She is too loud, ANNOYING, talks about herself wayyy too much, blinks her eyes more than anyone on this planet, and the worst part is: her facial and body expressions on pretty much every topic presented on the show from racism to bleaching shows that she is JUDGING in a negative way.

She may be bisexual because some of her actions show this. She is fake, too because she says one thing and does another most of the time but her heart is always in the right direction. I agreee with everybody else on Tyra Banks, though because she doesn't know what she wants as a woman or as a person for that matter. She is also full of herself because whenever I watch her show, she's in the middle of saying, "I understand because when I was modeling" or "When I was younger, I used to be teased, too". It's more like the guests are there to help her instead of her helping them out.

asides from medical issues excessive blinking is a body language sign to watch for when one is lying.....i noticed her excessive blinking when she was discussing rhinoplasty.....i will say no more

I used to like Tyra Banks when she modeled for VS, when she didn't open her mouth. Tyra is a sad representation for what daytime talk shows should be. I still remember and episode where she brought out a family who were grieving the loss of their father/husband who passed away a month before the show. Tyra went out of her way to show how much she wanted to help this family..etc..etc...etc. She promised the woman the help she would need to get through the difficult times. So, what does she do? She gives the newly single mother a package to a spa. A spa.

Then to add insult to injury, she turns to the camera face on and announces that the entire audience will be getting spa packages courtesy of her. It was a disgusting act that showed how Tyra was more focused on the audience's reactions and buzz about her "gifts" than actually helping the family that came to her show. I am glad she is done with daytime.
