Re: Information on Retinoids

No gymrat I was talking to moni09 about the vit. C serum. Earlier I was responding to you saying Yes...that was the thread I was talking about. The one you referred to is the one I was thinking of.

Re: Information on Retinoids

Thank you LightenNLift, this is a very comprehensive info on the subject. I plan to copy it and keep it handy for future reference. I have been using Tretinoin cream (0.05%) for the past year and I'm extremely happy with the results. Your detailed analysis of the product (along with the others mentioned) confirms my feelings that this is the way to go. Keep up the good work!

Re: Information on Retinoids

thanks sweetheart, stick around and share your future experiences. Yes, Retin-A is one of those drugs that without any real knowledge, people tend to think it doesnt do anything beneficial for your skin since it is irritating and causes flaking and redness BUT once you are educated of the way it works, its receptor sites in your skin and how it produces collagen and reverses DNA damage from daily sun, environment, and pollution exposure then you start to appreciate it. It is also crucial for one to learn how to apply and how to take care of skin treated with Retinoids and after you've done your Retin-A tutorial, you will find that it's the #1 long standing miracle cream backed by science.

Re: Information on Retinoids

Refissa is another variation of Renova, is the tretinoin 0.05% cream, comes ONLY in this strength and is specifically for dry skin and treatment of fine lines and wrinkles by boosting collagen production. Refissa has a very emollient base just like Renova (which is specifically manufactured for anti-aging than acne). Refissa and Renova are excellent Retin-A cream to use for people who dont have any acne or are not acne prone to reap the benefits of the anti-aging, cell turnover, DNA damage reversal benefits of tretinoin without the harsh side effects such as irritation, redness, and noticeable flaking like regular/generic Retin-A.

My derm sent me an email about it. I just read al about it, I wondered if you had ever tried it. Guess not if it is more for those with anti aging issues-

I will see what Peri thinks about it next time he is around. My RAM is really fine for me anyways. I think my derm knows I am a skincare freak and sends me info on stuff all the time. This could be good, but can also be bad-

Re: Information on Retinoids

Gymrat, I strongly believe that either Refissa or Renova will be gentle yet potent/effective for post accutane skin. The problem with post-accutane patients who use straight retin-a or RAM is that its not designed for the type of skin that comes out from the other end of the strong Vitamin A/Accutane course, straight retin-a/RAM peels and irritates their new skin and for what when you could be using emollient based, non irritating, no noticeable peeling Refissa/Renova designed to work with the full benefits towards anti-aging.

I have never really had a bad reaction from using RAM, except when I tried using the .1%-that was just plain foolish on my part-. So far so good on the post Accutane.

I do think I will get a Rx for the Refissa, just to give it a try. I really like the feel of the Green Cream because of its emollient base, so I am sure I will like the Refissa. Plus the Refissa will be cheaper having an Rx-

Have you tried the pumpkin peel from NCN yet? If not you need too. It leaves your face feeling smooth and you get a great glow-

I m a big fan of SkinCeuticals, please advise which one i should go for C E ferulic or AOX20?i tried all SkinCeuticals products, but never AOX 20..Is it the latest?Thank you in advance..

Re: Information on Retinoids

The Skinceuticals C E Ferulic has 15% Vitamin C, 1% Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Ferulic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid.

The Skinceuticals AOX 20 basically is short for Vitamin C 20% with Ferulic Acid Antioxidant concentrate. You are not missing out on much if you purchase the C E Ferulic. Unless you think you need 5% more vitamin C from the C + E Ferulic then go for AOX 20, but if you want more antioxidants such as Vitamin E, Hyaluronic, and Ferulic then go for the C + E Ferulic. I used the C + E Ferulic and the AOX 20 and didnt notice a difference between either of them.

If you are on a budget, an economical source to buy a AOX 20 that is just as good as Skinceuticals is: Cosmetic Skin Solutions

Oh, u are so informative, thank you very much..I m using C E Ferulic for to years now and just loving it,but always want something better,i know of cosmetic skin solution their C E serum on my wish list, but because it doesnt have much reviews and because of its low price i m apprehensive to use it..but if u recommend might have a second thought..I was thinking to switch from SkinCeuticals to Cellex -C,but after reading your posts where u mention Skin Medica vitamin C complex i found it in Amazon only for 54$,so i decided to give it a try..Thank you indeed..

Re: Information on Retinoids

Hi LightennLift
I am a new member. Just registered as I am searching for advice for my problem.
You are fantastically knowledgeable and I am frankly impressed by how much you know... I will be grateful if you can advise me...

1) You talk about Retin A...I remembered I was given Retin A when I had pimples. Is this the one that I can use? Can you show me the packaging?

2) How can I get rid of my pigmentation? I am afraid of laser pain.

3) How to make my skin youthful looking? Vit C?

I am from Singapore and knows nothing about all these.. and I am overwhelmed by all the information everyone is exchanging.. and getting a little confused...

Re: Information on Retinoids

Hi LightennLift,

Do you know what is Retancnyl ? Recently I consult a doctor on some eczema problem on face,,,and after using some "steriod" cream, it was heal.. Afterthat, my daily routine is vit c (the derma's own brand) followed by antioxiand moisture infusion (derma's own brand) and followed by retancnyl . This routine is for evening. I had peeling for using retancnyl. The dermatologist asked me to use alternate night.

Is Retancnyl the same as Retinoid that you were talking so good about. After reading few of your recommendation, I am so tempted to go and get one to try.. but I am in Singapore and many products are not available here... We have Avene here but not sure if they have those retinoid you mentioned.

Please give me your kind advise.

Hello and Welcome,
1) Yes the same Retin-A you were given for pimples/acne can be used for other purposes such as skin lightening, rejuvenation, acne scars/spot removal, etc.
2) How can you get rid of hyperpigmentation as in dark uneven areas of the face or pigmentation as in skin lightening and getting rid of your skin color? Specify on that. To get rid of hyperpigmentation, you need to start using a PEA sized amount of Retin-A on your whole face (or wherever you have pigmnetation problems) every night along with Hydroquinone 4% 30 minutes later.
3) Yes, that would be correct, to make your skin youthful looking, you can use Retin-A at night and a Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid) 20% Serum during the day under your Sunblock.

Retacnyl is another brand name for Tretinoin; Tretinoin is what makes up Retin-A, therefore, Retacnyl is similar to Retin-A because they have the same essential ingredient. Avene is an excellent brand for Retrinal and Retinalhyde, it is part of the Retinoids family.

Re: Information on Retinoids

hi LightennLift,
Thanks for your reply...
I have few questions still...

1) If I am using Retacnyl now, does it mean I dont have to use Retin A?
Either one will do , is it?

2) Will Retacnyl get rid of pigmentation , like Retin A?

3) My doctor asked me to use Vit C followed by Retacnyl.. I am wondering now .. can these two be used together. If I remembered correctly, it was mentioned that Vit C is NOT to be used with Retinoid right? In this case, why did the doctor asked me to use Vit C with Retacnyl ?

Thanks
