it stops as your skin gets used to it; you get the flaking and peeling in excess when you first start off because of years of built up dead skin cells and the initial process of remodeling the dermis wherein lies more dead skin cells which havent surfaced and the Retin-A brings in out; it typically lasts about 2 to 3 months used regularly or every other night until the flaking and peeling ceases and that takes a PEA sized, very thin coat, to achieve.

| Im new to the forum,so im still doing my research..you guys seem awesome
Unfortunately RA simply won't fit my lifestyle do to all the shedding/peeling..I cheer for my university and with our uniforms its impossible to get away with those things,so I think Differn would be the better choice for me personally..I have yet to start but does this regimen sound sufficent?
*morning*
Shower with Likas Papya Soap
Wash Face
Apply Vitamin C serum (let soak/absorb for 5 minutes)
Apply Sunscreen
*Night*
Shower with Likas Papya Soap
Wash fash
Take Differen with Sepiwhite (Tonique gel for face,Cream for body)
My overall goal is for my skin to become bright, even, and to lighten a shade or two! (im Gabrielle Union's skin tone) Im not so comfortable going the HQ %4 route do the "bleached out" look those achieve and the comments about it not reacting well to the sun! Kinda Impossible in Sunny LA =/
Any help would be appreciated!!

Ok this regimen sounds great, but these are my modifications:
1. Only use likas on your body, not on your face, it can be drying for the face.
2. Start off with a pea sized amount of differin, it wont give you any irritation or flaking, your skin will just look tight like it was when you were very young.
3. Use a very mild face wash such as Purpose Gentle Cleansing, Paulas Choice (any formulation), or Cetaphil.
4. Make sure your sunscreen is either a European one with the ingredients Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl XL or if you cant get them online, buy a Neutrogena one that has Helioplex for maximum protection.
5. Wait half an hour to apply Differin after washing your face or showering at night and wait an additional hour apply the Tonique after Differin. If your skin feels dry, itchy, or flaky then a moisturizer is your savior, you must use a moisturizer to keep your skin looking its best.

| Thanks for the quick reply..I will continue to search the forums for the best european sunscreen and Vitamin C serum, but some quick questions,if you don't mind!
I apply differin only to my face correct?
A gentle cleanser? I've have just recently gotten clear and flawless skin due to Clinque's 3 step system...would i have to give it up? If so, I guess it wouldnt be so bad since Differen will take care of the acne
I read your post on Tonique..Im 5'3 weighing at 110 pounds...How many Tonique Creams/Gels would I need to order for a month supply?
whats your opinion on lightening and stretch marks? I work out daily and have gotten two small but noticable ones on my upper theigh >=(
and lastly,I was recently introduced to the website Makeupartistchoice by this forum..all of it sounds so interesting...but I don't know where to start, does the 40% latic peel sound okay?

| Hi there, can I just ask how you manage the above regime during winter? If you wait half an hour after washing your face and put nothing on it at all during winter, your skin dries up very much. Is it possible to apply a moisturiser immediately after washing your face then wait 30 mins to apply the Differin? Many Thanks

Rugen22, apply moisturizer right after washing your face then wait an hour before applying the Differin.

| 1. Differin will take care of your acne, however, you can treat your few pimples here and there with a mixture of Dan's Acne.org BP and this mixture of oils from thevitamincure.com. Mix those products together and apply to your pimples only when its unbearable or if you get a breakout once in a while or an Initial Breakout from the Differin, dont use this mixture everyday.
2. Lightening has nothing to do with stretch marks, for stretch marks get some liquid stevia and apply it on there and wrap it Saran Wrap at night, this will tighten your skin. You can also look into taking Vitamin C, MSM, and Hydrolyzed Collagen supplements to "fill" the stretch marks or make them less noticeable.
3. I would recommend you use the 40% Lactic Acid peel for quick 1 to 2 shade lightening of the skin and removal of dead skin cells. It wont flake or peel like other peels.

Thanks for the info.
Retinoids deliver a plethora of benefits to individuals of various ages. In addition to the FDA-approved indications, topical retinoids have numerous off-label benefits and a promising future. Topical retinoids can be tailored to simultaneously address various specific dermatologic needs.
Thanks,

| I don't understand.
Aren't you supposed to use HQ twice a day once in the morning and once at night right along with sunblock? Or just at night?
There is conflicting info on this from this forum and directions on HQ tubes.

The info is not contradictory. You may apply HQ during the day as well but you have to use a very high SPF Sunscreen, cover ur face from the sun when going out and spend not more than 10 to 15 minutes in the sun during the hours of 11 to 4 pm.

Does including a moisturizer enhance results of Retina A, if you are using Retina at night? Or is it better to use Retina A nightly.

It totally depends on you. If you feel that your skin is dry, itchy, red, and irritated then you may use a moisturizer 1 hour after applying the Retin-A, however, if you feel that you are fine using it by itself w/o moisturizer then you may do so.

Why are RA 1% results more "dramatic" than the results of RA mirco
I recently discovered two of my friends (african-american twins) have been using RA for 5/6 months now. The one using RA 1% has FLAWLESS looking skin! You know when you turn to the side and you see tiny imperfections? She has none of those now! While the one using RA micro hasn't had acne in forever but she still has some tiny imperfections!

| | Re: Information on Retinoids
Retin-A 0.1% - the full strength gel version is specifically for acne so it will do its task and deep clean out every single pore on your face over a period of 6 to 12 month by then there wont be any imperfections because your skin has been exfoliating and peeling continously with regular use and new skin formed comparable to when you were a baby. The Retin-A Micro, however, is released on the skin over a long period of time, unlike the full strength Retin-A, it isnt utilized instantly with a whole whack right away and is recommended for those with sensitive skin who can use it to get used to Retin-A and switch to the regular one. The other friend might still have imperfections because her skin is taking longer with the Retin-A MICRO to completely become flawless w/o the tiny imperfections while the one who used the full strength 0.1% got faster results.
