I tried the Eucerin mixing. Alas, the Eucerin/HQ mix did not work for me, then I tried the other ways with Eucerin and other stuff. I may try it, again, at a later date.
Long story short, I'll be sticking to the serum, for now. I know it'll be extra extra potent, but I don't want to keep wasting this PG. I'll mix a smaller amount and see how my skin takes to the HQ/PG seeing as how I didn't care for the HQ/DPG.

Do you mean that the gents did not emulsify together well or do you mean that they did BUT there was no lightening?

The HQ Eucerin didn't emulsify. The HQ sat on the bottom and turned brown. I tried, like, 2 other ways which didn't work. I have some EXCITING NEWSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! which I will start a post about when I get back this evening!!!!!!!!!!!

Ondine = did you mix the 10% HQ/Eucerin? Did you add SW?
Any noticeable lightening?

Has anyone tried this and is it possible? Purchase an over the counter skin lightening product like Porcelana that contains 2% hydroquinone and use that as a base with which to add the extra hydroquinone. It seems to me that these type of products already contain what is necessary to emulsify the hydroquinone crystals, so what you are doing is in effect amping up the hydroquinone percentage from 2% to whatever percentage you want. That might work with the double boiler heating procedures.....

I tried that, the 2% hydroquinone creams turn brown when heated and they would not be a good base either way because they contain sunscreen agents which interfere with the process.

| Thanks, good to know so I don't waste my time. I wonder if you could liquify hydroquinone and then add it to cream base without heating and just stir it in.

I had the same experience mixing OTC 2% HQ products with raw actives - the cream turned brown very quickly and in some cases separated and became watery and runny.

apparently it cannot be reheated. I tried it too with one of my test batches just to see what would happen. Well...it turned into that gross brown mess like a certain 'mono' vendor sells. Some derms suggest pulverizing the raw HQ crystals 1st then either blending them directly into the base cream. Most, however insist that after pulverizing them, they be melted into the cream.

I tried the recipe you gave Ondine and my batch came out brown
I followed it mostly step by step.. the only thing(s) I can think of is I used HQ crystals that had been sitting in my bathroom in a sealed baggie (not in an opaque container), but the crystals looked the same to me...
Then I was following your instructions time wise.. like leaving the mixture in the pot for 10 minutes then 5 minutes. But when I measured the temperature it was at a whopping 190 degrees!
So do you think those things could have attributed to my cream turning brown??
Oh and I was trying to make HQ 10% by using 3 tablespoons of Eucerin and 1 teaspoon of HQ (3 teaspoons in a tablespoon).
Thanks :-D

Anyone having mixing problems should just mix dpg and hq - I promise you it will work. 10 grams to every 100 ml.
Do not deviate from this. IT WILL WORK.

dipropylene glycol, it is a carrier base for your hydroquinone to melt and be absorbed into your skin, it can be found realy cheap in ounces and even gallon on ebay and local stores.

aww thanks guys. its been crazy recently so sorry i havent been contributing lately.
After using DPG and HQ mix I can say with confidence that it works fine. No creams to mess with, just thinly apply it like baby oil. As you are working with DPG, you can even add some fragrance to it.
A light application means fast absorption, meaning you wont have to wait for ages to apply your SPF.
This method is the perfect solution for darker skin. I have slowed down my process so my arms/back and bum catch up with the rest of me but is works perfectly and does not turn brown unless it comes into contact with water.
This is a really simple method. You only need 10% concentration, SPF50 spray (OR P20 Reimann - lifeguards use this for a onetime application) use in AM on exposed areas and reapply through day)
Combine this with your retina/glycolic you've got a working lightening method. (well for me anyway)...............
