Well, my skin is normal/dry but prone to breakouts in a NY minute, but this didn't bother me. NOT greasy or slimy, no white cast after it "melts in". I use a primer over it and then foundation and this is excellent...no waxy buildup! It's lightweight. A bit pricy but I like it and that's the hard part - finding something that you won't make excuses not to wear!!

Can I just say it's spelled "EUROPEAN"???? GAH!

I just hope it doesn't change my skin tone the way C E ferulic did. I do not want my face being darker than the rest of me.

I hate wearing sunscreens too. They always tend to leave my face greasy and is one of those time-consuming must-dos!

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

I've been using a euro sunblock for a while now that I really like. It's L'oreal Solar expertise Active Anti-Wrinkle and Brown spot Matte Fluid Protection SPF50+. The texture is really nice, kinda like the popular Shiseido sunscreen. I think the PPD is around 19-20. I ordered it from Mistry's Pharmacy and even in the US received it in good time for a decent price.

I've tried Helioplex, causes an all-day stinging sensation. I hate it. Are there even studies showing it is actually effective? Anyway, I have been using a product with tinsorb in it for about 6 months now. Works much better and is way more sensitive than heliocrap. Next I try something with mexoryl.

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

BabyBoySkin, it seems like a lot of products cause your skin to be irritated easily, was your sensitive skin acquired from long term use of harsh products earlier in your life or is this genetic/innate? You could give the Garnier Ambre Solaire a try, its specifically for sensitive skin and has both Mexoryl SX, and Mexoryl XL, periwinkle and I have both been using it for a long time with success. It also has a built in moisturizer/hydration complex with Vitamin E.

I don't think it is so much that alot of products are causing me irritation as that alot of products that wouldn't cause irritation prior to retinoids are now causing such. I have been using tinsorb based sunscreens for the past 6 months which are no where near as irritating as helioplex. I actually saved a few sellers of the Garnier Ambre solaire product and plan to purchase it within the next week or so. It sounds like an excellent sunscreen. In my experience there is so little found in places like CVS and other's for sensitive skin that it makes more sense to just purchase all skin care products online. I made one exception about 2 months ago when I purchased some cetaphil gentle skin cleanser but even that is not the best thing out there.

The bottom line for me, I think, is to simplify the regimen as much as possible. Too many actives on my particular skin type is not a healthy thing. I have stopped using all helioplex based sunscreens, vitamin creams, C serum, most moisturizers and such. At this point my regimen consists in the main of retin-a 0.025% 3-4 nights a week in minimal quantities, topical niacinamide every day either once or twice, clinique dramatically different moisturizer as a bufferer for the RA and the current tinsorb sunscreen with build in moisturizer. One thing I would still like to use however is vitamin B5 as it does add moisture retention. I just do not know where to fit it in because I do not want actives colliding and canceling one another out.

Like, would I apply it before the metazene, after, etc. I wonder if it would even be useful as an alternative bufferer for tretinoin.

hi LNL,

Out of all these 5 sunblock, which one is the best suited for oily skin. All sunscreens that I have used so far leaves my face very greasy and sticky. It becomes very difficult for me to wear makeup after this.

Which one would you recommend for oily skin like mine? Currently, the avene cleanance solaire that I use makes my face look like a ball of grease!! I am looking to buy something that will leave my skin matte.

Thanks in advance.

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

Just wanted to add my 2 cents.. I just got my Garne Ambre in the mail last week and I've been using it for a few days, so far so good!! It leaves no white cast at all (or very minimal), so it would be good for the tan/brown-skinned people on here. I bought that Avene very high protection cream Avene Very High Protection Cream SPF 50 Reviews at SkinStore.com and it made me look like a ghost! It may be good for our VERY fair skinned people on here... but that's about it! But it does go on dry and not greasy.

One of the possible drawbacks of the Garnier Ambre is it has vitamin e in it so it has a greasy finish, but I don't mind that being that I use jojoba oil everyday anyway. I just dab it with some tissue when I finish to absorb some of the oil (and this is coming from someone with pretty oily acne prone skin). And if I need to look more matte, I'll just dust my face with some powder. But at work I don't really care if my face looks oily anyway...

For oily skin, Pumi, this one is matte and is good:

Bioderma Photoderm Max FLUIDE -- Best Sunscreen Protection, UVA Protection, CHEAPEST PRICES ANYWHERE IN THE U.S.!

It has PPD of 26 which is still superior for anti-darkening and anti-ageing, but Bioderma Photoderm MAX Fluide has PPD of 38 = the best.

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

Stiftung Warentest doesn't test the effectiveness of sunscreen or how broad their protection range is, or photostability. They just asses how many of the claims on the packaging are justified, how easy or hard it is to remove the product, does it moisturize or not, is it water-resistant or not. So if a sunscreen is not water-resistant, Stiftung Warentest will rate it low, for example. That says nothing about the actual effectiveness of the UV filters.

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

LNL why are we using chemical sunscreens?. like helioplex etc. . I talked to one of those online agents for netrogena and they told me that physical sun blocks are better like that neatrogena one with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. . plus the anthelios. . there is still tan with helioplex

Re: EUEROPEAN sunblock...

My guess would be that some people just like chemical filters. For me some of them cause reactions on my skin (oxybenzone), others are too greasy (avobeznzone) and some leave a weird metallic finish on the skin (mexoryl and oxybenzone).
Personally I don't trust chemical filters alone (the photostability and absorption thing), so I always go for Zinc Oxide, either alone or mixed with something else (preferably encapsulated). But ZnO leaves a bluish cast on my skin (even Z-cote) and can be drying in high concentrations, but since ZnO doesn't make skin greasy and the finish is not shimmering or anything else, it's fine for me.

Because Helioplex, Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL, are all chemicals that stabilize all the other ingredients in the sunscreen like avobenzone, titanium dioxide, etc. without Helioplex and the Mexoryls your sunscreen wouldnt be stable for long and would breakdown on your skin causing free radicals or becoming ineffective for longer periods of time.
