LNL, you should cast your vote since you are an expert user of HQ/RA.

Carotene cream? I thought our goal was to keep Ma'adam Karenanne away from carotene, carrots, carotinoids and the like.....

Re: Your RA/HQ Results

It's been a little over two weeks and its defintely working. My skin is starting to lighten evenly (my lower cheeks are still darker) and I am about a shade lighter. My skin is glowing. I still flake, especially when I wear makeup. But I'm looking better and better

I know, it's weird isn't it, but here is a cream available off the shelf in Australia too, which is betacarotene which is supposed to fade pigmentation too. I don't know how or if it works.

I have stopped the multivitamins with the betacarotene in them. I can't believe I didn't think of that. I stopped eating carrots ages ago and I was still taking betacarotene! Silly, silly me!! I can't wait until it's out of my system. The MVs I'm taking now have vitamin A in the form of Retinyl Acetate. I hope that's OK.

According to Wikipedia "Carotene is an orange photosynthetic pigment...responsible for the orange colour of the carrot for which it is named..."

But this citation really surprised me:

"Carotenemia or hypercarotenemia is excess carotene, but unlike excess vitamin A, carotene is non-toxic. Although hypercarotenemia is not particularly dangerous, it can lead to an oranging of the skin (carotenodermia), but not the conjunctiva of eyes (thus easily distinguishing it visually from jaundice). It is most commonly associated with consumption of an abundance of carrots, but it also can be a medical sign of more dangerous conditions"

Who knew? I thought only Bugs Bunny consumed that many carrots!

All in all, it looks as if the topical product may have beneficial effects on photosensitvity, and is a powerful antioxidant. Perhaps the protective skin factors and other mechanisms involved in these processes are correlated to the properties that aid in brightening the skin. Just food for thought (that is, any food, but carrots )

Oranging the skin then no wonder why its in some tanning moisturizers.

Re: Your RA/HQ Results

Thanks Karen! ive been on it for a little over a month. it was so hilarious..i was with one of my best friends that i hadnt seen in about a month..and the first thing he said to me was "for some reason you look really different" and i got totally self-conscious and thought my skin must had started peeling and looking disgusting...then i asked what looks different..and he said ive gotten so much lighter and theres a glow to my skin..what a relief it was to hear that! only bad part of RA is all this peeling..cant wait for this purging state to end...it was one of the reasons i was considering switching to FF. Hows ur lightening coming along? i read ur gonna stick it out with the hq/ra on ur face and use the FF on ur body?

Oh I wish I'd get those comments! I'm sure I look much lighter but nobody says anything, which is annoying! I wish someone would just say, 'you look lighter'! Congratulations on your success so far!!

Anyway, I am sticking to HQ/RA on my face. I just can't believe the difference a TINY amount of HC cream once a day makes to my face! All of a sudden, my face is super-smooth, calm and lighter! One week ago it was an angry, dry mess!

I am using my F&F on my lower arms to start with and then my back, which went from being perfect white to a spotty mess from one hour swimming in the surf about five years ago! I hate the sun!!!!! Luckily for me, the rest of my body is fine.

Re: Your RA/HQ Results

For me it's been just two weeks and although my skin is sensitive and easily irritated it looks worlds better than it did or ever has!!! I'm using the Obagi Nu-Derm system + Differen 3% alternating with Retin-A .1%. I've been flaking and a little red in spots but overall the hyperpigmentation has improved immensely. Acne scars are fading and the cystic deep acne that I was consistently plagued with has subsided.
Really thanks to you all for your help. My skin has never even been close to looking this good EVER! Oh, I did a Lactic Acid 40% peel about two weeks ago and use the MUAC Lightening serum as well. I'm starting to work on my chest now. SERIOUS sun damage there!!!!
