| | Sunblock Check!
I just thought I'd make a thread about this! In my area (especially because it's winter) people aren't that concerned about using sunscreen, let alone sunblock! I can't find any at the local grocery stores, and luckily found one at our local Rite Aide. My main concern is if the sunblock I bought is going to really protect me as it should. I just ran out of my good Banana Boat sunblock, which is why I had to run out and use the best option I could find. Buy Rx Suncare Sport Sunblock SPF 50 Online at drugstore.com
I am thinking I'll just end up buying online until summer rolls around, can anyone recommend strong and effective brands?

Hi,
I learned the hard way that all sunblock is not created equal! I wear it religiously year round and a few years ago, while traveling, I ran out and picked up another bottle at a drugstore. I used it for the next few weeks and everybody around me kept commenting on why I was getting so dark!! I was furious and did some online research and found out sure enough, most of the brands are total crap and dont contain the main sunblocking ingredients, even the ones for babies! I googled some of the best brands and found the Neutrogena, which I tried and it is legit. But one name that also kept coming up was one called Melashade and it actually used to be by prescription only, if I'm not mistaken, even though it doesnt have any harmful ingredients. I Googled more for the complete ingredient list and started making it myself and this is what I mainly use but I can always rely on the Neutrogena when I run out! I bet if most people invested in a true functioning sunblock it would improve their lightening progress. Good luck!

Hi everyone I was wondering how much sunscreen should you use at a time?
Also how often do you reapply, just wondering so I can stock up before summer?

Be sure to look at the PPD of the product (indicates UVA protection. UVA = ageing and darkening) as well as the SPF (indicates UVB/burning protection)!!!
This will explain better than I can, and the link includes the right sunscreens to look for if you are serious about preventing ageing and darkening: Skincare Central-All About Sunscreens |

Yep chica! Anthelios XL is a good product too! As long as it contains mexoryl or tinosorb it will be stabilized and not break down on the skin. If it breaks down, it isn't protecting you and could cause free radical damage.

Chica, IKWYM about exxy, but think of it as insurance against wrinkles, darkening and sag!!! Pay up front or pay later!!
This one has a high PPD also and is clear, and ounce for ounce is a good deal: French Cosmetics for Less-Product Details
I have not personally used it, no, but Periwinkle lives in Atlanta and wears it without it sweating off or looking white, and he says he doesn't burn or darken with it! Gymrat lives in Cali and loves it also.
Parasols are a great idea! I take one to Disneyworld when I know I'm going to be standing in lines in the sun forever! Lots of ppl also had the same idea...esp the fair-skinned Asian ladies!

I really love those Neutrogena sunblock I got! It's so much lighter on my face than anything I've had before! I'll be putting up a more in depth review on my blog sometime this week, but just thought I'd give it the thumbs up here first!

Those SS don't have any stable UVA filters to prevent darkening. You need something like mexoryl or tinosorb or helioplex to make sure you're getting the protection you need Skincare Central-All About Sunscreens
This one goes on clear and can be used under foundation. It contains tinosorb to stabilize the chemicals from forming free radicals on your skin: French Cosmetics for Less-Product Details |

With foundation Clinique has a beautiful sunscreen at 25spf that worked very well for me on those makeup/just running around days..... "Superdefense/Age Defense".
I noticed this thread because all of a sudden I am noticing age spots all over my arms. I'm a runner and live in Southern Cali so I was curious about sunscreens I can use for my body. My face is very sensitive even to Nutragena. Thanks for all the previous posts with sunscreen recommendations. Body peels here I come!
