Such Bad LUCK! Ugly Rash after TCA PEEL

Hi everyone! I am having a really bad month, and I hope it ends well. I posted already on here in another forum, about my dilema with the obagi blue peel. In doing the peel, i felt like i wasted so much money, and hardly peeled. Doctor used 15%, and applied two layers. I mainly did the peel to help with some melasma spots developing on my cheeks from birth control use, and also for some sun damage, freckles, etc.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I had done a TCA peel before, 30% and peeled nicely, not quite evenly, but had no side effects what so ever. This time around, the peel, i hardly peeled, my skin broke out like crazy, and because i finished peeling on Saturday, and my follow up was this past monday with the doctor, i did not want to apply any pimple cream or my retin a micro to my face for the acne, until i got the okay.

So in the mean time i used my 100% pure organic aloe vera gel, that i use for everything, and always worked well. But by monday morning, i woke up with this awful rash, that was starting already by sunday.

When i went to my doctor, she was like, oh interesting, tell me where it bothers you, oh interesting. That is all she said!! She isn't a dermatologist, just a cosmetic surgeon, so I don't really expect her to diagnose my skin problem, but she gave me no answers! And i left with no answers! She was no help, and told me to use the retin a again, along with the nu derm system, but my skin is so itchy and red with tons of little bumps!! I don't feel comfortable adding chemicals to this mess!

So I made an appointment, and I am going to my original dermatologist who did the peel for me the first time, and who has been my doctor for more then 13 years. I didn't go to him again, because he does not do the obagi blue peel or carry their products, and i got so obsessed about this BLUE PEEL! Which ladies and guys, just stick to the TCA peel.

Anyways, about the rash. Its itchy, awful. Little bumps everywhere! All in the t-zone! I did a research and actually found this article, saying not to use Aloe Vera gel after a chemical peel!!

Check this....

Adverse reactions to vitamin E and aloe vera preparations after dermabrasion and chemical peel.
Hunter D, Frumkin A.

College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City.
Abstract
Three women and one man aged forty-one to sixty-five years experienced a severe burning sensation following the application of aloe vera or vitamin E preparations to a skin area that had been subjected to a chemical peel or dermabrasion. Subsequently, a severe dermatitis occurred that required hospitalization of one patient and intravenous administration of steroids. The dermatitis abated very slowly in all patients: full recovery took three months or more. One patient resumed the use of vitamin E creams two years after the episode of dermatitis and experienced no adverse effect. Patients undergoing dermabrasion or chemical peel procedures should be cautioned specifically against the use of aloe vera or vitamin E topically in the first weeks after surgery.

Okay, so mine isn't so severe where I need to be hospitalized, but my skin looks awful! I feel like ripping it off, cause it itches so badly! Please has anyone experienced this or have any knowledge what so ever!! I am hoping my dermatologist can help me tomorrow!! I am keeping my fingers crossed!!

I broke out in a very itchy rash after putting TCA on my chest. Little red itchy bumps. I used EMU OIL and it really soothed it.

thanks goatlady! I will give this a try! Do you know why it can cause a rash like that? today i am going to my dermatologist. hopefully, he can at least tell me what the rash is. I hope i didn't develop peri oral dermatitis. but then that is just around the mouth, and won't make sense about the forehead rash.

Just a very sensitive area that is for sure. I think it may be because the skin is so much thinner there. I have not done that any place else I have put the TCA

Could it be exzema? Goatlady I mentioned this in my thread about retin a? Sometimes things can spark exzema. It is red bumpy INSANELY itchy skin. Sometimes it can be scaley looking. almost like a scab that is skin to red colored. Anyway...could be? Sounds like your skin just really had a bad reaction to it. Rest it...I wouldnt use retin a or anything but hydrocortizone neosporin and moisturizer that is extremely gentle.

Hi Lizard, you almost guessed my skin issue. I went to my dermatologist, and told me, i have seborrheic dermatitis. This is the same dermatologist that performed my tca peel 30% years ago, and with him i had no side effects, allergy, etc. But i told him i did the obagi blue peel, and told me, that I could of been allergic to the blue dye that is used, and this lead to an irritation that caused a yeast like fungus on my skin, leading to seborrheic dermatitis.

When you get a blue peel done, your skin is so dark blue like a smurf, but they have you wash most of it off before you leave the office, but a thin color blue still remains.

I remember even after i peeled, the blue color was inside my pores, and it took a few days until my pores looked normal. So now i am dealing with seborrheic dermatitis, and he prescribed me cleocin t pledgets to help with the fungus and acne that has formed, and an oral antibiotic. I hate taking antibiotics, but since i have a fungus on skin its important i take it, to prevent the risk of it getting worse and spreading, but i am going to take a stronger probiotic after my course of antibiotics to make sure my good bacteria is okay.

So the moral of the story. Go with your gut. I should of went to this doctor in the first place to get the peel. He is a great doctor, and i fell for fashion. Thought that the blue peel was so much better, and in the end, is just the name, blue.

oh! did your derma confirm that it's the aloe vera gel that triggered the irritation? i applied vitamin E oil the day after i applied TCA..cause i learned that it is a good remedy for burnt skin. but i stopped when i read that it's best to keep it dry. good thing i read this post. i was planning to resume my vitamin e application once the peeling starts.

Hi, I asked my Dermatologist, if the allergy could of come from the aloe, since I did some research and found that it does in some patients. He told me yes but can't be certain, because whenever you do a chemical peel, even if your skin may not seem like it got a good peel, or look red or pink, your skin is too reacting to anything that goes on your skin, and can become super sensitive. Since I already have such sensitive skin, in this case, my skin reacted so badly to the aloe. So even though I've been using aloe vera for years, in this case, my skin reacted differently.

But this is the interesting thing. I started taking turmeric internally. My mom had purchased some, and i find out it works well for acne. So I started the week I did my chemical peel! Now turmeric is a natural herb, that detoxes the liver!

So he told me, that even though I had a reaction to the aloe, it does not mean I am allergic too it, but simply could mean my body was toxic, and i was having a detox reaction.

I stopped the turmeric, and scared to take that again also. I am a very healthy person, drink wheat grass everyday, no processed foods, etc, so I can't imagine my body being toxic, but then again, if your liver is the major source of where all these toxins go too, and in searching online, a lot of people who did a detox had skin reactions!

I really loved aloe vera, but i am so scared to ever use it again. So for now, i am simply using nothing, but what he told me to use, and so far i don't see much of a difference, but i hope so, soon.

I had very similiar reaction two days ago I started using Obagi and after applying the night treatment the second day I woke up and my face was slightly red. I was told that my face could get a little red so I applied the morning treatment by the middle of the day my face felt hot, broke out in a sever case of dermatitis with small areas of white puss discharge. It feels horrible like my face is on fire. I saw the dermatologist and she took pictures to report it to manufacture, prescribed Keflex 500 mg, Hydrocortisone ointment. I just want to start feeling better

ROSIO77, oh no sounds like my case! Does your dermatologist believe you are allergic to the obagi products? I purchased the nu derm system, and noticed the soap wash is aggravating my skin, and causing even more irritation. I discontinued it, but I am so scared to even use any other product from obagi, but i spent $300 dollars on this system!

I have no clue what to do now! I wish i could get my money back!

My dermatologist does not like obagi, especially the ingredients in the cleanser, with sulphates and other chemical ingredients that aggravate sensitive acne prone skin.

Please let me know how your skin is doing! I am not doing well. My forehead broke out with tons of little pimples and also the corners of my mouth. My derm just gave me an antibiotic and cleocin t.

Yeah..I tend to think that something Really Itchy and raised is a reaction..such as exzema, dermatitis, etc.... When you overdo it with a product it probably wont be that bad. Can be painful and itchy but not Insanely so...

Glad you got it checked out and know what happened.
