The Mother of all Clogged Pores (Help) - Page 2

i'm experiencing exactly the same condition, each and every pore on my nose and the skin alongside it are just clogged, just filled with gunk, when i try to remove it myself (squeezing) the pores just fill up again with gunk. i've stopped squeezing, it doesn't help and it damages the skin. I thought i was the only one suffering from this. I am considering microdermabrasion, only problem is what if the pores just fill up again with gunk? Also, I'm not crazy about the fact that my skin is EXTREMELY oily ANY TIME OF THE DAY but at least i will not age as quickly as dry skinned people. Can someone maybe give some information on effectiveness of microdermabrasion? P.S. I only use Elizabeth Arden products, it gives my skin moisture where other products seem to miss the fact that oily skins need moisture. Most cosmetics companies are absolutely clueless when it comes to skin care

Have you tried cleaning your skin with the Oil Cleansing Method? I know it sounds strange but it works. http://www.skincaretalk.com/diy-skin...ecipe-ocm.html

I agree with LnL! Salycylic acid is a good start. I use Paula's choice Clear 2% BHA toner and it has really helped. It's got the right percentage and PH, too, which is critical to having a BHA (or AHA) work the way it is supposed to. You also need something that stays on your skin-- just washing with a BHA cleanser won't help as much because the BHA product gets washed off!

Too much scrubbing or irritating the skin will not help. I have used Clarisonic too, and saw more improvement, but the best is the salicylic acid toner. You can get samples for less that a dollar, and they have an extra strength 2 % BHA one from the Clear system to help the product penetrate more. BHA can get inside the pore to break up the oil plugs better than a scrub, IMO. I use the BHA in the AM and retinol in the PM, for now.

Salicylic Acid is an overall great item for clearing out those clogged pores and for giving the skin a nice smooth look.

Wow, this may be what I've been trying to find. I thought I'd tried EVERYTHING and spent a fortune--I'm 52--with basically zero improvement and a lot of skin damage. But your solution is new to me. I probably have not heard it yet because no one is getting rich selling what you recommend. thank you I am going to follow your advice exactly. thanks again!

Wash your face, lightly rubbing with a very soapy facecloth every morning and night (any mild soap will do) and then rub the oil over your nose and around the sides in little swirling motions for about 20 minutes. Literally 20 minutes. But, only once a day, preferably at night.

The jojoba is very close chemically (ph balance) to the sebum being produced by your skin (the thick yellow gook in our nose pores) and so it tells the skin to not produce so much because some is already there (its tricky like that). Now, jojoba will extract from the very bottom of your pore ducts, so expect a few whiteheads in the beginning, but once you begin to use it daily you will not have this problem.

You can mix lavendar essential oil or tea tree if you want some antiseptic or aromatherapy properties, but alone the jojoba is fine. Trust me, this works.

After you are done rubbing it around your nose, gently wipe away the excess oil and pore gunk with a facecloth (not soapy) and use some witch hazel to calm down the area. You can skip the witch hazel, and use your fav toner, but nothing too harsh, otherwise your nose will go into an oil producing mode again.

Wash Face with soapy facecloth.
Rub Jojoba Oil around nose, or entire face.
Wash away with no soap.
Tone with Witch Hazel or very mild toner. (no alcohol)

Good Luck!

drugstore.com sells a cheap one that works great.

Oh, and you wont need a seperate moisturizer, either! Yah!

Are you using a good moisturizer? You need to moisturize even if you have oily skin.

If you search for OCM (oil cleansing method) on this site, you'll find many many threads regarding the use of oils and what kinds of oils for a good oil cleanser recipe. I really love my oils - 20% castor, 20% grapeseed and 60% jojoba oils. You'll find a recipe that will work for you. I started with 100% jojoba and switched as I had a chance to work with it. Right now, I use 50/50 shea oil and almond oil moisturizer for night time. I wake up and my skin is super super soft!

I've visited at least twenty or so advising sites, but what always stumps my journey to clear skin is that those sites all assume I suffer from acne along with my clogged pores, which I do not. Maybe a few now and then on the cheeks, a pimple or two on the forehead during PMS, but generally I'm clear.

It's just my nose. I do not exaggerate when I say -every- pore on my nose is clogged, in fact my T zone can't make enough oil to satisfy itself, it's begun spreading until the cheek area nearest to my nose has become speckled with clogged pores, and the area between my eyebrows has lovely little clogged bumps as well. -Every- pore. I turn my face side to side, and you can see every disgusting raised bump in my profile, it's driving me insane to the point where I want to take a needle and gouge every last bit out.

The clogged pores, I do not know if they resemble other clogged pores which mention blackheads, but it literally just looks like oil that has solidified into a yellowish small mound over each pore.

I have tried Biore Ultra Pore Strips, but they only ever get roughly 15% of them, which isn't exactly helpful as the other thousand overpower the impression made by the small patch of clear skin. On that note, the bits that are pulled out by the strips are pointed, semi-translucent and yellow, supporting my assumption it's just oil with maybe some skin. Also, the pores that -are- separated from their living-at-home oil bits, instantly shrink into nothing, just smooth skin, which means I do not have large pores. I just have pores enlarged by oil clogs.

I have used Biore's Exfolliating scrub, alongside the Strips, two times a day for over two weeks. The scrub just smooths the surface of my skin, so that it's soft to run my fingers over (no feeling the oily/grainy texture of every clog bump) but ultimately does not clean the actual pore, or prevent the oils cleaned by my Strip, from refilling. Also tried Neutrogena's something-something as well, and frankly I now think all the "gets deep down in to pores to remove oil" stuff is complete crap.

I have used a blackhead remover, wasn't too sure if that was correct since again, the tips of my clogged pores aren't actually black....and while it was nice in the sense that I could squeeze every pore for all its yellowish cream until the pore shrunk back down to nothing, this only worked along the rubbery tip of my nose. My cheek skin was too soft and giving for me to press, and the skin higher on my nose was too close to the skin. I also did not see how squeezing it with a blackhead remover (metal loop thing) was better than squeezing with my fingers, so I discontinued it for fear of damaging my nose.

I do not eat take out often, less than once a month. I do not exercise often either, but I have a rapid metabolism, and I always eat a healthy combination of meats and vegetables cooked in corn oil, never fried. I drink plenty of milk and water, and generally I feel I am nutritionally (probably not physically) healthier than other 18 year olds. Yet I wake up every morning to find my nose bathing in oil, and I have to periodically wipe it during the day because it keeps producing more.

In short----please help me! I know -noone- who has as badly clogged pores as mine, and while my self-esteem is not crippled by them, I loathe mornings, mirrors, and yea, I confess, getting my face close to anyone in case the empire of oil upon my nose scares the hell out of them.

Although I don't have the bumps you're talking about I do have blackheads, on my nose working slightly into the cheek area and chin ... I've had them since I hit puberty 'till now, I'll be 51 ... since starting with this website I noticed that my blackheads have deminished in a fairly short time and my pores aren't as noticable ... here's my routine .... In the morning I either use Sprectro gel which is NON foaming or Cetaphil, rinse and dab on some lemon juice (either bottled or fresh) to the effected areas, let it dry and apply moisturizer ... at night cleanse wtih OCM (oil cleansing method), google it, it's easy to find ... I use Castor oil and Jojoba oil mixed (approx. 4 nites a week) and I use a Retionl product .... sounds like a lot of work but it's helping, also invest in a microfibre cloth, you can pick them up anywhere ...
hope this helps

Hi, I am new to this forum - so bear over with me if I break some rules - I hope I don't

I would say STOP obsessing over your skin. This will only create more stress and thus make your skin worse. I know as well as anyone how much irritation skin issues can bring, but let it go. My skin only became clear when I started ignoring it. This relaxed my body and shifted my focus to other things in life. And so my skin had the chance to heal itself.

This being said, it is of course essential that you eat adequately healthy foods to cleanse yourself from the inside and take care of your body.

For a skin care regimen I would say "keep it simple". For blocked pores go to sauna or take a facial steam bath in a pot. Then use an all natural clay mask to suck out the impurities from your skin. Wash it off, and use a good moistirizer (did I spell that correctly . I would advice to never use harsh medical products that attempt to "burn" your skin away. Don't do that. Keep it simple

Hi Constantin, Your advice sounds like me when women ask me "how do you stay so thin?" I'll always say "stop obsessing over your weight! That works for me!" Maybe I'll start tempering that reply now that I know how it feels . . .

And I've heard your method before and I have certainly tried just backing off. Makes sense. Just low key cleansing twice a day. With the the facial steam baths, both self inflicted and professionally done. (btw This can lead to a lot of broken veins in your skin as you age, so be careful!) For a few weeks even, you know, to give it time. Relax about it, don't even watch the mirror. Result: My skin pores went from really clogged to hideous. Unbelievebly huge and hideous. Ugly and dirty looking.

My pores are not just clogged but imbedded and unwilling to give up that clog. Masks? feel nice, do nothing.

I would advice everyone to not be so hard on their skin. Poor skin being verbally and physically abused

Try this: Touch yourself all over. Real soft. Slide your fingertips over your skin. Over your forehead and your cheeks and your nose and your body. Feel it deeply. Breathe. Feel your body. Feel your skin. Make it tingle and your body shiver. You may whisper how much you like your skin and your body. Take your time.

Your skin expands when you feel pleasure, and contracts when you feel aversion. Feel pleasure more

I totally understand this problem! This is what lead me to use a toner and it did nothing but wreck my skin. I started using a mask (Boots No. 7) and you can see it pull everything out of your pores, but alas, the ones on my nose are still monstrous, though I got the mask just recently. Part of my nose problem is because I wear glasses, so oil builds up on my nose quite readily.
Though I haven't used it (yet) I would suggest checking out information on the oil cleansing method that forum members are raving about. It seems like it could be really effective at unclogging pores.

OCM is great for helping remove the sebum from the pores. BHA is a good product to use to help clear out the inside of the pore, and keep it clear. I use a 5% BHA, however, I would advise starting at a lower percentage, to see how your tolerance of BHA is.

Exfoliating once a week should be fine, too much of anything is bad.

I use a cream cleanser from neutrogena for combinaion skin, and a handheld exfoliating pad EVERY TIME I SHOWER. I know it cant be good but i just dont want to deal with the bumps on my face every day ,and sometimes ill get my face really hot and use a mint julip mask and that will get almost all of them gone for a week or so and then they come back.
so sometimes ill get a facial and the lady will have a hell of a time trying to do "extractions" where she will try to squeeze the crud out of every pore and my nose becomes soooo swollen. its painful.
i want to go to a dematologist but im afraid it will cost to much and im a single waitress, so its not an option for me at this point.
I guess i will go out and try to oil rubbing in the nose but i have sensitive skin and wont the oil just clog my pores???
and those biore strips? HA! they dont work AT ALL!!! not for me anyway.
my boyfriend pointed them out when we first got together. AKWARD!
Help!

Wait what!? When did I make this post? This sounds EXACTLY like me! I've always laughed at the fact that I have my dad's nose, identical big cloged pores and all, strawberry nose is what i call it. I've had big huge blackheads on my nose since 7 years old and there still there can't get rid off them they absolutely love me. Tried everything to get rid of them nothing does the trick. Sauna helps so i can extract them but then next day they are there again! Ever since I moved in with my boyfriend hes obscessed with squeezing my nose and seeing the gunk that comes out of my pores "eeww" he says! Jaja but now hes gettting them too because he never takes care of his skin since he thinks that since he was blessed with blemish free skin he simply does not have to maintain it.

Like everyone said, you can do too much to your skin and irritate it, making things worse. That sounds like way too much scrubbing!!
The OCM is the best thing I have found for cleaning nose pores, and it is cheap! You can get the oils at a grocery store and a little goes a long way. I can only do it 2 x week, but it really helps. If you aren't on Retin a, then the Paula's choice BHA toner (regular or extra strength, in her Clear line), is great.
It is a good strength( 2%) and at the proper PH to work.
You can order a sample for less than $1-- get a few to try and see how you like them.

Those Pore strips don't work, IMO. It's not you, it's them! Hope this helps.

Hi, i'm new here to this board.

Iv been reading this thread for a week now and wanted to join.

I always have clogged nose pores and hardly ever get facial acne.
I'm not sure if I have rosacea? because my nose turns red very easily and is always blotchy/clogged over producing pores...it has lowered my self esteem for many many years.

I started buying facial cleanser from Australia...i like it because its all natural its called, 'Miessence' because I believe a lot of chemical stuff stuff just destroys our skin.
but its just so damned expensive...

I took advice from this thread, and been using the Jojoba oil... i started using it correctly tonight... i washed my face with the sensitive Miessence cleanser, than wash away and use a rag, than rub the Jojoba oil all over my face and rinse away with water..

i'm glad this thread is becoming more active now...

where can i buy the OCM? does wild by nature have a lot of the stuff everyone is mentioning? like the facial rag? I need something better because my nose gets soo red :/

I also started writing acne laser treatment centers...i got a reply today like this..

"The Isolaz Skin Rejuvenation treatments resolve sun damaged skin, brown spots and tiny broken capillaries associated with rosacea.

Rated as one of the 3 hottest products at the 2007 American Academy of Dermatology conference, Isolaz is powered by a breakthrough technology called Photopneumatics which is the only therapy in the world that combines a vacuum and painless broadband light to deep cleanse and purify your pores from the inside out. "

so ive been considering this too....its just so frustrating how my nose is always red irritated and clogged noticeably ..it just really destroys my self esteem..
