Sheep LOOK Lactic Lotion

I found this from another DIY forum today...................

Ingredients:
2.5 tsp 88% lactic acid
1/4 cup + 2 tsp of CeraVe or preferred base lotion
3 big drops germaben or 6 small ones (if you have one of those 1 ml droppers it is 6)

If you don't have the germaben or other suitable preservative, then just make small amounts and use quickly (and don't stick your fingers in the jar!) Recipe can be doubled and possibly tripled but don't go further than that...since I rounded some numbers the percents could get off by multiplying TOO much.

I used a mixing boat, but a small dish with a stirring stick should work fine to make sure it is mixed well before putting it into a container.

Eden what are your thoughts on this?

LIGHT from that same forum.....................

If you mix 88% lactic (that is typically what you find for purchase) with CeraVe in the below amounts you will get a 12% lactic lotion with a pH around 3 to 4.

That looks like it would work, goatlady. The lactic acid I have is 90%.

Which forum was it, goatlady?

Lydia, the website doesn't say what percentage it is. It does say that you can use it up to 10%, but it appears to recommend 1 - 5%. You should probably email them and ask. Honestly, I'd be skeptical if they told you it's 100% lactic acid.

2.5 tsp is about 15% of the above formula.

Thanks for the name of the forum, goatlady. Never heard of it.

Thank goatlady!
Is there any requirements for the lotion base or does any work?

I would think any base would work as long as you use the required amounts of Lactic Acid
post #15 of 597
Thanks goatlady! I just wanted to make sure the lactic acid didn't need any other ingredient for it to work/be stable. It would seem that it doesn't need anything else.

I use the Am-Lactin lotion that is 12% and love the stuff but it is expensive. I prefer to make it myself at a lower cost. Once I am finished with my bottle of Am-lactin I will be making this possibly I hope with my own base lotion.

Goatlady,
Thanks so much for posting this. I've been looking for a recipe to doctor-up a pre-made base lotion. Do you know if I could also add an SPF ingredient to the mix as well?
Thanks Goatlady for this recipe. Do you know how much of the lactic 88% and germaben is needed for a larger amount of lotion like a 6 or 8 oz size? And does it need to be refrigerated?

I suppose you can just double or triple the recipe for more. The germaben is a preservative so you won't need to put it in the fridge. Eden may be able to better give you directions on the recipe amounts. She's been at that a lot longer than I have. I just started my quest into DIY

Eternal, the OP recipe is approximately 15% lactic acid and 85% lotion, so for 8 oz total, you need 6.8 oz lotion and 1.2 oz lactic acid.
