5 Herbs That Help Promote Hair Growth

Aloe Vera gel: Aloe vera contains antibacterial and antifungal properties which help a lot in keeping a check on dandruff. Take some aloe vera gel and apply it on your scalp for around 30 minutes and later wash it off. It helps in blood circulation and also fights against alopecia.

Neem leaves paste: Take some neem leaves and boil them for 30 minutes. Now, crush them and make a paste. After this, apply this paste on your scalp for around an hour and then rinse it off later. Neem helps in fighting hair thinning and greying.

Amla: Amla works as a hair tonic and is an essential ingredient for hair care. It does not just help in strengthening roots of hair, but also enrich hair growth. It also prevents dandruff and premature greying of hair.

Ginseng: Ginseng helps in stimulating blood circulation, thereby promoting healthy hair follicles. It can be consumed either as supplements or can be applied to the scalp with some hair oil.

Rosemary: Rosemary can stimulate hair growth. Rosemary herb extractions, when applied over the scalp, are known to stimulate hair-bulbs and help prevent premature baldness.

Tea Tree Oil For Hair Growth
This Will Make Me Use Tea Tree Oil Even More Now!
Sharing What I've Been Reading.

About Tea Tree Oil?
It is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, commonly known as Narrow-leaved Tea-tree which is native to the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. Tea tree oil is a natural antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-infection oil. Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is very good for the skin and also soothes patients of sinusitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, tuberculosis and viral or bacterial infections. Moreover, the benefits of tea tree oil includes its effectiveness to influence and deal with certain hair-related conditions. Tea tree oil is primarily antiseptic in nature and is a recommended bactericide and fungicide. It is therefore that this oil is often used to make tea tree shampoo as it readily heals scalp irritations and infections.

Is Tea Tree Oil Good For Hair?
YES! Many hair problems such as dandruff, cradle cap, baldness, psoriasis, and lice can be solved with the use of this oil.

Tea Tree Oil Benefits on Hair

It is able to unblock the hair follicles and thus, eliminates dandruff.
It moisturizes the hair and scalp.
It treats cradle cap.
It prevents hair loss.
It treats lice.
It is very effective for hair growth.

Add a few drops of Tea tree oil to your regular shampoo to treat hair problems like persistent dandruff, itchy-scalp and even prevent head-lice. Massage it in, leave it on for 5-7 minutes and rinse off.

My hair itch more when I was relaxed... And I get really bad dandruff too... But now since I'm natural never seem to have that problem. The dandruff isn't as bad as it was when I was relaxed tho. But this would be very nice to use for other reasons.. Especially for the moisturizing the hair and scalp. And the prevention of hair loss.

Hair Porosity
High Porosity Hair Information Sharing On What To Do If Your Hair Has
High Porosity!! Ways To Treat It.
Treating high porosity hair

Protein treatments
Incorporating protein treatments in your regimen is important for high porosity hair to gain strength and not break as frequently. Oftentimes, hair that is highly porous is a result of damage so if you haven’t incorporated protein, it's time to start. Highly porous hair has holes in the hair shaft and protein temporarily fills those holes and strengthens the hair. It’s like patching a tire. Protein treatments are usually advised to be monthly. For an extra boost, you can also use light protein treatments every few weeks in between the monthly heavy protein treatment. Remember that protein is not a moisturizer and should not be treated as such.

Deep conditioning
This should be done following every wash. Remember to slather on generous amounts and heat it up! If you do not have a hooded dryer, do not fret. Covering your hair with plastic cap or a warm towel for 15 min. will suffice. I often leave my deep conditioner on overnight and rinse in the morning. Find a thick deep conditioner like Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque. I love this because it really brings my hair back to life.

Use Heavy Butters/Oils
Heavy products will help seal in the moisture that your hair soaks up without releasing it back to the air. Shea butter and olive oil are both heavy and great for sealing. Since olive oil is one of the few oils that penetrate the hair shaft, this would be a great option for sealing.

Heavier products with natural oils
Heavy products will reinforce your sealing from the butter or oil and help compensate for the protective layer that's missing. Make sure to check the back of your products to look for heavy oils like olive, castor, or avocado oil in the first five ingredients.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) and Aloe Vera
Both of these will adjust your hair’s pH balance. Rinsing with the slightly acidic ACV will help flatten the cuticle and seal in the moisture. Some naturals add aloe vera gel or aloe vera juice to their leave-in conditioners or spray bottle solutions.

Other Ways To Test Your Hair Porosity
It's Always Good To Know!!! Here's Other Ways Of Testing Your Hair Porosity.

Test 1: Wet your hair. Before you start to shampoo your hair, notice how long it takes for your hair to actually feel soaked and fully saturated with water. Hair that “wets” easily is typically porous. If your hair takes quite some time to actually get fully wet, your hair is less porous. (Or your hair could be coated with heavy oils and other products!) As your hair dries (air dry), note how quickly the drying takes place. Porous hair dries very quickly, and in some cases, the ends of the hair may be dry before your body is fully dried! Hair that takes longer to dry is typically less porous. On fully dried hair, note whether your hair feels rough and tangles easily. Hair that “catches” on itself, does not move well, and tangles easily is usually porous, or is in need of a trim.

Test 2: Gently hold strands of your dry hair between your index finger and thumb, and then slowly slide your fingers along the length of the strand. You should be moving from the scalp to the ends. If you feel an overall uneven texture as you move along down the shaft, your hair is slightly porous.

Test 3: Take a few strands of “harvested” hair (shed hair from your comb, hair brush, etc.) and place them in a bowl of water. If the hair sinks in less than a minute or two, it is porous. The sooner your hair sinks, the more porous it is. If only one part of the strand sinks, you have a spotty porosity problem. This is not uncommon.

7 Oils For Natural Hair Care

Emu Oil

Emu oil is an all-natural oil obtained from the inedible parts of the emu, a flightless bird related to the ostrich. Aboriginal tribes in Australia have been taking advantage of the healing powers of emu oil for ages. Emu oil has an uncanny ability to cause cellular regeneration in the skin, making it excellent for burns and scars and even the effective reduction of wrinkles and the renewing of elasticity in the skin.

Because it is hypoallergenic, antibacterial and rich in beneficial fatty acids, hair can also benefit greatly from regular use of emu oil treatments, and actually experience nearly three times its normal cellular activity. Emu oil can help hair appear livelier, healthier and be more resilient to environmental and hormonal stresses.

Since it is also anti-fungal and antibacterial, emu oil helps to break down buildup and residue at the scalp and roots, which can increase volume and manageability. The nourishing properties of the oil make it an ideal ingredient for conditioners.

Yarrow Oil

You can tell yarrow oil apart by its deep blue color. Add it to your shampoo and massage the scalp as it is known to regenerate the scalp and promote healthy hair growth.

Argan Oil

Women in Morocco have been using argan oil for generations to achieve more youthful, healthy skin. It reduces inflammation and redness, improves hydration, and can even been used to treat scars and acne.
You can also use argan oil as a hair treatment for deep conditioning or as a pre-styling product-it restores shine to hair and helps mend split ends. It’s packed with twice as much Vitamin E as other oils so it’s also amazing for your nails and cuticles.

Tamanu Oil

Tamanu oil is a nut-based oil with many known uses from reducing inflammation and irritation to helping with hair and skin regeneration, making it a great topical treatment for acne, sunburns, and scarring. Use on thick, dry hair as a nourishing treatment before or after shampooing. You’ll find that this oil is a little pricey because the Tamanu nut tree only grows in the Polynesian islands, so dilute it in a carrier oil like jojoba.

Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil is rich in essential fatty acids that strengthen the hair and keep it nourished and lubricated, and the vitamin E it contains also conditions and nourishes, while the proteins in avocado oil can fortify your hair.

Applying avocado oil directly into your hair not only keeps the hair strong and beautiful, it is also beneficial if you are experiencing dandruff or scalp psoriasis. Avocado oil acts as a natural sunscreen, and helps to protect your hair and scalp from the harmful UV rays of the sun.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is a light oil that locks moisture inside the skin so cells have enough water to work efficiently. It can be used to nourish the scalp and hair without leaving the buildup of other oils that weigh the hair down.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Jamaican Black Castor Oil has a traditionally been known as an all-purpose healing oil. Though it can be used to treat dietary ailments as well as to treat various skin disorders, it is now most popularly used in hair care.

As an unrefined form of castor oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil is very rich in nutritive properties. Jamaican Black Castor Oil is processed differently from usual versions of castor oil- it is made by manually roasting and then grinding the castor beans. Then the beans are heated up and the oil extracted from the crushed beans. It’s the unique roasting process that gives Jamaican Black Castor Oil its distinct dark color.

Many people turn to Jamaican Black Castor Oil to aid in hair growth. It has been proven to be extremely effective in this because it increases the blood flow to the scalp while also supplying nutrition to the hair follicles.

Because JBCO is rich in vitamin E and omega 6 fatty acids, it is also excellent for treating damaged, dry, and brittle hair by providing intense nourishment to the hair and scalp. It also acts as a humectant, so it attracts and locks moisture into the hair shaft.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil can treat and prevent dandruff and dissolves any build-up from hair products or from other sources that has accumulated in the pores of the scalp. In its all natural form, it is also safe to use on eyebrow and eyelashes to thicken their volume as well.

Thanks @HippieNerd for post 26 I really like that. NATURAL HAIR VS THE IGNORANCE. What is moisturizing spritz and how does it help natural dry hair?
You're welcome! MS is to keep your hair moisturized it's something I like to do myself. Yes, it can help with dry hair. Also do you know your hair porosity? Take the test to figure out if your low, medium, high or normal! This is good way to know where your hair stands and to find the proper products to work with your hair porosity. Put some water in a bowl and put a few strings of your hair in that bowl. If your hair sinks it's high porosity, if your hair floats it's low porosity. I've put information on the next page to check for your hair porosity type. Give it a go and see what your porosity is.

#47 ·
I'm high porosity as well and yeah it keep my hair moisturized. But I also do the LOC method too and that seem to do the trick as well too. To do the MS you have to get a spray bottle and put part water, part glycerin shake it up very well before each use. What's your hair type? 3c, 4a, 4b and so on.. If that's what your mentioning about hair type.

Coconut Oil Is Beneficial

Coconut oil can be used for dandruff! Just apply it directly to your scalp and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes before rinsing or shampooing.

It's good to give your hair that shine it's missing! Before you apply, make sure the basics are covered meaning your hair is clean and free of build-up.

Can be used for as a deep conditioner! Massage it into clean, damp hair and let it stay on for at least 30 minutes.

Good for detangling! Start with wet hair and add some oil to help comb through those kinks and coils without the teeth-gritting frustration.

Good for frizz! Dab some on your fingers and lightly apply to your hair for a quick fix.

Can be used for styling! Make sure hair is wet before styling and skip the curl-hardening hairspray in favor of a softer, silkier option.

Great sealant! Rub a little coconut oil between your fingers and lightly apply it directly to your trouble areas.

Coloring Your Hair Without Bleaching??
I was reading about coloring natural hair, without bleaching! By using any color eyeshadow (Maybelline's color tattoo cream eyeshadows) ... Seems interesting far enough, that I'm thinking about giving it a try. Have so many unused eyeshadows, that I've never bother to use (have way too many eyeshadows). Why not put them to great use. You must do it on dry hair tho!!! And you don't need that much to add the color, but just remember that if you touch it will rub off. Just to have a different funky color in the hair each day. Seems like fun... Not to mention just to highlight certain areas of the hair anyway, should really give the hair a nice cool look. You don't have to worry about any drying to the hair.

Alternatives For Eco Styler Gel
1. Obia Curl Enhancing Custard

Price: $15/12oz
The first time I used Obia Curl Enhancing Custard, I fell in love. Thick and jelly-like, it glides on easily and encourages the clumping of coils, kinks and curls. Obia Curl Enhancing Custard is free from mineral oil, petroleum, silicone, paraben, and alcohol. It’s based in olive, grapeseed, and argan oil. Although it is similar in consistency to Eco Styler, the Curl Enhancing Custard leaves hair shiny, defined, and soft — no crunch or dryness here! It works wonders on slicking edges too!

2. Wonder Curl Get Set Hair Jelly

Price: $15/8oz
Whenever I think of Wonder Curl Get Set Hair Jelly, “hold for days,” comes to mind. This aloe based defining jelly will hold your hair in place, whether it be for a wash and go, twist-out, or slicking back a bun. Get Set Hair Jelly is potent, so a little goes a long way! With this stuff, you’re guaranteed to reach *at least* day 4 hair! Get Set Hair Jelly is mineral oil, petroleum, silicone and paraben free.

3. Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker

Price: $22/12oz
For ladies with finer hair, Camille Rose Naturals Curl Maker will provide hold and definition without making your tresses do a disappearing act. Based in glycerin and enriched with coconut oil and other extracts, Curl Maker provides a medium hold without drying the hair. It isn’t super thick, so it spreads easily through the hair to provide shine and definition. Silicone, mineral oil, petroleum, paraben, and drying alcohol free.

4. TIGI Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier

Price: $18/5.07oz
Curls Rock Amplifier is expensive. It has some pretty wack ingredients. I can’t quite see how the ingredients justify the price point. But I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face — it works. Well. So much so that it’s my #1 go-to wash and go product. I can’t afford to use it for every single wash and go, but when I do use it, my curls last for more than 5 days every time. So I guess in that way, it might justify itself price-wise. If you’re interested in ditching the gels and trying a cream with a strong hold, Curls Rock Amplifier is the one you want to check for. It adds shine, definition, and hold while gliding through and coating the hair easily. Free of drying alcohols, mineral oil, and petroleum.

5. tgin Twist and Define Cream

Price: $15/12oz
Tgin Twist and Define Cream is a close second to the Curls Rock Amplifier. It provides shine, hold, definition, and smoothness. Based in coconut oil, this cream-based styler goes on smooth, has nice slip, and is versatile enough for twistouts, braidouts, and wash and go’s. Free of silicones, mineral oil, petroleum, parabens, and drying alcohols.

6. As I Am Smoothing Gel

Price: $8/8oz
Another one of those thick in consistency gels, As I Am Smoothing Gel works great for slicking back styles. In addition to sleekness, it will provide a nice amount of hold and definition on wash and go styles. The aloe-based gel helps coils, kinks, and curls clump, and promotes shine while being free of drying alcohol, silicones, parabens, petroleum, and mineral oil.

7. Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel

Price: $23/8.5oz
Although a little pricey, Ouidad’s most popular gel is just that for a reason. For ladies that will be battling humidity this spring and summer, a gel that keeps the moisture at bay without drying the hair out is a necessity. It has a serum-esque consistency, and goes on the hair really easily with tons of slip. It helps prevent frizz, add shine, and enhance definition. Free of mineral oil, petroleum, and drying alcohols.

8. Soultanicals Afro Gel-lato

Price: $13/8oz
If you love Curl Blaze Hair Glaze by Soultanicals, get ready to kick that love up a notch. For ladies who aren’t particularly a fan of glycerin in styling products, this one is for you. The brand new Afro Gelato provides a touchable hold, shine, and smoothness while encouraging curl, kink, and coil clumping. Based in aloe and tons of other botanicals, Afro Gelato is formulated specifically for wash and go hair. Free of silicones, petroleum, parabens, drying alcohols, and mineral oil.

9. Kurlee Belle Jelle Coconut Styling Gel

Price: $14/8oz
This coconut oil based gel provides light, touchable hold and amazing shine and definition. It has a thick Eco Styler-like consistency, but with none of the crunch or dryness. It is perfect for clumping curls, kinks, and coils, and achieving bigger day-1 hair. It also works great to create sleek updos and tame edges. Free of silicones, parabens, mineral oil, petroleum, and drying alcohols.

10. Wet Line Xtreme Gel

Price: $3/17.64oz
If some of the previously mentioned prices are a little too high, this might be right up your alley. Wet Line Xtreme Gel clearly gives you the most bang for your buck. You won’t get any fancy botanical extracts or promises of being all-natural, but you will get hold, sleekness, and definition. Free of silicones, parabens, petroleum, mineral oil, and drying alcohols.

11. Elasta QP Feels Like Silk Liquid Gel

Price: $5/12oz
Another cost-effective option is Elasta QP Feels Like Silk Liquid Gel. When used in moderation (i.e. don’t be heavy-handed), the smoothness, shine, and definition is right on target for ladies who hate the crunch feeling of some gels. Be warned though — this one contains a lot of glycerin. So if your hair can’t handle that, I suggest staying away. But for normal/low humidity areas, this is a perfect, inexpensive (albeit awkwardly blue colored) option for any number of styles that require hold or definiton. Fun fact: this was my definer of choice back in the day (before I really screwed up my hair, and before all these natural hair products were available). Free of drying alcohols, mineral oil, silicones, and petroleum.

Summer Tips!
This A Must Read Tipster
MOISTURIZE!!! If you live in hot climates!! Moisturize your hair as often as needed. Keep a spray bottle (distilled water or bottle water) with you on hand. So you can spray your hair and keep it moist. During the summer heat.

Extremely Dry Hair??!!

If you have very dry hair.. Try doing a oil rinse on your hair. You can do this in the shower, if you don't want to do it in your ******* sink. You can use any oil like: olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil. Or you can use all three together on your hair, after you shampoo your hair. And condition as usual your hair will feel so soft afterwards.

Spritz And Seal!!!

Spritz and seal is a good way to keep your hair moisturize and prevent breakage! You can use distilled water, alove vera juice and avocado oil or argan oil! Make sure to use any oil like: jojoba oil, castor oil, almond oil or a thick butter like shea butter. It's many butters out here you can really choose from. To seal in the moisture! This is really good if you have any kind of braids in or twists.

Leave In!!!

Leave is very important.. After being exposed to the heat and sun this will replenish moisture in your hair. Do a deep conditioning treatment every 2weeks or as needed to rejuvenate your hair.

Co -Wash In Between Shampoo Sessions!!

If your hair is short and you want to do co-washing daily! That would be a great thing for short hair. But you can do a co-wash mid-week to keep your hair rehydrating.

Get Rid Of Dead Ends

Split, damaged and dead ends will not retain moisture at all. Say goodbye and tirm them off.. No need to keep them!

Detox !!

You can use a clarifying shampoo! So many to choose from.. Pick one or if you already have one. Make sure you use it to rinse out build up from all the oils/butters you've been using on your hair.

After Swimming!

To clarify your hair after you went for a swim. Wash your hair that same day with clarifying shampoo to remove chlorine or salt (which can cause dry/damage hair) leaving your hair brittle and fading color.

Shrinkage!!?

Shrinkage isn't as bad as you think! Shrinkage can protect the hair from losing moisture. If you still don't like shrinkage which a lot of naturals DON'T! You can always use a heatless method for stretching the hair.

Use Products That Stand Against Humidity

Best products for humidity is to get products that can stand up against it! It's many on the market.. As you'll have to find which one will work best for your hair.
