2022 HAND THREAD

Hey guys, thought I’d make a hand lightening thread for 2022 so please feel free to share your current regimen and products to help each other out.
I decided to do my very first TCA (25%) peel on my hands. I applied it to the sides of my knuckles as my skin seems to have thickened and darkened a little in these areas (I’m guessing it’s a mixture of friction due to weight lifting at the gym and also general neglect as I haven’t been applying spf on my hands whilst using exfoliating body lotions).

It’s been a week and my skin has 90% peeled. I have been moisturising my hands as much as I can throughout the day and have also been applying spf 50

Here is my current hand routine:

AM:
1) apply Glysolid cream to slightly damp hands
2) follow up with SPF 50 sunscreen from Bea Skincare
3) reapply Vaseline’s dark spot corrector cream when indoors (spf 20)
4) Top up with Anthelios spf 50 sun fluid before heading outside

PM:
1) apply cocoa butter oil to damp hands
2) follow up with Glysolid cream
3) occlude with cotton gloves

Tonight I think I’ll switch it up and apply pure lanolin to my hands before occluding with latex gloves!

Once my skin has finished peeling, I will be incorporating a lightener in the PM. I’m not sure what to use at the moment so some suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I tried everything under the sun to lighten my knuckles, it was my problematic area
creams, peels, mixes, natural solutions
nothing seem to work

the only thing that finally worked for me was dodo oil on my knuckles followed by g&g cream

my knuckles are almost the same color as the rest of my hand huge improvement

oh yeah
tbh I bulk bought a lot of stuff before officially start lightening
like I have 2-3 years worth of stuff
so I bought the g&G before it was discontinued
I'm recently opened my first jar, and am only using it for the knuckles

Thanks for starting this thread. I have been battling PIH on both hands. I have tried tons of stuff without any luck( my hand at the moment -see attached). I have had moments of respite but the nature of what I do requires a lot of hand-washing/hand sanitisation so when it looks dark and unsightly , I try to rectify it with peels mainly yellow peeling oil and lactic acid. As it stands I am now left with the current situation.

I have resorted to gluta IV +vitamin c and had two sessions so far, second being today. I don't want to lighten, I just want my hands to blend so it doesn't look like it belongs to someone else 😄😄😄 Not sure what the strength of both is but I am just so desperate to put an end to what has been two issh years of this nightmare. I stopped all topical in the hopes that everything will eventually blend in so I have redarkened considerably but the hands arent cooperating. People keep saying I look tired and should get some rest 😫 😄😄😄 but I don't, i just look darker, I have redarkened so i look totally different thats what it is. I have understood from the lady who does my IV that I can use topical but only if it has fruit acids only, no hydroquinone so please I would be grateful for suggestions. Happy to answer any questions re the IV ( the little I know so far). Thanks 😊

Hi Gymrat

Thanks I qppreciate your response. That's something I would be more than willing to try. Please could you recommend a lactic acid lotion? I am based in the UK so would be most grateful if it would be one I can easily purchase. Much appreciated. 🙏

Hi Guys,

Thought I would give some info here as I battled with my knuckled for YEARS! and a lot of trials and error and I know what works for me. I was part of SCT years ago on a diff account but now I am re-lightening my skin as my hands are...getting better. Here's my progress pics to show...

Hand before:

Hand now:

What destroyed it? Chemical peels lol, that thing is the devil if you do too much

Anyway here's my regimen

The ordinary 30% AHA/BHA acid 2x a day (morning and night) - its gentle, but if used 2x a day everyday for 10mins each time, it'll micro-peel within a week without causing PIH.

ALSO previously pink peeling oil worked for me - I got it from Rixari but idk where else to find it, I did 2x a day for 2 days and it did the same job - I redid again 2 weeks after healing

Hydroquinone (etsy, ebay is your friend if you're in UK) - the very thing that causes the issue for some people. I applied this 2x a day (mixed with 0.5% tretinoin I got from Spain) and did this after the peeling treatment everyday. You said no HQ...so maybe Alpha arbutin will help but it will be MUCH slower!

This took me....1.5-2 months? I am still working on it, its not perfect but the sun can take you back to square 1 in one second (summer time is hard!!).

I made the ugly mistake of using 60% GA on my knuckled (I ran out of the ordinary peel) and it made my hands a little darker!!! so now I'm reusing the ordinary again to get my hands back.

So I wear UPF50+ hand gloves (fingerless) during the day, I get strange looks from people sometimes but I had stranger looks when my hands were the before pic so, choose your devil.

This might work on you, or not. Hopefully it does! Now I am working on my body - I was a NC44.4 last year (LOVED IT) but my body wasn't even, so I took a break and redarkened. Now I'm using GA/LA 17% lotion to exfoliate before I start my lightening journey again.

Great progress tbh. You’ve come a long way. How did you buy tretinoin from spain? I’m also in the uk and desperately need to buy some as I’m about to run out

Thank you! In Spain you can literally walk into any pharmacy and ask for it and they give it to you - no prescrip needed (only 1 at each pharmacy tho, so I waked into 5 and got 1 from each lol)
In the UK I think you can try ordering from here Retino-A Cream (Tretinoin) - 0.05% (20g Tube) - United Pharmacies (UK)

I haven't bought from there yet tho but I bookmarked it for when I need more otherwise you need a derm prescription which is almost impossible here

How many shades lighter did it make you (at least the first week when you started using it twice daily)?
I feel like my skin lightens a bit every time and before when I used a lot of acids daily I noticed my skin becoming much lighter in certain areas of my face before but I stopped since I got scared and skin lightening wasn't my goal before but it is now so I'd try it again if it works lol

Heya sorry I only saw this,
I’d say half a shade when I eventually peeled. I was using HQ+RA in conjunction though after I did the peel 2x daily. It’s a tiring process but it worked for me. The exfoliation is key to showing the new skin

Hmmm be careful with this, I tried piment doux for dark inner thighs, it lightened a bit and gave thick torn stretch marks, don't let it touch any other part of your body

Happy new year everyone.
I thought I'd come back with an update and thank everyone as well.

Xiv, thanks for the piment doux advice, I tried it as a last resort because I had reached my wits end with trying everything the majority of which gave temporary results.

I tried the piment doux, it peeled nicely , I observed that it didn't peel in sheets, it was a gradual process over close to two weeks and once the peeling process was done, the revealed skin matched the rest of my body( if not even lighter, cos I had to keep using shea butter to achieve some tan for uniformity). My hands have remained mostly clear since then. I have not had to resort to using piment doux again, because I haven't had the need to
although I still keep a bottle or two to hand just in case. My hands look much better now, they are not perfect or spotless but compared to what it used to be in the past, I am content with how they look.
My confidence is restored and I don't have to necessarily hide my hands. I have had people who knew how bad my hands were ask me how I turned my hands around after trying virtually everything, including going to a highly reputed dermatologist who told me nothing could be done and I had to live with my two toned hands for the rest of my life( I cried for the most part of my two hour train journey back home). So being able to achieve some level of normalcy is a big deal to me.

I have attached some pics, p.s I am currently in a hot weather region and been spending alot of time outdoors(something I couldn't have tried one year ago) so a few areas have darkened quicker but those were always my problem spots anyway.amd trying to get rid of them was the genesis of my hand issues. As soon as I get back to my base, i intend to spot treat the darker than usual areas , not with peels this time, just exfoliating and moisturing and i know it will blend eventually.I am pleased and equally grateful to everyone who has supported me re my hand ordeal. Thanks alot and many blessings 🙏
