can anybody recommend a good make up base/primer that leaves oily skin shine free and matte all day or any products that come close.

Thanks.
My skin gets very oily after I wear foundation. can someone pls recommend a good makeup base or primer which helps control shine on the face? I have tried simple oil balancing moisturiser but it doesn't seem to work for me

Mineral makeups are the best for just about any skin type. I love ID Bare Esentuals. Its in a powder base, but has no talc, its all minerals from the earth. It has a product called mineral vail which matts the skin and will help control the oil. Also, you are probably not using the right products for your skin. Quite often oily skin people will overstrip thier skin with strong products and the skin panics because it is losing it protective barrier and it will produce more oil. Its a endless cycle. Go to a good esthetician or beauty therapist and get some good advice. They can turn you onto the products that will help

Thanks for ur reply Gerogia. But when I use mineral make up after moisturising my face, they tend to become cakey. is there any reason for this? i suppose I am not wearing my make up right as I have heard so many good reviews on mineral make up...

thanks.

Mineral makeup is very different from the traditional powder make ups, it has to be layered very finely on the skin. It cant go directly from the pot to your face. As you dispense from the pot or cake the excess has to be shaken off. It is meant to be applied very sheer and if you want heavier coverage, you put on more layers. I hope this makes sense. Best thing to do is find a mineral makeup store or go to a spa that has mineral makeup and have someone explain it to you. Also, I believe the ID has CDs you can view. If you live where there is an Ulta or Sephora, someone there should be able to help. Also, again if you are getting caking, you may be using an inappropriate moisturizer for your skin or are using too much. You also need to wait a awhile for your moisturizer to soak in before appliying makeup. I apply mine then doing something else, like my hair or brush teeth, then do makeup

Thank you for such helpful tips
I will pop in Debenhams tomorrow and ask for some help with their mineral makeup as they do have bare minerals range.

I have the same issue. I moisturize at night only. In the winter-I use Trucco Skin Lights #6 and #7 blended. In the hot summer I use Jane Iredale Golden Glow mineral powder. u have to lightly layer but before u reapply use rice paper to blot excess oil first.

Mari here recs Skinn Orchid Gel as a primer for oily skin. Available online or sometimes @ eBay. Just ask her!!
According to Skinn products (from LA) it was developed for oily skin to matte up makeup. I do like it because you can put it on very lightly as a base or put it on top of your makeup. It's sheer and evens out skin tone a bit. I bought the tinted gel but their lightest shade was too dark for me.

I am going to go against the grain here and say to use absolutely nothing
lol

I have had oily skin in my T-zone (also extends beyond the T-zone) for about the past 8 months or so (gotta love hormonal changes), and my makeup looks best, and lasts longer without anything under my foundation. I have tried many primers with this latest change in my skin, and they all just don't give me the same results as using nothing. I still have to blot throughout the day, but my makeup doesn't breakdown, which it does with primers or moisturizers. Have also tried a couple of mattifiers, and I still find my makeup looks best without it.

I think that in the past few years, there has been a real "push" to use something under foundation, whether it be a moisturizer or primer. This is probably great for some people, but not for me. I also have very sensitive skin.

I moisturize at night, and that is enough for my skin. Actually, have started a Retin-A routine, and I moisturize 2 nights and then Retin-A on my third.

As I said, I know this goes against the grain, but this is what works to keep my foundation looking its best.

I have very oily skin but can't bear to go without make up so, I spent a long time and a lot of money trying different primers, moisturisers and foundations.

The absolutely best product I have found to 'dry up' the oiliness and keep me shine free for a reasonable length of time also cleared my blemished skin. It is Ketsugo gel.

It works under make up just fine. I highly recommend it. x

The Ketsugo range is available online and in major UK Department stores. I haven't tried Skinn Orchid but Ketsugo really has given me the best results out of everything.
Hi Ros,

I am from the UK. From which dept stores, is the ketsugo range available?
I suffer from oily skin and want to try this product.

Thanks.
