Remington and babyliss do make good and affordable flat irons. I use Remington for almost 4 yrs and I like it so much. Does the job well!

Yes, there are many different types of remington straighteners. I was using the fat ones as I used to have long, thick hair but if you have short to medium length hair, it won't be suitable for you. You can try the slim version. I will check the model later and let you know if you're interested.

I've had a bunch of different cheap straightners, including Remington, and they all broke within a few months of buying them. I highly recomend saving up the money and buying a chi ($150). It lasts forever and leaves your hair pin straight all day. Which is saying a lot considering the fact that I have stubborn ringlet curls. Also, it is fantastic for your hair, won't dry it out or break your hair shafts. Spend the money, the Chi pays for itself.
