Hi,

I have combination skin, with an oily t-zone. I've been getting random pimples on my forehead and cheek, so I decided to start going back to the spa to get facials again. My facialist recommended some products for me (Phytomer) to use on my face daily. After using for a few weeks, I noticed more pimples developing around my nose area and cheeks. I told her this, and she said it's normal, and it takes a while for my skin to get used to the cleanser, toner, face cream, etc.

So I want to know if I should continue using these products, or go to a skin specialist to find the root cause? I usually have pretty clear skin, but from time to time I will develop a pimple under my skin (takes forever to go away) or clusters of little ones. Is it hormones? stress? I also use MAC makeup daily, is that the cause?

Cdngirl- well.............being acne prone myself, I CAN NOT use Mac face products. I love their lipsticks, liners, and eyeshadow, but cannot use the foundations or powders. So that could be a problem with your skin as well.

As for the product you are using, I personally have never used this, but it does take some time to see if your skin will adapt to it. As for it being hormonal...from what I have been told, hormonal acne is usually from your cheeks down. Nothing on your forehead or temples is hormone related.

Go to makeupalley.com and see what kind of reviews Phytomer has. You might be able to learn more about the product and the results others that have used it there.

I`ve been using MAC face products for 4 years now, and recently switched over to the MAC Select SPF 15 liquid foundation. What makeup brand do you use?

I checked the forum you suggested, and it had rave reviews for Phytomer. Maybe it is MAC causing my breakouts..hmmm

What's a moderately priced makeup brand for combination/oily skin that won't clog pores and cause breakouts?

I don't have any lines..I don't know if my skin is sensitive to certain chemicals.
I have fair skin, I don't want anything too heavy. I also have redness around my cheeks.

Look at the reviews for Colorescience and Youngblood. Those are the two I used when I was having acne issues. Look at makeupalley reviews and see what kind of info you can get on these. I would also look at MAC reviews, while you are there. I use Dior Pure foundation at the moment. It is covers well, a little less coverage than what you would get from MAC. In my opinion.

Hi there...I've worked with Phytomer in the past, and I found it to work best with drier skin types. They try to promote the importance of sea water, but for combo/oily skin I would just find a foamy, gel cleanser (I use Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel). Not sure if your skin therapist talked to you about exfoliating, but I think you would notice a big difference if you used a Salicylic Acid exfoliant about 3-5 times weekly. It helps cut through oil and decrease shine.
Hope that helps!

Oh hi! there you are! There are manymany brands of mineral makeup. They all have different formulas for different skin. What is yours like?

Fine lines? Stay away from Bare Minerals- it shows every pore and line
Dry? Pick one with oat flour, like Lumiere
Sensitive? Stay away from bismuth

Here's a good one:

I use Bare Minerals only when my skin is looking pretty clear as it does not give enough coverage and I still have to use separate concealer. It doesnt really accentuate my huge pores or any fine lines. The Mineral Veil is AMAZING though. Sometimes I use that to set my liquid foundation.

cdngirl, face cleansers do not work for me either, they cause more breakouts for me which was a problem i never had in my teens when i was not using any cleansers or nothing for my face. I have found something that works for me, I made a paste with honey, lemon, oatmeal and almonds. I use this religiously twice a day and my skin has really improved, no new pimples. Please note, I dont use this as a scrub, i use it as a face wash. If I have makeup that i need to remove, I just use sephora's make up remover before i use the paste. Now all i need to do is find a spot corrector to take care of my old acne scars. Also i stopped using any type of foundation except absolutely necessary, factor fx is really good

Could be ingredients in the cosmetics clashing with those in the skincare line. It can often be difficult to pinpoint the root cause. Kinda like installing different software programs on a computer. Some will cause others not to work so well, or at all.

If it's only been a few days or a week then it could settle down soon. But if it doesn't you need to change.

Sometimes when you start using a good quality cleanser it cleanses deep and brings out rubbish from deep down and once that's out there's no more to come and from then on it keeps your skin lovely and clean.

I use to have acne prone skin..but then i try on the pharmacist medication (some sort like antibiotic) to smooth down the zip wheneve it pop up...once the acne/pimples gone, you can resume back using your normal product...it works out fine for me..
As for the foundation, i would recommend you using the BB cream instead of normal foundation as some of the foundation tends to clog our prores..
