I need some recommendations for foundations. I want something with a really good coverage because I feel like the foundation I have tried before just (feels) like it soaks into my skin so I always feel "underdressed" when I'm out with my friends. I have quite dry, pale skin and get slightly red cheeks.
Anyone had any good experiences with heavy cover foundations or have any pictures of them wearing a foundation that they would reccomend?
Thanks

Hi Zoe

Have you tried using a primer under your foundation? It seems to make it last longer and you don't need as much foundation - it fills in the pores so your makeup looks smoother than a baby's butt! There are even some green-tinted ones that tone down the redness. MakeUp Forever makes one.

As far as a good "heavy coverage" foundation, Dermablend Smooth Indulgence is one I have used. It goes on smoothly, which is nice, and is a liquid rather than a pasty cream. It looks believable, not masky, too. The colors are natural-looking.

Hope this helps you!

I recommend bare minerals! It is much healthier for your skin and allows it to breath! It is pure enough that you can sleep in your make up if you wanted to! It also covers up and unwanted marks on your body with out looking all caked on!

Mushi, if your skin is oily you might like Mineral Makeup. Have you tried any?
Thanks for replying, Fawnie. Actually, I am using Bare Minerals but it doesn't seem to work! I have read the post on the Orchid gel recommended by Mari. Maybe I will give it a try. I have tried so many oil-free products without success and wasted so much money for nothing!

Oily skin is such an issue for me. I always take time to do my make-up in the morning and it all goes messy and oily by mid-day. I do not care for wearing foundations any longer!

I simply look unhealthy now with the redness on both my cheeks, large pores and age spots on top!!

Oh poor, Mushi. Don't despair ! We r in the same boat! But hopefully we will find the perfect product soon that will keep the oil and shine away!

I have a confession to make....I'm a make up virgin! When I say make up virgin I don't mean lipstick or lip gloss. I mean eye shadow, mascara, blusher, primer, foundation etc etc etc..Which begs the question...what is the point in foundation?

I'm fed up with foundations too. They just make my skin worse and oilier on top!!
Mushi -- I have very oily skin -- especially in the T-Zone -- it's been an ongoing problem for me. There are some matte moisturizers available as well as water based foundations -- which haven't worked for me. The orchid gel now comes in a tint.

I use mineral makeup after Cellex-C & Hydra B 5. If my skin is still shiny I add the orchid gel on top (never use a lot of this product). what I find is my saviour is using - sometimes several times a day - oil blotters -- they don't disturb your makeup and soak up excess oil.

go to a large Department store if there is one close by and ask a cosmetician to suggest a good oil free foundation. If you mention that you've had problems ask if the product can be returned -- often they'll give you a sample to try.

Good advice Mari. You really have to try a lot of foundations to find the right one for you. What's good for someone else may not be right for you if you each have different problems.

Maha,
The point of foundation? To look like Your Skin But Better!! (To even out your skin tone and lessen the look of large pores, dilated capillaries, oiliness or fine lines. A good foundation, along with the right moisturizer and/or primer can do this.)

Mushi,
Bare Minerals is great if you don't have large pores or fine lines to worry about. It has mica, which only magnifies them, IMO. There are millions of brands of MMU so look around and try a few of them. There is a technique to applying powder MMU in order to make it look natural and spraying or blotting with water after buffing it on takes off the shine and/or powdery look.

Good advice -- and that's exactly the technique I use with mineral products.

I've just ordered a "moisturizer-foundation" from Borba that's supposed to make your skin look natural with a porcelain finish. We'll see -- 30 day money back guarantee.

Fawnie: Thanks. I will try to spray water on my bare minerals make-up and see if that makes any difference. Won't the water smudge my foundation though?

Mari: How do you use water on your minerals make-up? I've only tried bare minerals. Any particular you girls would recommend? Thanks.

Maha: I guess you must have good skin that is why you choose not to wear make-up. Lucky u!!!

Everytime I go to buy foundation I ask the person what colour is right for me, and they all are like what you don't need foundation, and Mike's dermatologist said that I don't need it, so I don't want to put something unnecessary on my face and cause damage. If that makes sense?

Awww... you are so lucky, Maha. I don't like wearing make-up but I need to!Make-up makes my skin very oily and most of the available colours do not suit my skin tone. Every time when I go buy foundation the lady on the make-up counter always comment on my bad skin and spots!
I always have to search for a good foundation and concealer that helps cover my acne scars. But these only make my skin super sensitive and oilier! Hmmm..only minerals make up is helping me have the natural look if I may say!

But my skin still gets very oily.
