Have a fav Gym? Use a trainer?

I am about to move back to South Florida and am on the hunt for a new gym. I want to find one that I really like, rather than going for the cheapest one as I normally do.

Can you tell me if you like a particular chain and why?

Has anyone tried curves? I really want to try curves, but their advertisements seem to show 'thick madames' (picked that up from the movie Phat Girlz). I don't really want to go to a gym, that only serves one type of girl.

Also, have you tried a personal trainer? Do you think it is better than working out alone?

I used to work with a trainer at my local gym. It's definitely a great way to start so you can learn how to use the equipment properly and fine tune your routine. However, it gets to be VERY expensive and I didnt think it was worth continuing. Once I picked up the techniques, I was able to do it on my own. On the other hand, if you need motivation to workout, then a trainer is helpful if you can afford it. Its usually cheaper and more fun to workout with a friend though.
