Don't even bother with Mederma, its just a gel comprised of onion extract and they are currently facing penalties from the FDA for advertising that they a treatment for various types of scar. Two companies come to mind that put out really effective products, Dermatrix and BeauRx. Both use silicone gel sheeting which is the only treatment right now currently approved by the FDA for the treatment of scars. Dermatrix is based in Britain (I think) and I know BeauRx is US based so they may be cheaper, plus BeauRx just got FDA approved as one of the first class 1 medical devices for the treatment of scars which basically translates into "this stuff works"

Emu oil is probably your best bet. That or an expensive surgery. Sorry that is probably not what you want to hear.

I have several scars I am working on. Mederma does not work, silicone sheets are too occlusive (covering) and tend to come off. I use scarzone with good results in flattening some of my scars but I have an issue with depigmentation in a scar I have on my arm/shoulder. It is very ugly and bothers me a lot. large scars will only be made better by a scar revision unfortunately.

Do you have any cocoa butter? It's one of the oldest remedies for scarring. I used to be a Pharma Rep, and a surgeon once told me take cocoa butter and rub it along the length of the scar daily. He said he saw the best results with that versus other treatments (he was not a plastic surgeon, but a surgeon all the same). I'd go further to add some emu and lavender if you have them, and even some helichrysum essential oil.

In fact, you just reminded me that I have to make something for a friend of mine who had surgery recently on his neck, but they went in through his throat and he has a big scar right across his neck now.

I once had a pot full of boiling oil splatter in my face...it totally freaked me out thinking I'd have all these dotted scars on my face forever. I immediately applied emu oil and laveder several times that day. The next day, they were all GONE.

Everyone should keep a bottle of emu with lavender in their fridge, it is the best treatment for burns, and works best if applied immediately afterwards.
