Hey guys,

A newbie here. Just a quick question I have always wondered.
Do we really need all these lotions and potions for our face?
I have been blessed with good skin. I seldom got spots when I was younger and still very seldom get them now. I used cleanser toner and moisterizer, anti wrinkle eye cream since I was 14 years old. I exfoliated twice a week.

Recently I have deceided to give up doing all this. I now just wash my face with purified water and moisterize where is dry. I still exfolicate twice a week but no more soaps, face washes, toners etc.

I look at my brother who has very good skin also but he only has evered washed it with water or shower gel. Its very clear and not a bit dry.

I am beginning to think less is more?
Any thoughts?

Hi! Welcome!

I guess it depends on a lot of things what you choose to put on your face:

The type of skin you have (good genes helps!)
How much time and $$ you want to spend.
What type products you like (natural, DIY, cutting edge, etc)
What environmental factors there are in your life - if you are outside much of the day you NEED a sunscreen of at least SPF 30/PPD20.
What "look" you like - glamourous or natural.

Tell us what you like and we are here for you!

My thoughts..........you need more than just water to properly clean your skin.
A photostable sunscreen used daily is a must IMO. Walking to the car, driving, uv rays from windows all add up at the end of the day. Retin-a, vitamin c serum are tried and proven.

Welcome Bogartsqueen, I agree with you! My concern is more what are all the poisons we put on our face? I'm discourage when I check the labels. I remember my first line of products I bought about 30 years ago from a beautician, I was so proud having a well known product, but after a week my face bursted with pimples, like if I had acne, so I have returned the products, and she didn't believe me. As soon as I stopped to use them, my face cleared up! I never had acne before or after this experience.

For exfoliate I use a good old face cloth, yep that is a tip I heard on TV, if I recall it was on "The View" really not expensive hihihi and it works! To remove my foundation I use a liquid glycerin natural soap that I put on a face cloth and with a cotton pad I put floral water (rose water or witch hazel) it really removes the last traces of foundation. As for moisturizer, I use Vitamin E from Swiss and of course if I'm outside for more than 1/2 h I will put a non chemical sunscreen from Mexitan. I simply don't believe "miracles" in a jar.

But thanks Periwinkle to remind me of vitamin C Serum, which I did not make yet! This sounds promising.

Actually, for some ppl who don't like using anything but water to cleanse, this works:

"NCNProSkincare.com Microfiber Cleansing Cloth

Price: $12.50\t
The Microfiber Cleansing Cloth completely removes all makeup (even the long lasting lipstick that only oil removes), exfoliates like no other and doesn't disrupt the acid mantle of your skin because you only use water!! Great for all skin types. Wait until you see how clean your pores are! You have to see it to believe it - really!"

And she isn't kidding either! I've used it with just warm water and it really DOES suck all the gunk outta your pores! I use it just once a week now after cleansing to exfoliate without the use of harsh chemicals. It isn't like the other cheapo microfibre cloths - it's thick and lasts forever. This is something you really DO have to try to believe. It isn't hype.

Thanks Fawnie! You are a real source of informations. Reminds me of those clothes to remove the last streaks when you wash your mirrors or windows hihihi It should be great!
Well, it IS like those cloths, but it is waffle-weave and thicker than they are! It feels kinda "rubbery"...it's hard to describe exactly. I had a Clarisonic and got rid of it because it was tearing up my skin, but this puppy is a lot more gentle and waAAAAAAAAy cheaper! You can even use this cloth on your lips, eyelids, the ears, just everywhere! Even you could get one for your body if you wanted.

Fawnie, You got me all excited over a cloth!
More than any jars of miracles hihihi

Since NCNProSkincare.com is in England, I want to buy closer to my home so I googled Microfiber Cleansing Cloth there is one in Vancouver bluewondercloth.com

here what it says: The Skin Deep product line uses a very soft micro-fiber cloth, made from 50% polyester and 50% nylon. The structure and feel of this cloth is a velvety terry cloth material and can be used wet or dry to exfoliate and increase blood circulation of your skin.

The microfiber face cloth is excellent for overall facial cleaning. This product is especially suited to those people who are allergic or have sensitive skin.

This face cloth is also phenomenal for people who suffer from acne. Used on a daily basis, this microfiber face cloth pulls from the depth of the pores, to remove impurities and bacteria within the skin. Daily maintenance thereafter will maintain a clear complexion. Instead of purchasing overpriced acne medications that contain toxins and may be harmful to children, choose a gentle, natural, more effective way to remove dirt and residue.

This face cloth is made from super soft microfiber that has been created exclusively for skin and body washings. No soap, lotions, or other ingredients are required. Warm water will clean the skin right down to the pores. To remove make-up, you may use a mild cleanser (although it may not be necessary). Please wash gently, do not rub extensively and the effect will be a very pleasant one.

Professional estheticians are now using the Skin Deep microfiber face cloth and mitten and they indicate great results and satisfaction from their clients. This microfiber cloth is also being used dry for gently rubbing of the skin where intensified blood circulation is described and for the gentle removal of dry or dead skin (exfoliation). As mentioned before, the Skin Deep microfiber face cloths can be used DRY or WET.

Size: 9.4" x 9.8". for $9.

and also found at Skin FX in Alberta

and in Florida: The Shwameeâ„¢ Face Cloth is silky-smooth, pleasantly cool, and will remove makeup, oil and dirt from your face without soap or cleansers. It dries hard so it wonâ€2122t promote mold or bacteria growth.

Rinse after use and when itâ€2122s really gunked up just throw it in the wash to clean it up.

Compare to similar products from Aveda and Sephora priced $9 – $12.

Available in White, Shwamee™ Face Cloths are 9×9 inches and are machine washable in cool water.

Variations of this product
$ 5.99 USD - Single
$ 23.99 USD - 5-Pack

Will last for years. Aproximately 600 washings in hot, soapy water

I haven't tried any of those, mariepop, but I have seen the "terry cloth-like" ones and they aren't worth it. The waffle-weave ones are the Real Deal.

NCN is in USA, but she ships worldwide. Everything she sells is guaranteed or she will refund your money. I know this is true - I did not like the Copper Peptide products and she refunded my purchase price with no hassle. She is a pleasure to buy from.

This is how excited I am! I also found a forum on it:

This might sound silly, but can't I just use one of the microfiber cloths that I already have that I would clean household surfaces with? A brand new one of course...

Has anyone tried this? Any reason this wouldn't work? Any idea what's different about the ones for the face?

Thanks for any thoughts... Have a great evening.

Holy Grail product - Clinique Pore Minimzier Instant Perfector - this stuff makes my huge pores disappear and my skin look flawless!

Yes, I think you can use any type of microfiber cloth. A lot of people posted a couple of weeks ago and were quite happy with cloths from Dollar Tree, Target, HSN and the Q.

The only ones I've tried are the Q ones, so I really can't compare. I just like that they are soft and thick!
