I keep reading everyone talk about 'buffering' their retin-a or tazorac with moisturizers, but how exactly do you do it? Do you need a specific moisturizer? The only one I have on hand is Clinique Dramatically different.
There is a thread that I wrote called "Information on Retinoids" that has everything to do with Retin-a, tazorac, etc. how to buffer, its mechanisms, etc. This is it: http://www.skincaretalk.com/skin-lig...retinoids.html
When I first started out with Retin-A cream I mixed a tiny amount in my hand with an equal amount of Bariederm by Uriage. Any mild emollient will do to dilute the RA, such as Eucerin, as LnL suggests. Gradually decrease the amount of emollient and increase the amount of RA over the course of a month until you can tolerate the RA full strength. In this way you can buy a high % tube of RA and stretch it farther also. I would also advise using it only a couple times a week at first til you get used to it.
