I am an Asian and have been living in Miami for last few years. Because of the sun here, my face has tanned and become a couple of shades darker than rest of my body.

What are the solutions to get rid of the tan in the face? Basically I want my face to go back to the normal original color. I no more wear any sunblock (do their actually protect against getting tanned?), I tried a few but all of them caused some sort of problems, so I no more wear any sunblock and just try to avoid sun as much as I can. But since the sun is up from 6 am to 8 pm, I get exposed to sun everyday for few minutes.

Hi redred I know exactly what you mean- I step out the door and I change colour! However I do wear sunblock, And i limit my time in the sun. I do manage to spend some quality time outside in my garden though, with the help of a big old fedora hat and long sleeves. You might understand this importance if you've seen someone whose face has had a "chunk" (for lack of a better work)removed due to skin cancer. My mother is always outside -didn't care about wrinkles until she saw a specialist whom told her those "chunks" had to come out. - Now she is disfigured, not grotesquely mind you- but enough to notice. Since that happened every year I buy SPF #30 for me and my son, my mother on the other hand gets a higher one made for her because of the risk of her getting more. I hope this answers your questions about why you should wear it, Now to answer the darkening question, get a skin lightener and a loopha. I use Barielle there are lots on the market but I like this one ( got rid of my nasty old freckles!) Good Luck to you.

I agree with everybody else need a minimum sunblock of spf 30. For the last year, I have been doing peels to get my skin in good shape and to get all the tan off my face. I have used the Vi Peel from Dr. Kalil. They are starting to do peel parties in the miami area which I found is cheaper than going to his office with some free products.

Good luck if you need anything else..

What brand do you guys use for sunblock? I suppose this should have SPF30 with moisturizer, right?

I know sunblock will prevent from skin damage, but will it prevent from tanning?

I read the reviews on Amazon.com and read some other reviews and have ordered following products for getting rid of the tan and lightening the face:

1. Makari Caviar Face Lightening Cream (I would have posted the links to Amazon, but I am not able to post the links since I am new)
This one has good reviews on Amazon.com and each of the three reviews seem solid review (around 5-10 more reviews) and also good review on skintreatmentassociation. com.

2. Makari Whitening Exfoliating Soap

3. Makari Oralight Whitening Pills

What do you guys think of this?

A friend of mine who grew up in Southern CA really likes Enzymatic exfoliants like Zia's Papaya Enzyme peel or Ultimate Exfoliant. Mychelle has a line of products that use green apple extract to reduce hyper pigmentation called "Apple Brightening Line".
And, I really like Hara Sport Sunblock, moisturizes and protects.
