Kassy's C+E ferulic serum

What you need for 1oz C,E, Ferulic 15%;
- 2 glass shot glasses
- 1oz cobalt or amber dropper or pump bottle
- 1 tsp L-Ascorbic Acid
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) Vitamin E (equals 1%)
- .5% of Ferulic Acid (1 good pinch)
- 2 tsp SKB (Sea Kelp Bioferment)
- 3 + 1/2 tsp of distilled water
- 1/2 tsp of vodka (don't laugh, you need it to dissolve the FA so it's not gritty, and it also keeps the ph low enough!)

What to do;

- In first shot glass, put 1 tsp C into the 3 + 1/2 tsp of distilled water. Put on the side, stirring occasionally till FULLY dissolved (This can be anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, so have patience.)

- In 2nd shot glass put in 1/2 tsp vodka, and sprinkle the FA in and mix. (Little formulator spatulas are great for this!) When it has dissolved fully, add in the vitamin E + SKB and stir it all up well.

- When the LAA has fully dissolved in the 1st shot glass, mix the contents of both glasses together, stir very well, and carefully pour into your 1oz bottle.

Keeping it in a cool dry, dark place, or fridge will keep it potent + stable!

I hear you.
Was thinking of adding kale to my daily diet but this is so much easier and cheaper.

Lutein is recommended for eyesight too (along with kale & spinach). I prefer the capsuls.

Peri and Fawnie you guys have confused me totally, so just from the little i understand should you not take liopic acid, cause i do have small pot of the herbal tablets? Also what is ALA and ALC meant to do for anti aging?

For the cellex c serum all you need is mineral zinc, amino acid tyrosine, sodium hyaluronate, bioflavonoids! I know some people have said that cellex has dryed skin out but this was just thought obviously can do without ferulic is this may be a risk!

Thanks everyone for the help!

Lipoic acid is great to take. Especially with ALC. It is not an herb.
Best form is R-lipoic acid. I've not used this form but need to.

This talks about how ALA and ALC affect the mitochondria.

NY, between putting everything in the world on your face and taking every supplement in the store, when are you going to have time for your boyfriend?
Plus it gets very expensive! Start out slowly!

Fawnie honestly im not going out buying everything all i wanted to do is find out about this cause i already had the liopic pills, that i take with the collegan and the other bits i have, and am just wanting to find out about this, when i say il ask the girls at the health food shop i promise im not going out to the shop to buy more stuff i have enough for now but however when i finish what i have then i can change things up especially cause i thought things like the liopic acid did not come in different forms, if i dont ask questions here i feel like i will never know what is the correct thing to take, do etc!

I know you think im going totally crazy over board but honestly im not and its good you are keeping tabs on me as this is prob possible with me but im not at all! I really appreciate all the help though, would be lost without it!

I have a good cleanser now i use, i even bought some caster oil that i add with my oils and cleanser to exfoliate the skin, using vit c spf and green cream at night and then hopefully il be able to make up my own moistuizer which is what i really need as honestly my skin is dry all the time and even though i have moistuizer this is full of crap ingrendients in it and the good organic ones etc are very expensive so thought i could save cost a bit!

I appreciate the concern with this and as far as my bf we work very different hours so i have spare time on my hands when he is out and im home to be able to do everything or at least try to! However i hate cleaning though so when i dont do it he can!

Hi, I'm pretty new to this site and would love to try this DIY recipe with HA added to it.

How much would I add?

Where in the recipe would I add it?

How stable is this solution if kept in the refrigerator and when would I know if it went bad? I would test the PH prior to every use.

I'm sorry for all the questions, but I'm really excited to try this out.

Hazy,
Welcome! Hey that's great you want to start DIY! I warn you: it's addicting once you see all the nice stuff you can make way cheap!

If you want to use HA, I would use it instead of the Sea Kelp Bioferment, but it could make the pH more acidic (lower). The lower the more irritating it could be. Just keep checking the pH as you add the HA. Plus, make sure the HA is well diluted before adding it since it can suck moisture OUT of your skin instead of attracting moisture To it if it's in the wrong ratio. That's why I use the SKB instead. Too hard to figure out the HA ratio.

It will keep for about a month in the frig, but if you use it on face, neck, chest and hands you will use it up before it goes bad. Be lavish with it! It's cheap!

You would know it's gone over if the pH rises above 3.5. I don't check the pH every time I use it - only at the end of the bottle to find out how long it will last. Just for my own curiosity. You read the discussion that the pH has to be below 3.5 for the C to be absorbed by the skin, right!?

This is easier that yu think, but do get the UltraFine L-ascorbic acid if you can. The stuff I got from ThePersonalFormulator.com took forever to dissolve! My ferulic dissolved fine without the vodka to dissolve it. I didn't want to add alcohol anyway.

Let us know here how it turns out! Welcome to the zoo!

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm learning so much reading threads and posts. I wish I could order everything from one site, but it looks like the ferulic acid is out of stock on some of the sites and some don't seem to carry the sea kelp bioferment.

I'll definitely use the ultra fine L-ascorbic acid.

Does anyone know when Ferulic Acid will be back in stock? It looks like I'll have to purchase it from skinactives.

Also, has anyone had any staining/bleaching issues with this serum if it happens to get on clothing? I was thinking of putting this in a spray bottle and I wanted to make sure this would be ok.

Thanks for all the advice!

Go ahead and order it from skinactives. I've ordered from both and they are cheaper.
Nice choice going with the ultra fine C. I got some on order also.
No staining issues. I've not heard of anyone applying it via a spray bottle other than Mireckca applying her C spritzer this way. Another formulation.
I would stick to using it via drop bottle. It's easier to manage coverage that way and it might also clog your spray bottle.
Yes, Mireckca has had a problem with staining of clothing using a vitamin C body spray.
I agree, a dropper bottle is easier to control for facial use.

You can make a C+E serum while you wait for your ferulic! Go ahead - you will use it up quickly. I am very lavish with my serum and go thru a 30ml bottle every 2 weeks. By then the ferulic should be available again!

I guess everyone is making C+E+ferulic this spring. Good!

I had the same problem. I ordered things from 3 different sites and had the Canadian Customs folks on alert I am sure (I live in Toronto).

Yes - I had some staining and have not yet figured out rather it is oxidized Vitamin C or sloughed off skin, but I had an orange ring around my collar and waistband of my gym shorts. It was washed out fine for me, but a friend with more delicate clothing is having problems removing the stains. If your clothing is fragile you might want to take extra precautions. I still swear by how good it is to exfoliate your skin, not to mention the antioxidant benefits. Here is the link where we discussed this problem earlier on this site - see especially posts #28-31.
