Lies....TABOOS...secrets and COVER UPS!

Skin lightening in general seems to have a stigma attached to it , especially in the black community. I don't like using the term skin bleaching I prefer lightening.

For years, I've felt like I've been carrying some secret shame or guilt for altering my skin. I would go through great lengths to hide, cover up and not let my jars or creams to be seen by anyone.

If anyone asked if I was bleaching or why I've become so much lighter I would deny everything and always say no and act shocked that they were saying that.

I would rip the labels off of bottles that said anything like bleaching or lightening. I didn't want anyone to think I was a "bad girl" for wanting to be lighter. How silly was that????

Nowadays, I don't care. I'm not boldly advertising to the world that I lighten, but no more hiding jars, no more going the extra mile to cover up what I'm doing. If anyone finds out I'm lightening oh well it's my business.

I'm writing this thread to maybe help someone who may be ashamed due to the stigma and guilt other people may put them under. Just like plastic surgery, you should be able to do whatever you u want with your own body.

Nobody should ever judge or make you feel guilty.

Has anyone else ever had any similar experience of hiding your lightening mixes or not wanting anyone to find out?

I don't care to hide the fact that I've lightened my skin because I'm not trying to have sex with anyone who knew me before it. I'll tell a family member I got a chemical peel and a coworker that I'm using a medicated cream. I've lighted so much during these past 8 months that I'm still mentally processing my new look. I totally believe family members and friends ,who hadn't seen me in at least over a month, when they tell me that it took them a while to figure out who I am.
In addition to lightening, I changed my diet, started working out/exercising more, lost over 60lbs of weight, bought a whole new wardrobe and corrected a facial medical issue(which has increased me confidence x100). I go back and look at pictures of myself and its actually inspiring to see how productive I was even though I didn't feel that great about my image during those years. I think I'm going to post some progress pictures next month in honor of a poster here whose 9 month regime let me know that it was possible to get to this point. It'll also be my own 9 month lightening anniversary. 🥳

Oh my 60 lbs! Congratulations!
That plays a big part in lightening. When you are heavier your body has inflammation which can cause darkening!

You know how diabetics can get dark neck, dark cheeks and dark feet? Yes.

If I'm not being too nosey , could you tell me what was the main thing you used to get lighter?

Oh,yes! I was pre diabetic weighing 261lbs. My neck and buttcheeks were the worst. I lost 25lbs to 30lbs before I decided to start lightening. It only took a month and a half of consistent lightening before everyone knew I was doing something. I literally started looking over 10 years younger and was told yesterday by a 20 year old that he thought I was 15 years younger than my age.

Here are the main things I used during my first 3 months:

Acids: 50% Lactic Acid , Extra Strong Yellow Peeling Oil, Kojic acid soaps

Gels: Retin A .025% on face/neck and Retin A .1% on body below the neck.

Creams: Caro White (2 tubs), Dodo White up (2 tubs), Skin Light (1 tub) ... all were usually mixed with at least x2 Caro White Lightdrops. I started mixing in a tube of Retin A .1% during the 2nd month, though I think results were better when I layered Retin A on before the cream mix; I got lazy.

Vitamins: Lipsomal Gutathione 1000MG(x1 to x2 everyday) and Lipsomal Vitamin C capsules 1500mg+(x1 to x2 everyday)

Those are the main things. I used a lot of other stuff too but not for more than a month. There were several days when I didn't use anything because I f-kd up and burned myself with those same acids. But it was the rough scrubbing of cloths that caused most of my PIH ( KIT and washcloths). I didn't know how rough I was being to my skin, but I will never do that again. It set me back MONTHS.

Did you notice with the glutathione that it gave you white dots?
Did you notice with the glutathione that it gave you white dots?
No, it wasn't the glutathione. I've technically always had some dotted discoloration with my old skin tone, but they became a lot more noticeable/plentiful as I became lighter and continued to use those creams. My darker skin hid a lot of imperfections that I didn't realize were there until post lightening.

This is from 2 days ago at a park on a clear sunny afternoon. For the last 4 days I've been using Clear Essence + HQ to try and even everything out but I should probably drop the HQ because thats likely to be the common ingredient in these creams which causes the dots. I'm going to try Clear Essence + Retin A for a week and see if I notice even the slightest improvement. I'm not just gonna stop using creams altogether until they clear. 🤭

So you would say that hydroquinone is the main thing that made you light. Right?
HQ creams are my main lighters/ moisturizers but I think exfoliators like acid peels, kojic acid soap, and Tretinoin have been even more important towards my lightening and prevent me from redarkening whenever I go a week+ without using HQ.
I wonder about how much glutathione has done towards my lightening. I took 2000MG+ of glutathione capsules daily ,for over a month, before I started using HQ creams. Then I started taking 1500mg+ lipsomal Vitamin C a few weeks before HQ creams. 2 months after HQ creams, I started using that Supreme GlutaWhite 1,500,000MG but had to stop 2 months later because it gave me an ashy pale ghostly look. I got scared but started using it again 3 months ago. Now I daily take the lipsomal glutathione 1000mg AND the Gluta Supreme( whatever the real mg is) and a whole bunch of other skin care vitamins like MSM, magnesium, pine bark, niacinamide.

I noticed that you’re outside in this pic… what’s your sun protection regimen? Do you use sunscreen?

btw thank you for posting what you use! Looking good!

So I don’t have people over at my house. All of my immediate family knows that I lighten, so I don’t necessarily have to hide the products that I use.
I do have a nosy friend, and whenever she’s around she wants to come inside my room. I just don’t let her in 😂.

I’m a tiny bit of a product junkie; I would hate it if someone was snooping around and looking at my collection lol.
