My son used to twirl his hair when he was stressed out or nervous. Fortunately he realized after he began creating a bald spot to stop this bad habit.

It sounds as if your daughter realizes how bad she's hurting herself but something in her isn't letting her stop. As a mom I'm really sorry to hear this. Maybe you will need to consult a doctor. It's best to get help early to avoid this bad habit turning into something worse.

Good luck and please let us know how it all turns out.

Hi vrinda, self-mutilation by lip chewing is an uncommon problem, but may result in severe mutilation, infection and loss of tissue, with associated scarring. CAT.INIST.FR
Here are a couple of sites that might help you out but I would definitely consult your doctor/dentist about this habit.

my lips are dry and ugly from last one year what can i do for soft and beautiful lips.
Try exfoliating them - you can use a washcloth for this - get it wet and ring it out really good and then rub your lips. You can also use dermabrasion products (just make sure you don't ingest them). And afterwards make sure you apply a really good balm. Burts Bees has some really good ones. Even Carmex is good (with it's petroleum) as it holds in moisture.

MAIN thing is to NOT lick your lips - that dries them out even more!

how about if you find a nice tinted moisturizer for her lips, like Burts Bees or Aveda or something natural. Mabe if she is constantly putting it on her lips it will replace the lip biting. I also have bad biting habits , I bite my lips and my cuticles. I carry Burts Bees lip moisturizer and cuticle creme and put them on to try to stop myself. I sympathize.
