Its my sister in laws B'day coming up and I thought this time I will buy her cosmetics. But what brand does everyone really like?
I was thinking of buying Minerals but I heard that that is a really bad brand of make up to buy for anyone as it ruins the skin. The I thought of Estee Lauder, Too Faced and Bloom?
Has anyone tried these brands? Or can you recommend others?

who ever told you that mineral make up is bad for you skin is, sorry to say, an idiot!!!

talc is an ingrediant in most powders that clogs pores and causes break outs - and the chemicals in liquid make up irritate your skin and cause redness.

the point of mineral make up is that there is nothing chemical or toxic about it - and most mineral make ups are actually GOOD for your skin by including mineral nutrients - as well as natural sun block and some even contain vitamin e.

i use bare minerals and have for 3 years. its amazing. my skin used to be red and irritated, very dry and blotchy. when i started using bare minerals the redness went away within a month - i have fewer break outs and almost never get clogged pores on my nose (where i had TONS of problems before) ive never known anyone who uses bare minerals to dislike it.

you might spring for a cheaper mineral make up - as they are popping up all over the market. but i will always recommend bare minerals because they were the original mineral make up, and i absolutely love it. i would never use a liquid, pressed compact or talc makeup again.

I personally love the handmade products for face, skin and body. They can easily be found on eBay. These are the best as they have no Chemicals and are completely safe for anyone. Good luck. If you want some good sites write me and I will give them to you.
A dermatologist told me not to, said he had lots a clients coming to him.
I have brought her Dr Hauschka skin care kit. Too faced cosmetic and Coco Madamoiselle perfume. Mike (her brother, my husband) has brought her a pair of shoes, handbag, and bobbi brown and together we have brought her jewellery.
So fingers crossed she will like it.
its strange a dermatologist told you not to get mineral make up. did he recomend a differnt kind? my mom was given prescription mineral make up by her dermatologist BECAUSE she had skin problems that regular makeups just made worse (redness, blotchyness and very oily skin)

that sounds nice. mademoiselle is a very unique sent, smells much better on you than in the bottle. i have to say they picked a perfect name for it... its exactly how i would expect a madam to smell haha. im not a huge fan of it, but men seem to love it!

it sounds like a nice birthday to me, i bet she will love it!
Hi !
Well I agree that mineral makeup is the best. I cannot say that Bare minerals is the very best cause I didn't like it myself. there are many other mineral makeup brands that are better than bare (to my opinion). For example:
Jane Iradele, Youngblood, ColorSience, Philosophy, Glomineral, Illuminare....
I have heard very good comments about Glominerals and youngblood. Haven't tried it yet myself cause I have 15 foundations right now that I need to use!!!

I used Chanel (Pro Lamiere) and Dior and Estee and Lancome... they are all OK but I think that these days we should ALL switch to mineral makeup for the better of our skin!!! There is also a liquid mineral makeup but I find it very light as far as coverage so if you don't need a heavy coverage - go with a liquid!! they are awsome!!!!
I haven't loved Bare Minerals foundation colors. They were just OK on me. I've had great results with Jane Iredale. I think my skin has actually improved over time, using JI.
Does anyone know of a great inexpensive foundation that helps with breakouts?

Well the dermatologist is a friend of my husband and we were just generally talking about make up, I said that I wanted to buy make up for my self and he wouldn't have it lol! Said that I had very nice skin and all I really needed should I want my complexion brighter was just a vitamin C/E day mist.

When we were talking about it, he said that no matter waht make up you wear it is going to ruin something about you, whether it is your skin, or your self esteem etc.

Yeah the birthday was fantastic! Lol! When I brought her madamoiselle I stuck a little note saying "The perfect perfume for you, the madam that you are." She loved her pressies, and yeah she had a really good time.

Sorry for the late reply, I went away for several days.
lol well yeah, if you want to get into the emotional damages as well, LOL nearly anything marketed as a beauty product will do that.

my skin is fairly good which is why i use a very light mineral makeup, just to hide the occasional redness etc...

i have been interested in trying trueblood or illuminare, but im happy with bare minerals right now, and i dont have the money to experiment with new make ups right now. :/

im glad her brithday was a success!

that C/E day mist sounds nice, i will check into that! i bet my mom would like it too.

He didn't recommend a particular brand, but I use the body shop brand which is amazing! here is the link The Body Shop. (the mist that they have is the vitamin C one, and there is an entire range of Vitamin C products as well as the Vitamin E, there are other various ranges as well).
Their make up is really good as well. In all honesty I don't wear make up at all, but when I do I want to wear something that does good for my skin,so body shop make up it is. The beautician at the body shop also said that I don't need foundation, just if I wanted a lip gloss/lip stick. And also I don't have time to put make up on. I really don't know how my friends have the will to wake up dat 6am in the morning apply cake layer of make up, get to college and apply more. When I was in school the teachers catchphrase would be "Put the make up away!" it was amazing to watch though every girl in my classes at the same time get their make up bags out apply LOADS of make up to the extent that the skin couldn't breath and I was the odd one out, because I never wear make up. And yet they would look hideous, because they wouldn't apply the make up properly, and the fashion was the 'oranga-tan' look, which is BRIGHT ORANGE foundation (that doesn't match skin tone)all over the face as well as on the lips, spider eye clumpy mascara, heavy eye liner, white patchy eye shadow and finally gelled back, tight pony tail. And that was the look.

Yeah thats the art of marketing for you! Try the other brands once you finish Bare Minerals.

LMAO

oh man, those were the girls in highschool for me, in college not many girls wore a lot of makeup, if any. but i went to an art college so there were fewer self conscious people.. putting paint on your face came second to a canvas lol.

i wear VERY little - a tiny bit of eye liner, and a quick dusting of the minerals. i have also always been amazed at how people can get up so early to do so many trivial things. my sister would get up at 4am to shower, dry and style her hair, put on all her make up, and leave by 6. me, i shower at night so i dont have to dry my uber long hair every morning! hehe. i wake up as late as possible. im not a morning person.

i looked at the others prices, and for the youngblood you get less than HALF the amount of foundation for 12$ more than bare minerals. O_O i dont know if i should try it, for fear of loving it and not being able to use bare minerals again, and be forced to spend much more money than i do now on my make up LOL.

cool i will check out that site
thanks

4 IN THE MORNING!!! I really cannot do that! What time does your sister have to be at work/school/college? I also am not a morning person.
And I do the same as you, have a shower in the night for several reasons, A) Not a morning person. B) I also have really long hair which take 10 years to dry. c) there is always a fight for the bathroom in the morning. d) having a shower in the night helps me sleep better as well.

Ah, see you are lucky that you had escaped the 'oranga-tans' once you started college. My college you still find tacky looking people, I really think that if you cannot wear make up properly then don't wear it at all, or actually buy a beauty book. And what is more annoying, when I give advice on how to actually wear it properly all the girls look at me like I don't the the first thing.

I think I might treat myself to bare mineral make up, or rather get my husbands credit card and get him to treat me (sub consciously of course!).

Again apologoes for the REALLY late reply, I have have been really poorly

this was when she had to leave at 6 for work. now she has a child so, lol, her old routine was demolished LOL.

yeah there were very few beauty oriented girls at my college, and very few of them really caked on the make up like paste. - and ja, those are the same reasons i shower/bathe at night.

you know if your friend says you dont need make up you will only need the lightest dusting of foundation, and you might really like the warmth and the bare radiance. i love the bare radiance, it makes you dewy and glow!

i think the best part about make up is not feeling like you NEED it, but wearing it because you think it enhances YOU as you already are. thats part of why i love mineral make up. my skin isnt red anymore thanks to it and other skin care precautions i have taken in the past year or so, and i feel now like i can wash off my make up in front of people and not have them look at me surprised to see me iwth out it. most people look at me like *what? you were wearing it? you look just the same without it!*

i mainly use it to enhance my eyes (which are smallish, but a beautiful green so i want them to be noticed!) and cover any blemishes and enhance skin tone. most people i know, despite eye liner, dont think i wear any makeup at all. it makes me feel great to know that i wear it so well you cant even tell its on me.

no worries about late replies, im sorry you have been feeling bad! i hope you are feeling much better now.

I think what you said about the best thing about wearing Make Up is stop on!
I love that reaction when you take make up off. There was this girl called Lisa in my high school, she was one of those girls who would wear make up upon make up on her face, oneday she came to school without it and for the life of me I really couldn't recognise her, her skin was sooooo bad and really terrible and I noticed that her 'friends' had that secret smile on and also she herself noticed the looks that people were giving her and obviously she was really self conscious.
From seing what it did to her I really take care of my skin and am really grateful that I don't need it, and for the 'wow, you don't need make up' reaction when I take it off.
I can remember when my husband's reaction and I loved it!
Do you wear blackeye liner because that I read really distincts the eyes and white eye liner makes the eye appear bigger?
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to look on their website to see the product detail.
Thanks, I feel MUCH better now and look MUCH BETTER! I was knocking on deaths door, but my knight in shining armour came to look after me.

I bought the Mineral Make-up foundation and was so sad to find out that it expired 6 months after I had bought it. I hardly wear any makeup so to find out that i had spent $60 for something I used 5 times was so disappointing. As for everything else I really liking Urban Decay I love their eyeshadow colors.
you know maha, you are the second person who said that about white eye liner, but my personal experiance (and everyone i know) it seems to make the eye looks smaller. it gives you an innocent look, but it doesnt make your eyes look bigger. i use a nearly black eye liner and i use a very thin line on the inside, and a thicker line on the outside. that makes the eye appear larger and more open. i also use a brush and wet liner, never the stick kind - i feel like i have no control over it at all and it looks chunky and poorly done. (of course im a watercolor artist so brushes are easy for me) my mom recently switched to brushes as well and it took her a while to get the hang of it but she likes the results much better.

i think maybe if you wore a white eye liner, and then lined it with black it would make your eye appear larger. the problem i have with white is that it blends the eye to the rest of the face and leaves very little definition from where your eye begins and ends - which in some cases can look very neat, but for day to day not so much. when you wear makeup you are supposed to either define your lips or your eyes, but never both. i almost always do eyes, because i think they are one of my best features. so giving them definition is a big part in my makeup routine.

you might find that white works well for you, but experiment to be sure.

my favorite reaction that people give me when i take off my make up is an irritated "why do you even WEAR make up? you look the same without it" LOL

Hmm...thats annoying, I thought that Bare Minerals, lasts quite long. Urban Decay make up is quite good.
