Hi! I am new here and thankful for this site. I am almost 39 and am noticing some wrinkles around the bottom of my cheeks. I don't know if this is normal for my age but I don't have many wrinkles that I can see elsewhere. I do have fine lines under my eyes but no laugh lines or crows feet.

Right now, I am using:

Olay Regenerist - daily regenerating cleanser (evenings and mornings but don't always cleanse in morning with anything but water)

Olay Regenerist - UV defense regenerating lotion SPF 15 (use in morning before going out in sun)

Olay Regenerist - eye lifting serum (morning and/or evening)

Neutrogena Healthy Skin - anti-wrinkle night cream (nightly - only used for 2-3 nights)

Yes to Carrots - C through the night night moisturizing cream (in morning before sunscreen mixed with a Vit E oil that I break open)

And I take Vit E, Vit D3, Vit C, a multivitamin and calcium

I am desperate. I cannot stand to see these wrinkles and I am freaking out about it getting worse. I do not have a huge amount of money to spend on things like the baby Q but am willing to spend what I can to work to get rid of these wrinkles on cheeks. I have lost about 50 pounds and have more to go and am wondering if that has caused some sagging and what I can do to prevent further when I lose more.

I would like to having something to smooth out these existing lines and prevent more from coming or those getting worse. I don't think that the Healthy Skin has had time to work yet but am wondering what you all would suggest to get me going.

Thanks - I look forward to reading more.

Hello Bella -- welcome. There is lots of good information on the site so take your time to read some of the posts.

Between the age of 25-45, fine lines and the appearance of first wrinkles appear also there are early signs of sagging near the eye and some loss of elasticity. Periodically it is not unusual to have adult acne.

These issues are usually caused by your body's decrease in dermal repair, resulting in less collagen and with some people noticeable drop in skin hydration.

Your weight loss has probably contributed to the sagging in your lower cheeks.

As far as skin care -- since everyone reacts to products differently and from what I've read on posts -- it becomes a trial and error situation.

If you think the products you are using are offering your skin hydration keep using them.

Drink lots of water; exercise (some good facial exercises posted here); eat sensibly, take vitamins.

I'd suggest you take a supplement such as Biosil for your skin. Also I'm a great believer in using a topical VitC product. (There are some suggestions for "do your own Vit C serums" here too. Vit C aids in the production of collagen and if you give it time you should see some improvement.

Also exfoliate at least a couple of times a week. if you're not seeing any results you may want to try stronger products -- ones with glycolic acid, retinol or Retin A. Just keep with it and good luck.

Hi Bella!
Yes, I know exactly the lines you mean. I noticed mine too, and still do from time to time. Everything you use sounds great! Olay Regenerist gets high marks and contains some of the ingredients that many high-end products do. (Niacinamide is also in NIA24 at a much higher price and is reportedly good for circulation and a host of other things.)

Losing weight is a major accomplishment! So that's the first step in caring for yourself and congrats!!!
Probably what has happened is that the skin has not caught up with the underlying tissue loss. We have to be careful of losing volume in our faces as we get older - gauntness is a cardinal sign of the ageing face.

How can we fight loss of volume? Peri, Mari, Mireckca and everyone here know exactly what I am going to say: Facial exercise and masssage! Here is the website for the program I use and like the best:

Facial Exercise:FlexEffect is an extension of Bodybuilding.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page for LouLou's before/after photos and you will see how her lower cheeks have responded to the program. Pretty amazing! She is a long-time Flexxer, so it does take commitment, but it is a great way to fight ageing!

There are several threads already going here about Facial Exercise. Also make sure your protein intake is up to par - that makes a big difference in sag too!

Welcome and I hope this is helpful to you in some way!!!

Thanks for all the information. Can anyone recommend some products to try? I want to hydrate and keep wrinkles away. Do these products heal wrinkles or just make them appear less? Do they slow down the process or just cover them up? How long do I need to give the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Retinol before I can tell if it is working?

I am going to try facial exercises too. Do the websites for the products listed here tell how moisturize and massage as well or do I need to go somewhere else for that info. Is there something specific I need have for the moisturizing and massage?? Now, I have read online that (1) facial exercises cause more wrinkles and (2) there is no evidence that the muscles in the face can even be toned. Any one have comments on that?

Again, thanks. I feel very blessed to have found this website. I don't mind looking my age but I do NOT want to look older :)

HI Bella,
To answer your questions about exercises causing wrinkles and the notion that facial muscles cannot be toned by exercise, I am posting this link to address those questions. There are some amazing before/after pics of women who have been doing facial exercises for longer than I have. I think the pics speak for themselves!

Facial Exercise: Straight answers to frequently asked questions.

Not trying to talk you into anything, but I have found that this program has helped me, and I am just putting the info out there for anyone who is interested! The book goes into what products to use, not specific brands, but just the general ingredients>Retin-A or Copper Peptides, Vitamin C serum, Sunscreen. You can use any light oil you like for massage.

Hope this might help you in some way!

Hi Bella, Welcome to the site, I must say the more you freak out about lines the worse they may get the best thing to do is follow everyones advice here and just look after yourself and keep stress levels low, congrats on loosing the weight though! Good luck with it!

Speaking of Olay products do they contain a high enough concentration of peptides etc fo their creams to provide good results for smoothing out the skin and helping with lines!?

I have never tried Olay products as they are not cheap and dont want to waiste money on another failed product but I have to say i am impressed with them as i know they put a lot of research and time into all there creams! Are they effective enough products though!
