L'Oreal Has Developed Pill to Make Curly Hair Straight, and Vice Versa.

Put down that flat iron. Remove your curlers. And cancel your next Japanese hair straightening appointment. Researchers for L'Oreal in Paris claim they've gotten to the root of what causes curls. The answer, they say, lies below your scalp in the hair bulb -- which is hook-shaped for curly hair and straight for straight hair.

L'Oreal's scientists believe those bulbs could be altered using hormones, meaning popping a pill could turn curly hair straight and vice versa.

Dermatologists say it could work.

"I think this could be potentially revolutionary if it actually changed the shape of the bulb within the hair follicle," said Dr. Diane Berson, a dermatologist at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

L'Oreal said its research could also lead to a pill that changes gray hair back to its original color.

I'm also wondering how many pills it would take and
how long until you start to see results?

Oh and the cost

Let's see the last time I got a relaxer it was I think
$40 plus tip.

wow interesting article. But wouldn't you be afraid of putting pills in your body that haven't been tested for long term safety?

I don't think these pills are on the market yet.
This is the first time I have ever heard of them.

And no I wouldn't put pills that have not been tested but then again there are products such as diet pills that have not been tested and are
on the market and being sold anyway.

As long as certain products are being marketed
as cosmetic and not medical no testing, FDA testing
is required.

wow, the world is changing fast. just the other day ago i read that scientists were coming up with a pill that could also change eye and skin color also. i really dont know how i feel about it. i black with natural hair and i love my hair but i also love to sport straight hair once and a while. trouble is, i cant stand the time it takes to straighten it and how the hours of effort can be twarted by on humid/rainy day. not to mention the damage from heat appliances. but from the sounds of things, if these hormons affect the roots then its most likely gonna take months before you see a change and you may have to transition (like when you are going from relaxed to natural or from color treated to natural). it could mean a BIG CHOP and months of growing. not something i want to do.

as for the hormone thing. i bet this isnt safe at all. i dont know. it just sounds scary to me. but then again birth control pills sound scary to me. lol.

anyways, this is neat stuff. but science efforts can be better spent curing cancer and AIDS.
