Hello all,
Has anyone used Obagi?
I have used obagi. They are good products but very expensive.
which obagi products are you talking about? they have a lot
Not sure which system yet. My plastic surgeon recommended the products, but we did not discuss in depth. I wanted to do some research first. It will probabaly by the Nu-Derm. My concern is excessive flaking. How bad was it? I work full-time and don't want to look hideous.

What is the main ingredient that causes the flaking in the NuDerm?
Obagi is a great line. The Nuderm and C Serum is excellent. If you get flaking, you should use it less frequently, every other day. Ask you dr for more advice.

They hjave a new Acne system which is very reasonable cost wise called Clenziderm.

yes......... i have used the obagi products. i've used the toner, blender, cleanser, and clear. they work but it takes a while to see results. yes they are very expensive but you can buy them on ebay for like half the price.
want to add when using the obagi products. you must use retin A cream so it will have a greater effect on your skin. always use a sunblock of 30-40+ to protect your skin.
Hello all,
Has anyone used Obagi?
Yes, and it is wonderful. Buy the Action Moisturizer to go along with it because your skin will be red, dry, and flakey for about 3 weeks. This is a good thing because the System is peeling off your wrinkled skin. After 6 weeks, you will look many years younger. Your wrinkles will be almost all gone, your pores will be smaller and your skin will be firmer. I have been using the product for 5 years and I look twenty years younger than my actual age. Use the product every other day for about a week or so until your skin gets used to it. I use the Sunfader every day to lighten dark spots and it also has sunscreen protection so new spots don't form.

My plastic surgeon recommended Obagi Nu-Derm when I asked him for lazer resurfacing. It took away all of my wrinkles and firmed my sagging skin and I did not need the lazer resurfacing after using the System. I am 64 and now look 44. Buy the Action Moisturizer to use with the System and only use the System every other day until your skin gets used to it. Use the Sunfader every day to get rid of brown spots and protect your skin, it has sunscreen in it. The peeling isn't that bad. You can still wear make up as long as you use a moisturizer with it. The peeling will stop in about 3 weeks and your skin will look amazing in about 6 weeks when the new skin growns in without any wrinkles.

I have heard that you aren't supposed to use Obagi for more than three months b/c of the hydroquinone. Is that true? If so, what do you recommend to use after you've stopped the Obagi?

I am on Week 7 of Obagi, Nu-Derm, and my skin looks amazing. I love this stuff.
I was going to order the starter kit for Obagi Nu-Derm until I read that the side effects are red and flaky skin, swollen capillaries to the point where they seemed ready to burst and a lot of pain and itching. Apparently this lasted for at least 3 weeks.

Can you share any side effects you have had using the system? I am a really chicken when it comes to this stuff and would be very grateful for any feedback from others before I order it.

Thanks so much,

Hi Emily,

The Obagi has retinol in it, so I got the red, flakiness and tightness. But I didn't get any swollen capillaries. I did have a couple of spidery red veins in my chin before using this but they didn't get worse (nor better). I had no pain and no itching. The flakiness goes away in a couple of days. They have a moisturizer that doesn't come as part of the kit. You should buy it. I didn't buy theirs b/c I had just bought a really expensive one from another line, and I used that. So maybe that's why. You will definitely need a good moisturizer with this. I love the way my skin is looking and feeling, but I'm starting to run out of some of the products and don't want to re-order it if I'm not supposed to continue it for too long. It's too expensive.

I'm hoping someone can answer that question, how long you can use it, or are supposed to use if. And if we are supposed to stop, what are people using after that????

ETA: The Tazorac (Retin-A) does not come with the kit either and that is another must-have!

Thank you MsFancyPants for your feedback. I am using Retin-A now so I will continue to use it with this system. I am going to order Obagi Nu-Derm tomorrow. I don't mind a little redness and flaking as I get that at times with the Retin-A but the other stuff was just too freaky.

I am hoping someone will be able to answer your question regarding length of usage as I am wondering that too now.
I used Obagi for about 6 months. After stopping, I started using a basic face wash, vit C, and Retin A. After stopping the use of Obagi you should not have any problems adjusting to other products. I also didn't have any swollen capillaries. Just red sensitive skin.

But honestly speaking I think it is a waste of money. I have gotten better results by using Vit C, RA and TCA peels from time to time.

Gymrat, I just purchased this today after seeing my esthetician. She really believed that my skin would benefit from this system so I'm in! I've got the Retin A on it's way from ADC already so I didn't buy it ($90). But I bought the rest of the system that comes in the box. My esthetician wants to do a peel on me first before starting the system. What have your results been? What did you think? Thanks for the help.

What are you trying to achieve? Skin tone, acne, acne scars, fine lines?

I used it trying to clear up some scarring and hyperpigmentation. It works. But I found doing microderms, and TCA works just as well, and with less steps. Obagi is a nice line so I am not knocking it by any means, but there are definately other ways to achieve the results you get when using Obagi and for a much cheaper price tag. Also, do not buy into the fact that once you start with Obagi you cannot stop using it. That is so not true. So if they try to tell you that......... it's

If you have bought all of your stuff already, use it. You may have great results by doing so. Everyone is different, and everyones expectations are different. Just know, if this doesn't work for you there are other options out there.

All of the above, skin tone, acne, acne scars, fine lines! Just from reading this board and doing a little research I have realized that there alternatives that are just as effective. I guess I got sold into the notion that my esthetician was going to do treatments in the office to help this along gratis. I see her on Wed for a peel before I start the Obagi. I've tried so many things over the course of my adulthood I figure what the heck?! Thanks though for the heads up. Of course they want to keep you on the program. It's expensive and the same ingredients can be bought for a lot less. But like I said I'm desperate... for now.

oh damn cherie you already purchased the obagi line? The generic one with HQ/RA from ADC costs about 3 bucks total for HQ 4% and RA 0.1% and they are of great quality and many members here can attest to that. The obagi hydroquinone is USP grade same as alldaychemists but ridiculously expensive at I think 60 dollars for 2 ounces.
