I always hear that. But my mom is always telling me that I need to eat MORE red meat, because it keeps my red blood cells healthy or something. My doctor also told me a few years ago that I might have a slight iron deficiency, so I should try eating more red meat.

I don't want to be unhealthy, but how do you get your iron if you stay away from red meat??

YOu can get your iron from leafy greens, broccoli, almonds. Red meat in moderation (like one to three times a MONTH) isn't the most horrible thing for you (in my opinion).

But more than that is really challenging your body in serious ways. It might not seem so serious now if you're young. But it is never too early to start healthier eating habits. Red meat is NOT GOOD for you - I don't care what anyone says! But everything is okay in moderation. Refined sugars are worse for you.

Look into other foods that will provide you with iron. The energy bar I just ate, "Organic Food Bar" is 100% raw fruit (vegan) and provided me with 10% of my daily intake of iron so far... no red meat there! Your mom and doctor may be still (if you don't mind me saying) subscribing to old fashioned ideas about nutrition.

Hi there I have been a " vegi " for 5 years now. I eat plenty of leafy greens and brocolii every day and take cod liver oil every day. I have soya meat substitue and soya milk. I exercise every day even if its just a walk. I am fit and health. Why do you need red meat ? Meat must have been avery rare treat in prehistoric times not an every day necessity. I am a 53 year old woman and I have never felt fitter. I do not suffer from stress and anger,or sluggish bowel movements. A friend of mind recently suffered from bowel cancer. His intestine was taken away. It was packed with rotting red meat.

Dragon Lilly...I've had those same organic food bars!! Yellow and green wrapper right?!? I'm amazed by how healthy they are, but I don't usually eat them cause I don't like the taste :/

But anyway, thanks everyone for the info. I'd feel much healther stocking up on leafy greens and nuts than red meat.
