Hello,

I am a redhead with moderate acne. My skin is normally pale with a slight red hue. Unfortunately, I need to use topical acne medication to keep the acne under control. While the medicine (I use benzyl peroxide and a gentle cleanser) is extremely effective, it leaves me with a persistent red hue. If I quit using the topical medicine, I break out. Does anyone have advice? I have tried retinols and other topical medicine, but it all has the same reddening effect. Oral antibiotics don't seem to help, and I am not ready to do a cycle of accutane.

Thanks

Hi Redhead! Well it's great you found something that works for your spots, but the redness isn't what yu need, is it! You want that porcelain skin that redheads are famous for!!

Some people use a prescription cream called Finacea with good success. It helps acne & ageing skin and doesn't cause the redness that some creams, like Benzoyl Peroxide do.

Also Buckthorn Seed Oil is something that ppl recommend to get rid of redness. www.gardenofwisdom.com has it. I have ordered from them and they are reputable and honest.

Also, you could try a primer that has a green tint. Green cancels out red. MakeUp Forever and Smashbox make some.

Hope this helps you and let us know if anything works!! Good luck!!!

I've used the green makeup primer that fawnie refers to and it does remove the red tint. But I'm thinking that perhaps some sort of calming cream might work for you. Aloette cosmetics do have a redness reduction cream that removes redness from your face. Also a mild cream such as rosaderme that is used for rosasea. I've used both - they are quite effective. I hope you find something that works for you.

Hi Redhead,

I'm also a redhead with light skin and freckles. The only thing, I do with my skin is wash it once a day (in shower ONLY!) and use a Dead Sea Salt soap, with all natural ingredients, like Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter and Vitamin E. Remember, you don't want to wash your face more than 2 times a day, you want to keep your natural oils too...hehe I've found that the Dead Sea Salt soap is the best bar for my skin. I usually avoid the sun, because I burn fast. Hope this helps...
