Stupid Skin Care Mistakes

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done with your skin?

I have a few.

1. After reading on msn health five or six years back about not needing to using moisturiser at night. I didn't and I used 5% BP. I woke up and my face was burned.

2. Using proactive and burning my face.

3. Using a peel-off aha mask right after microdermabrasion. That was painful. lol

and 4. Going to sleep sometimes when I was really tired without washing my face.

i was guilty of #4 last night ... I was not feeling well and very cold. Didn't want to get up from the covers...I haven't done that in months and months. I might be getting a little cocky with still no major break outs from Baby Quasar system.
Man, I really gotta pick one of those up soon. My skin is holding up extremely well, very clear, but I want it for insurance. Just in case.

Humm...I've got a facial coming up at the end of the month. I wonder if my aesthetician will notice my improved skin quality.
Is there a change that has caused improvement?
I really think it's the consistent two facial washes a day with exfoliant twice a day. It's a light exfoliant but much better than the good ol' weekly scrub downs that leave your face red and raw.
I'm sure she'll be proud ... or disappointed that she won't be seeing you as often ...

Stupid skin mistakes -- when I was a teenager I read that carrot juice prevented freckles. So I pureed some carrots and and put the mixture on my face. I rubbed off the excess, didn't look in the mirror then noticed when I went out everyone was looking at me. Well, my skin was a wonderful colour of orange-beige, the rest of me was pinky white. I ran all the way home and scrubbed my face until it was beet red. My last attempt at making home remedies.

Awww... I bet you looked really interesting
. When I was a teenager I was into using yogurt masks for my hair. Of course my mother would never let me put yogurt in my hair (it was a waste of food) so I couldn't use plain yogurt as the directions called for. I had to sneak and use the Crowley blueberry cups from the fridge. Even after several washes, I still had blueberries stuck in my hair. They probably looked like cockroaches to my fellow high school students.

My best friend (who is also milky white - she's Finnish) actually uses carrot oil after she washes her face as a moisturizer in winter. It looks like self-tanning lotion and can be blotchy some days but most days it looks like she is glowing.

another current stupid mistake:
Since I joined this site I've been looking at my skin more critically and I notice that the left side of my face is in better condition than the right side. Why? Well everything that goes on my face is put on left to right -- so as I get to the right side I have less product. I don't have any lines around my left eye, my right eye has. (I know what the solution is, I just never thought I was so S-T-U-P-I-D!
when I was younger, I tried using my sister's acne medication on my face thinking it would make my face clear overnight if I applied it in large amounts. So the next day I woke up with my skin completely red and peeling. I couldn't even open my mouth all the way because it hurt so much. I was lucky enough that my mom had some sympathy for me and didn't make me go to school for 2 days until my face healed.

I bet i do the same thing - I go left to right too. And I have less product when I get to the right side. I can't see a difference yet but thanks for bringing it to my attention.
One word: Proactiv!!!!!!

Also using my blackhead remover...almost every single time I use it, I regret it. Why do they even make those things??
I don't have that problem because I put the product one of my hands then rub my hands together to distribute the product and then use both hands at the same time to use the product. As I have said before I can't do the three drop thing either. I just globs. Hahaha.
i'm always guilty of no. 4

but this is my worst:

i had a chickenpox when i was younger and i put calamine lotion all on my cheek and nose area because i had some there and it was really itchy. it burned my skin and i have very large and open pores on those areas. but the other areas of my face have small pores. now, it's impossible to make them small again.

another stupid thing i did:

i used pore strips on my nose before. i had blackheads on my nose but they were barely noticeable. after i used up the entire box of strips, i noticed that i'm having more blackheads and worse, they're very noticeable now.
I have:

Slept on an abrasive cotton pillow on one side of my face (wrinkle city!!!)
Smoked for 10 months :-( on the gum though :)
and of course I have done #4 COUNTLESS of times
Scrubbing my face every day for a week thinking it will clear my breakouts, actually made it much worse, and irritated my already sensitive skin....

are you right handed? this might sound stupid but if you hold your phone on the right side of your face, it can cause breakouts because your phone is loaded with germs and bacteria!
Phones are really yucky especially if they're used by a lot of different people. At home I use bacterial wipes on the "public" phone in the *******- as well as on the counter, taps and mostly used handles. I use a cell phone when I'm out. No, it is the way I apply product -- (Freddy how do you know I use 3 drops). I realized some breakouts were caused by a pair of glasses I had -- the bridge of my nose and the sides of my face -- allergy to nickel. So now I either buy rimless glasses, plastic or 14k gold.
Ummm, smoked for three years (argh!!!!), countless #4s, and tons of all night party extravaganzas with little regard for my poor skin!!
I must have really good genetics, because considering how badly I have cared for it, it still looks pretty good!!
